All the people that say the location makes no sense, and they didn’t know what was going on, need to read this review. To truly be pleased this movie, you have to be educated on dim and white musicals, poetry, and greek mythology.
First of all I will define the origins of the word “Xanadu”.

In 1797 there was a poet named Samuel Coleridge who lived by himself. He was asleep, after taking a dose of Opium and washing it down with alcohol. In his dreams appeared a splendid woman, (he later called her a muse) reciting a stunning poem. Alas, a knock at the door from a friend broke him out of his dream, and he rushed to his table to write down what he could remember. The result was a poem titled “Kubla Khan”
In the poem, there is a graceful position called XANADU, where there is eternal cherish and happiness. The word has sense been adopted to mean “heaven”.
The movie is based on this poem. When Kira appears to a bewildered Gene Kelly, and tells him to call his unusual club XANADU, and together they recite the first lines of the poem KUBLA KHAN.
Now the reason Gene Kelly is in this film is because Kira has appeared in his life in the 1940’s. She returns to serve him out again, to inspire his dying ambitions, by bright him to launch another music club. However he will need someone young and hip to befriend him out. So Kira also inspires Sonny Malone to cease his bland painting job and spend his talents towards his dream. Therefore Kira brings the 2 men together.

Xanadu is a remake of a film titled “Down To Earth” starring Rita Hayworth. Rita also appears as a muse to inspire people to follow their dreams.
Gene kelly’s character “Danny McGuire” was actually the name of Gene’s character in the 1944 film “Covergirl”.
If you are well read on Greek Mythology, you will know there are muses who record the arts. They are called for in times of need to succor inspire an artist’s dying ambitions. Therefore the opening scene where the muses are coming out of the wall serves as a window between their world and ours.
Another capable tidbit to know about the film, Andy Gibb was thunder to be the male star, not Michael Beck. Andy apparently was in ill health at the time and couldn’t be insured by the company.
Xanadu was a film I saw as a 9 year obsolete child. I had been severely injured and could not promenade. I was hopeless and dejected. Then one night, Xanadu made its cable debut. I was carried into the living room to notice it (I couldn’t slither) . I had never seen Olivia Newton-John before, and I was mesmerized by the most extraordinary woman I had ever seen, dancing and singing through this magical fairy myth. My life had been hum drum up to that point, and the magic, glitz, animation, and music from this film made me want to find up. I was so anxious to plug and rollerskate (LOL) that I was up in no time walking around. I will forever esteem this movie and how a “muse” called Olivia inspired me to live again.
I Treasure this movie. Why talk about how unpleasant it is? Because it is VERY abominable. It’s so dreadful it’s satisfactory! Whose opinion was it to merge fading musical star Gene Kelly with 80’s pop sensation Olivia Newton John??? Throw in some ELO music and some neon special effects and you’ve got XANADU. Oh, it’s astonishing!! Roller skating, off-the-shoulder 80’s dresses, long hair, leg warmers…. This is XANADU. The storyline is negligable. You fair wait till they find to the next song! The choreography is that Kenny Ortega 80’s stuff. Peep for Matt Latanzi (Olivia’s ex) as a dancer in the background. By the time this movie gets to it’s roller-skating in the round finale, you will be rocking! (The dancers/rollers chant: “Xanadu! Xanadu!” and effect some sort of choreographed hand-jive movements! I want to learn those moves!) Devour it, y’all. Like the song says: “Now that you’re here, now that you’re reach … Xanadu!”

