First off, it’s best to mention that this OVA is not a good way to be introduced to Saikano. Viewers will gain a great deal more if they have seen the show first.

For only two episodes, a lot more happens in this space of time than in the rest of the show. Yet this OVA relies on following events that take place early on in the show. Hence why it’s important to watch the series first.

While the series was mostly told through Shuji’s point of view, the OVA is more 3rd-person, with emphasis on new character Lieutenant Mizuki and Chise. In fact, Shuji has no major involvement at all, apart from constantly being on Chise’s mind.

This OVA is good in that it explains more. In the series, viewers don’t know really know the “how” or “why” Chise was made into the ultimate weapon. We get those answers, but once again, the “how” or “why” isn’t as important. Themes of war, being human, and love are still going strong. We see more of Chise’s internal struggle between her human self and the weapon inside, and how her feelings for Shuji affect her actions.

New character Mizuki is the perfect foil for Chise. Mizuki is fiercely dedicated to her role as both a soldier and a weapon. She is fearless, determined, stubborn, and intelligent. As the prototype of the weapon that Chise will become, viewers will learn why Mizuki’s ability never equaled or surpassed Chise, and how this makes her feel and dictates her actions. Mizuki also has connections to Tetsu, and interactions between them I felt were important because they shed some light on how Tetsu was with Chise. Oddly though, this seems to contridict how he felt about his wife, Fuyumi, who is just barely mentioned. Mizuki, while in a position to be resentful of Chise, proves to have the potential to be Chise’s friend and confidant, the best hope Chise had of having someone who understood how she was feeling. Even Shuji had a hard time grasping this at first in the series.

Mizuki is also a tragic character, as are many characters in the Saikano canon. And true to Saikano, this short piece is emotionally driven, heart-wrenching; there’s only a glimmer of a happy ending.

Overall, this OVA could easily fit into the anime series. It’s a nice compliment to it, but seeing it isn’t necessary to understand the actual show. But it’s a must for Saikano fans.

First off I will let you all know that I have not yet seen the series which this OVA is based on, but rest assured I will do so as soon as I can.

Japan is at war; with whom and for what reason is left entirely unexplained, but judging from the fact that the “enemy” speaks English, drives Abram tanks, and flies F-4’s, I’d say that it is America and her allies who are fighting Japan (again). The war, however, is not going well for Japan, not well at all. Their cities are being burned, their troops killed by the thousands in the streets, their Air Forces destroyed on the ground. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and so a special branch of the military begins work on what is simply called “the ultimate weapon.”

After all I’ve read on Saikano I very much expected the OVA which is based on it to be somewhat of a quick summery of the show from which to judge if this was something I was willing to pursue. Much to my surprise though the main characters from the show, Chise and her boyfriend either play secondary roles or are nonexistent entirely. Instead the OVA focus on Commander Mizuki, a woman who was transformed into a weapon of war after she was mortally wounded in battle. She is a prototype, not nearly as powerful as Chise, but she has one thing the little high school girl does not; the will to fight. Mizuki is a soldier who puts the well being of her nation and its people above all else. But when she starts hearing Chise’s thoughts she begins to realize what a grave injustice it was to force Chise into the military and to transform her, against her will, into a weapon of war.

The main problem I had with this short series is that at the end it was left incomplete, I guess to get people to watch the series. As a part of the series, this may be a very good companion, but as a stand alone OVA its dull and moves too quickly for the viewer to get a good sense of who these people are and what exactly is happening. Chise is clumsy and shy, and she is in love with someone we never see, but other than that who is she? I realize she’s a secondary character but there really isn’t much information on her. Mizuki, on the other hand, gets a lot more character development and her personality is well fleshed out.

But the main problem I had was the war itself. Would it really be so hard to tell us just what is going on? Why is Japan at war? And who exactly are they fighting? Nothing about the war, which is critical to the series, is explained. It’s simply there. This might have been fine if some clues were given, but the few they had were confusing at best. For instance, one “enemy” soldier, who looks Asian, speaks English yet talks about how Japans secret weapon (Chise) destroyed his home city “in like a minute.” So Japan used Chise to attack America? Or did she attack China, which is much closer. Other “enemy” soldiers look typical American and have US uniforms as well. It would have also been nice for there to have been some sorts of explanation on how hundreds of missiles could majicly come out of Chise’s back.

Also, the battles for the most part all follow the same pattern; enemy troops invade, Japan’s soldiers overwhelmed and retreat, Chise or Mizuki come to the rescue and drive off the attack with their super powers. Any questions? That’s pretty much what all the battles are like.

