Words cannot philosophize how grand I adore this movie, but I will try my best. “Pulp Fiction” is one of my favorites. Quentin Tarantino is a very gifted director/writer. Although I savor his directing, I must say it is his writing that really impresses me. But I will score to that later on in this review.

I assume it’s superior to say that the first time this movie was released on DVD, it was a shrimp more than disappointing. There were no special features, sound and portray was so-so; I mean, my laserdisk at least had three different trailers of the movie. So, of course, I was very inflamed to learn that this movie was being re-released in a fully loaded special edition. Re-buying the movie was well worth it, for this edition of the movie is far suitable than the other one.

The movie really consists of three different stories; not in any order. Any one of the stories could be their believe runt movies. The players are two hitmen, a boxer, the mammoth boss, the gigantic boss’ wife, a crazy gun store owner, a gimp, a cop named, Zed, a man who makes problems go away, and a tiny suitcase with “666″ for the combination. You add all this together and you catch one hell of a movie.

The acting is more than superb; including one terrific cast with some heavy hitters (Travolta, Jackson, Thurman, Willis, etc.) . Tarantino is a master when it comes to writing and directing. Especially when it comes to writing. I have never heard such clever and brutally unbiased dialogue in any other movie. I have said it before, and I will say it again; Tarantino reminds me of Raymond Carver, except with more humor.

Now, on to the special edition of this DVD. Is it better than the previous version? YES! Tons of special features, and not to forget the fact that the movie has been restored in high definition. Narrate looks very definite. And the sound is also a lot better. You can observe the movie in DTS, which is always a fine thing.

Special features…..where do I open? There’s a ton of them! It’s not even silly how great stuff is loaded on this awful boy. And every one of them is substantial. Features include a documentary, an interview with Tarantino on “The Charlie Rose Indicate,” trailers, filmographies, and many more. If you adore special features, then you will not be disappointed.

“Pulp Fiction” is a stout movie, and the modern DVD edition is outstanding in every method. If you mild have the older DVD of this movie, salvage this one now! If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out when you can! Of course, with any other movie, there is a chance you may not like this movie. That’s gorgeous, nothing nefarious with that. Don’t let hype kill your preception of the movie, fair inspect it as if it were any other movie. You like it, great; if not, well, at least you gave it a shot. Filled with gripping humor, titanic characters, outstanding dialogue, and some of the craziest surprises and twists, “Pulp Fiction” is a improbable film, and will continue to be one of my favorites.

“Pulp Fiction” is like a unusual with five chapters that was ripped apart and keep attend together with the chapters all mixed up in random order — where does it initiate and where does it waste? That said, it’s a hilarious crazy-quilt of a movie, superbly directed by Quentin Tarantino. And yes, there is a straight tale line throughout… chronologically, the true myth begins with Samuel Jackson and John Travolta on their draw to a hit ordered by their boss Ving Rhames, and ends with Bruce Willis and his pregnant girlfriend zooming out of town on a homicidal maniac’s stolen motorcycle. Each short sage in the movie is complete in itself, and yet each makes up allotment of the whole. The actors are terrific. Jackson and Travolta are colossal as the two hitmen Jules and Vince; Uma Thurman is objective upright as the boss’s wife; Bruce Willis is amusing and yet gripping as the boxer who saves the boss’s life after the boss ordered a hit on him, and Harvey Keitel steals the whole movie with his performance as the almost inhumanly efficient Wolf. Even Tarantino himself can’t resist joining the fun and plays the role of Jules’s sometime partner Jimmie, very annoyed at being roused out of bed at the crack of dawn to befriend dispose of a semi-headless corpse. There are so many priceless scenes in this film that it’s hard to select a popular. It’s a wild, crazy, mind-boggling movie that gets better and better each time you seek it.

This is amazing work. It’s so well done and this is what reality tv should really be about. It’s an unprejudiced gawk at various subjects and how society views positive situations etc.