Being a third generation Japanese-American (Sansei), and having my parents interned in the camps, this movie has a special space in my heart. Robert Pirosh did an astounding job in getting so noteworthy information about the Japanese- American situation: the camps, the differences between the Hawaiian and State- side Japanese (Kotonks and Kanakas), the different views of the war and even using a Japanese curse word as a password! I was so impressed and happy with the results.
The movie follows the exploits of the 442, the first all-Nisei (Japanese- American) Regimental combat team in WWII. In early 1942, all the Japanese- Americans in California, Seattle, Oregon and Hawaii were uprooted from their homes and keep into camps. All the volunteers were from the 10 internment camps throughout the western states. They felt that this was the only map to present to the U. S. that they were as patriotic as anybody else, in fact most of them were American Citizens! Since they had nothing to lose, but their lives, their motto was “GO FOR BROKE!” and that’s what they did. They are today the most decorated battalion in the history of the U.S. military and proved something that they shouldn’t have to be proved, that they were Americans!
Van Johnson is old-fashioned as the “white man” foil, to indicate how the rest of the country looked at the Japanese-American, and he does a vast job. He starts off as a bigot, but as he begins to understand and respect his troops, he becomes one of them. There’s a comic scene where one of his men call him “BAKATARE”, which is a curse word halt to “Damn, humdrum….” and tells him that the soldier is being very polite, he’s bowing as he says this. This film has everything: humor, action, enormous characters and… truth!
THis movie portarayed one of the most decorrated U.S Army regiment in WWII. Despite all their hardship and racism, the Japanese American refected their heroism in combat in the Europian theaters. THere won’t be any snoozee messages in this flicks, fair the stories as the men of the 442nd told them.

I remember this show was pretty good. I liked X-Men and, though some saw this as a rip off of that franchise, it still was something different. I kind of wished they’d made them natural mutants like in the Marvel universe. But then I suppose they wouldn’t have had thier super bad villians Genomex.

I was VERY excited to learn that this show was going to be released on dvd. That was until I found out they were releasing many dvds with a few episodes and a high price to each. That sucked. But now I just learned from tvshowsondvd.com that there was a boxed set coming out. Then I came here to Amazon and found it true! Yay! Only forty bucks for this set? THAT I can handle! As soon as I have some extra cash, this set will be mine!
Not the best sci-fi show out there. But it wasn’t the worst either. Sadly this show didn’t come back for a fourth year. Maybe some other station will pick it up. Look at the shows Sci-Fi Network has picked up and made into hits. While I’m not a completely dedicated fan to this series (I didn’t see every episode and, out of the three seasons I probably saw less than 10% of them) I still would like to see it continue.

My main point is this: If you are a fan of X-Men or Fantastic Four or Avengers or Teen Titans or Justice League (or any other story where there are super powered humans and things of the like) this show is for you.
Alluring , original larger than life characters.Aderenline pumping , heartstopping action. Intruiging mysteries intermingled with drama , light hearted bantering and romance. A complex gripping plot.Brilliantly choreographed fights. Fantasy and aci-fi rolled into one with the modern world as the backdrop this series is the very epitome of creativity and ingenuity.
I am astonished how people manage to watch the monotonous ‘reality t.v shows’ that are anything but real.How those shows claim the acclaim to fame I’ll never know.Some of it is so clearlt scripted that you have to wonder if the people who watch turn a blind eye on purpose.But I digress…
As I was saying , it is beyond me how shows like that can flourish when such a brilliant series gets almost no publicity or courage.This is actually the only show in television that can rival with the grand scope of farscape. Most people think of it as an X-men spin off , but don’t be fooled by the marvel stamp of approval.This is far superior to X-men in all forms and better than most sci-fi movies made today.Beacuse unlike them , it has a great storyline to go with its special affects.
There is shalimar , the fiery ‘feral’ whose mutancy involves the physical prowess and abilities of a feline.She can leap great distances.Twist and turn with acrobatic ease and is a polished martial artists.
Then there is smart Jesse , a molecular. He can control his state going from translucent to as hard as steel in mere seconds.He can walk through walls, render bullets harmless among many things.He also acts as the computer specialist for the group.
Then there is decieving, gentle Emma.A psyonic she can manipulate and influence peoples minds.(I especially like how the show takes this ‘over used’ power and uses it in new ways unlike anything charles xavier ever used).She can project images to make her appear to eb soemone else.Make mental blocks and sense through many realms.
And then there is cocky Brennan.An elemantal , he can control and wield lightning as well as being a very good martial artists .He can get past almost any security.Break into cars , and even instantly kill anyone who gets in his way.
Led by Adam kane, a brilliant scientist in their mountain fortress sanctuary, they fight against genomex.The creators who gave them there supernatural gifts, and made outcats of them and many others.Together they must help other mutants and stop Gbriel ashlocke.A mutant who has the powers of every type of mutant.
Give this amazings series a chance.It is as great as it sounds.