The music and animation were pretty good for the most part. The battle scenes had some really annoying guitar music, but for the sad moments it was nice classical violin music which really set the scene nicely. The animation on the other hand was exhalant. No complaints in that department. The character designs were well done, while the battle scenes were nothing short of awe inspiring.

Re-play value; Low.

I saw this movie in the theatre on opening night. I serene indulge in watching it. The acting in this movie is vast, and the storyline is top notch as well. I reflect the movie represents the attitudes in exiguous town America as they were. I know of many cases in trusty life that were a lot like this dwelling, but in proper life the protagonists faired worse than Kevin Bacon. I have heard a lot of poor reviews about this movie from people who spy it today. Mostly because it is a “white” film with almost no racial diversity considering the subject matter. Well, you have to scrutinize at the social and cultural context in which the film was made to originate with. I happened to live in a petite colorado town during my teen years and HELLO we only had 1 dim family in the town. That was reality, as it was in many shrimp towns. And as for the music, mind you, this was about 4 years before the forthcoming of the rudimentary forms of rap and hip hop. Micheal Jackson had more white fans than dismal, and most blacks listened to rock and roll. You cannot deem this film by unique standards and do it justice. I consider that if you retain an originate mind you will indulge in this film a astronomical deal.

I loved footloose in the 80’s and I level-headed admire it now! It is definitely a classic, along with Top Gun. This movie will always be one of the best – Kevin Bacon was extraordinary! The soundtrack is ample, too!

So in order to protect your investment and keep their shine preserved, you need to avoid few common mistakes and follow few tips while Rug Cleaning

which can increase the life of your rug.

You are hereby advised not to beat the rug as thumping can break up the woven threads resulting in the tearing of the rug backing.

Do not vacuum the fringes of the rug as vacuum cleaner will engulf the fringes into its beater bar and fringes will get untied and become curly and ropy.

You are also advised not to use rug sprays or shampoos because if they are not rinsed out thoroughly, they will catch more dust making them look dustier.

If still you have any intention to shampoo the rug, then first sweep the rug so that imbedded dirt gets slackens. Sweeping should be followed by vacuuming so that dust is removed thoroughly. This will make the rug appear cleaner and may hold up your plans of shampooing the rug.

You should also make sure that stains on the rug should be cleared as soon as they occur. On the basis of type of stains or spills, they are to be blotted or scraped. You can blot it by pressing with a dry clean towel from the outside towards the center. Repeat this action by folding the towel till the most of the moisture has been absorbed. If the milk has been scattered, then the affected part should be properly rinsed with the mild soap and water so that the residue doesn’t rot. Incase of greasy spills and sugar based drinks spills, proper cleansing and rinsing is also required with relevant cleaners.

You are also recommended to sprinkle mixture of 2 cups of cornmeal and one cup of Borax to nullify the pet smell. Leave this mixture for about an hour before vacuuming.

As rugs get dirty quite often, you can also call professional companies to do this job but this could be expensive. But with little heed, rug cleaning can be done easily at home.

carpet cleaning 1

Carpets are the house owner’s prodigy, and to keep them cleaned is the necessity. Carpet Cleaning can be done by both the conventional as well new technological advanced methods Carpet Cleaning
chemical manufacturers established the five key cleaning methods after twenty years of their research, particularly dry-cleaning and Green based chemicals.

The commercial procedures of carpet cleaning involve steam cleaning i.e. Hot Water extraction involving the utilization of detergent based solutionsSecond procedure is dry cleaning that utilizes very little moisture and relies on the dry compounds supported by the application of cleansing solutions. This process is often swift and labor intensive as compared to wet extraction systems. The next method Dry compound method requires biogradable powder and cleaning compound for cleansing carpets These compounds are spread all over the carpet and then brushed or scrubbed over it.

For the not so big areas, a small household hand brush can be utilized to clean out the filth and then it is vacuumed keeping carpet well cleaned and dry. The fourth process is Bonnet method which involves club soda and cleansing product; both are combined with each other and scattered over the carpet and small machine known as round buffer or bonnet is moved over the mixture into rotating motion. This method involves more time in drying and is not advised for deep cleaning.
Shampoos are also being generally utilized for carpet cleaning.