What Morgan has done should give him some kind of award. He himself and his girlfriend showed America what it would be like (and is on a day to day basis) for people to live on minimum wage for 30 days. How there is no money for anything but essentials and even then that’s scarce. A visit to the hospital could wipe someone out for weeks. Not only does the hospital visit cost money, but time away from work means no pay.

He also got other people to trade lives for 30 day periods. A homophobic lives in satisfied San Francisco, a redneck goes to Muslim America, a mother drinks as worthy as her college daughter does. It really opens your eyes to people who are different to you, how other people live and things we choose for granted in our lives. I really recommend that everyone should discover this because there is so mighty to learn from it.

I must admit that I am by no means an advocate of reality television. In my bear conception, a lot of what we concept as reality television, I judge “crap-TV”. There seems to be no relevence or importance to any of it, besides degradation or humiliation for financial get. Now, someone has finally near along with “indicate TV” where a subject “lives the life” for 30 days. Spawned from the highly publicized, controversial documentary “Super-Size Me”, this point to takes a weekly stab at controversial material and brings it to the light of day. Morgan Spurlock, in my book, is a genius. His down to earth advance to present journalism is bright. Some of the subjects covered are living life of minimum wage, homophobia, American views of the Muslim religion, America’s obsession with Anti-Aging, Binge drinking and more. Gawk opening, repulsive and shaded commentary on where we are in our lives, but uplifting in the conception that….it makes you deem. Best of reality TV! Highly recommended!

Every natural occurrence of global warming and cooling throughout the history of Earth is explained and all the possible changes to approach man-made and natural are illuminated. All 40 Birdman cartoons, and 20 Galaxy Trio cartoons presented as complete shows. For years we’ve laughed at the way “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law” poked fun at this show. Now we can see the original Super Hero action that inspired it all.

Semi-regularly, throughout the series, you’ll see winged Super-hero Birdman gain powers from the sun’s energy, and take on F.E.A.R., a criminal organization which sometimes does its own dirty work, and sometimes employs super villains like Nitron, Dr Freezoid and Murko the Marauder.

Unique to the time (1967), they introduced a new character “Birdboy” in the later Birdman episodes, and developed him well, as he assisted Birdman in return conflicts with Birdman’s old foes like Dr Millenium and Vulturo.

The Galaxy Trio stories are a fantastic outer space sci-fi Super-hero concept. Meteor Man (an elastic enlargeable hero), Vapor Man (who can turn into various gasses, as well as fire them from his hands), and Gravity Girl (who can reduce or increase gravity) fly through space in their ship Condor 1, defeating many foes. In particular, the music used in “Space Slaves” and “Peril of the Prison Planet” will make me keen to play them again and again.

The biggest flaw in this story … is that it makes a 45-year-old man cry like a child every time I watch it. My opinions on Disney movies vary — some are good, some are almost unwatchable — but “Beauty and the Beast” is the best work the studio has ever done.

Why do I love this movie so much? I think it’s the music. In some musicals (animated or live), as soon as a song begins, the story comes to a grinding halt. (Can anyone remember one tune from “Mulan”?) But in this film, the music by Ashman and Menken advances the story marvellously. Animation and voice acting combine in a near-flawless performance, and the use of computer animation in the ballroom dance sequence was ground-breaking in its time.

As for the added features, the added song “Human Again” is a wonderful fun number. I can understand why it was left out of the original version, but its inclusion really doesn’t detract from the story (it’s another big production number like “Be Our Guest”, not really essential to the plot, but helps us get to know the supporting characters).

The “making of” features are fairly interesting; the on-disk games I can take or leave. But the film itself is still the gem, worth the purchase price all by itself; the standard by which all other Disney movies are measured.

Disney’s animated version of the classic tale, “Beauty and the Beast,” is every bit as enchanting as the “tale as old as time” that it tells, making its way into our hearts as well as motion picture history. Being the first film nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, as well as six nominations altogether, Disney proves that it has what it takes to make an animated feature enjoyable for adults and children. I remember watching the film as a small child, and now, as an adult, is hasn’t lost its luster, and everything is just as I enjoyed it before.