This is a wonderful seller. Awesome product and the quickest speed ive seen recently. I would with out a doubt recommend this seller for future purchases.
The second volume of the “Fruits Basket” anime ended with the revelation that Hatsuharu and Momiji would soon be attending high school with the others.

So it’s not surprising that the high school hijinks ensue once these weird teenagers join the student body. And though there’s plenty of goofiness from Yuki’s fangirls and his long-estranged brother in “Fruits Baske Vol. 3 – Puddles of Memories,” it has some very bittersweet themes in many of the episodes. For a series with such a sparkly happy heroine, it’s remarkably dark.
The first day of school gets off to a rocky start, with Momiji dressing like a girl and Haru getting into a “black” bustup with the pompous class president. But then the news arrives that Akito is about to visit the school — and Tohru bumps into the mysterious head of the Sohma family. And though he’s pleasant and warm toward her, she catches a glimpse of the true, malevolent personality behind the mask.

And more members of the zodiac pop out of the woodwork — a snake slithers up Tohru’s dress, and is revealed to be the flamboyant, eccentric Ayame Sohma, Yuki’s estranged big brother, who is now trying to make amends for his past behavior. And then Haru introduces Tohru to a very bitey little tiger cub, Kisa Sohma. Kisa has been ignored and tormented by her peers until she stopped talking, and now only Tohru’s love and Yuki’s understanding can draw her out of her shell.
And in other news: Tohru contracts the flu right before a big test, Shigure sweeps his friends off to a weekend at a lake house, the gang visits the grave of Tohru’s mother, and Tohru learns of the cheerful Momiji’s tragic past. And in one hilarious episode, Yuki’s fangirls scheme to infiltrate Hanajima’s house so they can take out the “witch” Tohru. But Hana and her little brother have some surprises in store…
“Fruits Basket” has always been a series that is rather bright and sunny in its overall outlook, but the short-term stories always have some darker, sadder dimensions. In particular, the third volume delves into Yuki’s past abuse at Akito’s hands, a parent who abandoned their cursed child, and some closure to Hatori’s story of his tragic lost love. And there are hints of a dark connection between Tohru’s late mother and Kyo.
And the writers successfully transport Natsuki Takaya’s bittersweet scenes into anime, such as an adorable scene where Tohru hugs Momiji after he proclaims that he wants to believe that every memory is important, even the painful ones. Even Ayame — crazy, flamboyant, and utterly self-absorbed — gets a few poignant moments as he reflects on his own past selfishness.
But fear not — these episodes are still saturated in silliness, ranging from Kyo and Yuki’s inevitable fights (”You didn’t even know that Jason isn’t really a bear. He’s a character in a horror film.” “Yeah? So what if I didn’t? Like I’d waste my time watching some movie about a bear!”) to Shigure’s constant torture of his editor. And there are some truly adorable scenes, such as Kisa following Tohru around the house, resulting in Tohru shrieking, “I love you” and hugging the little girl. Aww.
These episodes also introduce us to the most priceless character in all of “Fruits Basket” — Ayame the crazy, flamboyant, self-absorbed, lecherous, hyperdramatic seamster. Not only is it completely surreal whenever he’s onscreen (”They may direct their desire towards ME!”), but he has his own brand of poignancy — he tries so hard to connect with Yuki, but fails so hilariously. Kisa is a little sweetie, but she’s understandably overshadowed by her older cousin.
Yuki and Kyo also experience some growth in these episodes — Yuki freezes when confronted by his former tormentor, and struggles just to be in the same room as his brother. Yet we also see him trying to be stronger despite his flaws. And Kyo’s klutzy attempts to help Tohru — including making the hated leek soup — show his growing feelings. And poor Momiji, a character even sunnier than Tohru, is revealed to have a past even more horrible than hers.
The third volume of the “Fruits Basket” anime is fun and sometimes outright loopy, but laced with tragedy and old scars for all the characters. Definitely a must-see.