This system was most popular till 1970 but it soon lost its position when Encapsulation system of carpet cleaning came. The process of Encapsulation is new technology for carpet cleaning which involves crystallizing soil particles into dry residues. It’s deep cleaning compound crystals absorbs the filth before clearing it from the carpet. For this process, rotary machines, bush applicator or compression sprayer are utilized for applying solution and then vacuum cleaner is used to clear dry residue. This system increases the beauty of the carpet better.

There are number of home made procedures for Carpet Cleaning too like vacuuming, stain removing, making use of brushes, brooms etc to provide your carpets a neat, clean and long life.

The 13th Warrior is a loose adaptation of Michael Crichton’s equally loose adaptation of Beowulf. It stars Antonio Banderas, not someone you’d request to look in a Viking swordfighting movie, plus a bunch of unknown (in the US) Nordic actors. All in all, you wouldn’t request considerable out of this movie. And you’d be spoiled. It’s chock-full of colossal fight scenes, proper writing, perfectly delivered dialogue and a location that actually makes sense. It’s basically everything that unique fantasy movies lacked until the coming of the Lord of the Rings. The movie’s generally available for a extreme mark in most stores, and that’s unbiased one more reason to have it. Every fan of medieval or fantasy action/adventure movies should have a copy of this love on their shelf.

It wasn’t until I read Eaters of the Plain by Michael Crighton that I realized it was the basis for the movie the 13th Warrior. It also is a correct account. That is what is so fabulous. This movie has been a family approved for many years, and I highly recommend it.

This sort of movie has been done to death, one would judge – view at names that are listed in preceding reviews – and while Family Stone fails to provide an earthshattering recent insight into the region fragment, I contemplate it’s a sever above average.

For one thing, the family itself is only slightly disfunctional in its relationships among one another, a definite relief. For example, the blissful son is loved and current, as is his partner. There are hints that the mother may have been too clinging but, all in all, the now-adult children of Mr. and Mrs. Stone, magnificently portrayed by Diane Keaton, seem to be handling their lives with aplomb and success.

The Family Stone rolls out its disfunction when a newcomer attempts to join the family. The catalyst for this family gathering is Christmas, probably the worst of holidays for families in general because Chritmas is also the annual festival of dashed expectations, at first material and fast psychological. A scene unhurried in the movie, when Parker’s character distributes presents, demonstrates this motif beautifully.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Family Stone! Click Here

Our first hint that things will go badly is a scene where some members of the family mock the inniment-fiancee of the eldest son before she has even arrived with the son for a first-time visit. Then you search for that the husband of the only other child (of five) who is married has delayed his arrival until Christmas Day. Hmmmm…what does he know?

And badly things do go, usually in an over-the-top and frantic method saved only by the astonishing acting skill and comfortable (or appropriately wretched) ensemble work of the safe cast (besides Keaton, there’s Craig T. Nelson, Dermot Mulroney, Luke Wilson, Rachel McAdams, and Sarah Jessica Parker) . These people prefer nastiness to recent heights and I absorb if all of us hadn’t been through something similar at some point in our lives we’d jabber it was unrealistic. C’mon…judge a dinky harder, about what happened when Aunt Sally got tipsy last Thanksgiving and decided to convey your Dad what it was like being the younger, “dumber” one, all those years ago?

Parker also is particularly agreeable, portraying a buttoned-down (but fashionable) Wall-Street yuppie, at least 150-degrees different from her flighty role and Sex and the City.

I enjoyed Family Stone more than I expected to, and it made me consider about how families work (and don’t work), too. A few of the situation endings at the slay really do push credibility too far, but everything is not wrapped up in a ball of cotton candy, fair like genuine life.

OK, this film was a bit misleading in its promotion. This film is NOT a comedy. It has comedic elements but the film is a drama. The film is perfect in its execution. It is far from the cheesy Christmas films of conventional. It harkens help to films like “Home for the Holidays” with Holly Hunter (a classic in its acquire factual for both Hunter and Robert Downey Jr’s performances) . The familial angst, the liberal meeting the conservative, the desire for like, family protecting family, it’s all here. Sarah Jessica Parker shines in a very different role for her. You feel her painful shyness at dinner when she is so misunderstood in her intentions that she ends up in the car crying.

Not all aspects of the film are to be applauded but the underlying account of the “family stone” which could be the ring requested from the matriarch of the family, the last name of the family of course or the matriarch herself are wonderful. Very touching moment at the ruin, if a bit unrealistic, where they all focus on the narrate given as a gift of a pregnant Diane Keaton.

Rachel McAdams is also a lustrous portion of this truly ensemble performance. She plays the slight sister with tenacity and zigzag pleasure but hides a softer side under sarcasm. She is the perfect foil to Sarah Jessica Parker and I treasure the humor, heart and esteem shown throughout this astounding film.

I was disappointed when I viewed this disc. I’d been expecting a nice DVD copy of the A&E Biography episode on Joan of Arc aired in the mid-1990s (my TV taping is from 1994 and is fading expeditiously) . That was a British-produced film that A&E obviously bought the rights to, slapped their usual intro over, and broadcast under their “Biography” aegis. It was better assembled, more wide-ranging in its scope, more objective, and vastly more bewitching than this uninteresting modern program (copyright 1997) . “Virgin Warrior” falls into the usual contemporary American documentary formula of being static and unimaginative and more than a dinky dishonest. It relies heavily on panning over medieval (or later) illustrations — often having miniature to do with this period or the events described by the narrator — a few cheap and poorly photographed reenactors, the usual academic talking heads in paunchy pontificating mode (although to her credit Dr. Bonnie Wheeler does reach across as informed and keen), and a lot of generic travelogue footage taken of entirely different locations than what is ostensibly being discussed! I have been to many of the places in France associated with Joan’s career and I can bid when what I’m being shown is the respectable station and when it’s not, and in this program, we are very rarely shown the trusty sites Joan visited.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Biography – Joan of Arc: Virgin Warrior! Click Here

There are numerous errors of fact in the story as well, plus some puzzling mispronunciation of French names and places. But the main sin of this documentary, in my plan, is the crime of taking one of the most attractive women in history and making her legend uninteresting as dishwater. I don’t mediate the viewer will earn mighty of a characterize of this distinguished French saint from this program, and I recommend seeking out the earlier Biography film (if it is available anywhere), a different documentary altogether, or even watching some of the better and more truthful movies made about the Maid of Orleans: Ingrid Bergman’s newly restored “Joan of Arc” and Sandrine Bonnaire’s “Jeanne la Pucelle” are the most important in this respect, and even Leelee Sobieski’s “Joan of Arc” (stout length version) has its moments.

As far as I’m concerned, Joan of Arc is the most entertaining woman to ever live – or I should say young lady, since – in a travesty of justice and a striking demonstrate of cowardice on the fraction of the man she basically crowned the king of a newly restored France two years earlier – she was burned at the stake as a heretic at the age of 19. Twenty-four years later, her conviction was overturned by the Church, then in 1920 she was officially canonized; for centuries now, she has been looked upon as a national hero among the French people and a source of inspiration to innumerable admirers. Ironically, the farce of her trial provides us with grand historical documentation we would not otherwise have, and the manner in which she handled herself during her days of captivity served only to reinforce and perpetuate the fascination and admiration she continues to method worldwide. As usual, A&E Biography produced an impressive documentary of the young girl’s noteworthy life, telling her fable against a backdrop of mediaeval works of art and alongside the insightful observations of several Joan of Arc scholars. The good source of her visions and astonishing abilities will never be known, nor will the debate of those issues ever extinguish. Heretic or martyr? Witch or wise beyond her years? Sent by God or by Satan? These questions and others like them will retain Joan of Arc in the public heart and mind for as long as men and women exist on this planet.

Joan of Arc’s account is almost impossible to own. Maintain in mind that France was facing an ultimate defeat at the hands of the English as The Hundred Years’ War drew to a halt. Joan grew up in northern France, in one of only a few villages peaceful faithful to the French king (it should approach as no surprise, since we are talking about France here, that broad numbers of the population of northern France were collaborating with the enemy at this time) . Here was Joan of Arc, a teenaged female peasant, illiterate and ignorant of military strategy, leaving home at the age of 17 in response to angelic voices she had first heard four years earlier, traveling across two hundred miles of enemy territory to come the Dauphin, and within two years saving her nation from complete military defeat and restoring the crown label of France to the throne. This was the early 15th century, mind you – women, especially young girls, would never dream of cutting their hair, dressing in man’s clothing and armor, and riding off to war with an army of men, and no one really cared what a peasant plan in the first station. Somehow, though, Joan of Arc convinced the future king to give her an army, and she led her troops in battle dressed in the rotund armor of a king’s soldier. She claimed her authority came from God Himself, that He communicated with her in mysterious voices and instructed her to do all these impossible things – and she delivered what she promised. Can you imagine what the English troops based in the fortress of Orleans view when they received an ultimatum from this seventeen-year-old girl to withdraw their forces? Many of them did not live to regret their dismissal of her demands.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Biography – Joan of Arc: Virgin Warrior! Click Here

Having fulfilled her promises to build the nation and restore the French monarchy, Joan’s young life speedily took a series of dramatically tragic turns. Determined elements of the king’s court stirred up misfortune for her out of jealousy, she herself became more demanding and forceful, and eventually her military campaigns began to meet with peril rather than glowing victory over the odds. Many began to surmise that she had fallen out of favor with the Deity – or if luck and determination rather than blooming assistance had led to her early successes. Attempts to retake Paris by force, a travel the king was always reluctant to follow, were failures, and on the third such mission Joan of Arc was captured. The video gives the impression she was captured by the English, but actually she was captured by Burgundian collaborators and then sold to their English allies. She languished in prison for more than a year, defended herself nobly and admirably at her “trial,” and faced the most bad of deaths with courage and unnatural still. She did, after a solid year of imprisonment and torture, notice a confession to the carry out that her voices never came from God and that she was, in essence, a heretic, but she soon recanted these claims. There is no written describe of what took area during the three days between her “confession” and her disavowal of that confession and swift execution. Almost surely, as the video suggests, she was raped during that time, a improper enough event in its maintain good, but sickeningly appalling for someone who had dedicated her mind and body to the work of God and drew sustenance from her cherished virginity.

The video offers up a number of strong arguments for the truth of Joan of Arc’s astounding claims, but it is also careful to allow for a number of other interpretations, including the kind of psychobabble some academics delight in employing today. This is a highly worthy yet very well-balanced explore at a life of bright mystery and great historical significance.

With this lavish follow-up to Shakespeare in Love, director John Madden proves himself a worthy craftsman of literary films, and while Captain Corelli’s Mandolin may frustrate admirers of Louis de Bernieres’s densely detailed novel, it’s a tastefully old-fashioned adaptation, preserving the novel’s flavor while focusing on its love story set against the turbulence of World War II. Set on the Greek island of Cephallonia, the drama begins in 1940 with occupation by Italian troops, awkwardly allied with the Nazis and preferring hedonistic friendliness over military intimidation. That attitude is most generously embodied by Captain Corelli (Nicolas Cage), who is instantly drawn to the Greek beauty Pelagia (Penelope Cruz) despite her engagement to Mandras (Christian Bale), a resistance fighter whose absence leaves Pelagia needy for affection. Mandras’s eventual return–and the inevitable attack by German bombers and ground troops–threaten to stain this Greek-Italian romance with deeply tragic bloodshed.

Accompanied by pensive serenades from the captain’s cherished mandolin, the film charts the unlikely attraction of Corelli and Pelagia, whose wizened physician father (splendidly played by John Hurt) fears for the worst. Their love is uneasy (and Cage’s miscasting doesn’t help), but the island’s beguiling atmosphere is as seductive to them as it is to the viewer, thus making the outbreak of violence–and a climactic earthquake–jarringly traumatic. Emphasizing nobility in war and the many definitions of love, the story’s wartime context intensifies the film’s admirable depth of emotion. Faults will be found by anyone who’s looking for them, but Captain Corelli’s Mandolin remains a sensuous, richly layered film that die-hard romantics will find hard to resist. –Jeff Shannon

Since Adolf Hitler had the audacity to borrow his mustache from the most famous celebrity in the world–Charlie Chaplin–it meant Hitler was fair game for Chaplin’s comedy. (Strangely, the two men were born within four days of each other.) The Great Dictator, conceived in the late thirties but not released until 1940, when Hitler’s war was raging across Europe, is the film that skewered the tyrant. Chaplin plays both Adenoid Hynkel, the power-mad ruler of Tomania, and a humble Jewish barber suffering under the dictator’s rule. Paulette Goddard, Chaplin’s wife at the time, plays the barber’s beloved; and the rotund comedian Jack Oakie turns in a weirdly accurate burlesqu of Mussolini, as a bellowing fellow dictator named Benzino Napaloni, Dictator of Bacteria. Chaplin himself hits one of his highest moments in the amazing sequnce where he performs a dance of love with a large inflated globe of the world. Never has the hunger for world domination been more rhapsodically expressed. The slapstick is swift and sharp, but it was not enough for Chaplin. He ends the film with the barber’s six-minute speech calling for peace and prophesying a hopeful future for troubled mankind. Some critics have always felt the monologu was out of place, but the lyricism and sheer humanity of it are still stirring. This was the last appearance of Chaplin’s Little Tramp character, and not coincidentally it was his first all-talking picture. –Robert Horton