Through brilliant animation and song, as well as some terrific voice talents, the story of unexpected love comes to new and exciting life. Small-town girl Belle is forced to head into the woods once her father turns up missing, bringing her to a gloomy, secluded castle where she finds him and his captor, a vicious-looking beast. Of course, the beginning of the movie explains the beast’s origins: he was once a selfish prince who, after turning out an old beggar woman, was transformed, given an enchanted rose, and told “if he could learn to love another, and earn their love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time.”

This begins their rocky-turned-romantic relationship, as they begin to warm to one another. Meanwhile, the town brute, Gaston, has plans of his own, involving some sinister maneuvers involving Belle’s father in hopes that she will agree to marry him.

Many have hailed this as the best of Disney’s films, and they wouldn’t be wrong in saying so, either. It’s easy to see why the movie has become such a success: there are elements at work in this film, just as in every other Disney film, only they seem to have taken on a small degree of maturity with this film’s creation.

The animation is some of the best and most believable I’ve seen for an animated film in a long time. Most of the scenes involving solely characters is the same as most of Disney’s works, but there are scenes of pure life-like reality that have a special flare to them. The ballroom scene is one such scene: the camera angles sweep across a room filled with high-arched glass windows and a chandelier which looks as real as the words you’re reading on this page. Some nice effects go into the creation of the castle as well, especially in the end once everything returns to normal.

The is one of the most moving Disney soundtracks to come along since that of “Cinderella” and “Pinocchio.” It is clear that composers were striving to capture the feeling and influence of their previous score for “The Little Mermaid,” and they truly succeed in doing so. The songs are delightful and will have kids and adults alike smiling and singing along. The score is the perfect underlining for scenes of romance as well as tension and suspense. In case you were wondering, three of the originally written songs were nominated for Academy Awards; that should say something.

This is one of Disney’s most ambitious and successful projects, ranking alongside such cinematic achievements as the successes of “Citizen Kane” and “Gone With The Wind.” Winner of the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture, as well as its Oscar nominations, “Beauty and the Beast” is a hallmark of a time when movies were something that everyone, young and old alike, could enjoy on the same levels. This is the best picture of 1991.

I am one of those people who waits for a network show to arrive on DVD before I get into it. So I am glad the “Las Vegas” Season 2 is here. The second season of the popular NBC series Las Vegas is now available on DVD. Universal is really on a role with releasing television series to DVD shortly after the season ends and prior to the launch of the upcoming season. First we get House Season one and now Las Vegas Season Two.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Las Vegas – Season Two! Click Here

The action continued on Las Vegas during Season 2. When James Lesure and Josh Dumal get together it’s like Crocket and Tubbs 2005. The best thing about Las Vegas Season Two is that to my knowledge none of the original music was changed. In the episode “When You Got To Go, You Got To Go,” the group Duran Duran guest star. Prior to them appearing on screen the episode opens up with “Hungry Like The Wolf.” In the background during the episode you can hear snippets of their songs “Sunrise,” and “What Happens Tommorrow.” Music is important to Las Vegas so it’s good the music wasn’t changed.

James Caan is excellent in this series as are the beautiful ladies of Las Vegas Vanessa Marcil, Molly Sims, Marsha Thomason, and Nikki Cox. The episodes are dual disc as are most universal releases. I suppose this keeps costs down. Bonus features incude a Gag Reel and a featurette titled “VIP Access Only.” The individual discs are enclosed in individual keepsake cases and I like the colorful box.

Las Vegas is a definite guilty pleasure. It’s light, fun, and very entertaining to watch. If you are looking for a deep, serious show – this isn’t the one for you. It’s pure cheese most of the time and it knows it – never taking itself seriously at all which makes it all the more fun. I loved Season One, liked Season two, and am looking forward to Season Three. Season Two features some great episodes such as the season opener “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” with Danny returing from war and his trauma associated with it, to the hilarious twist in “Tainted Love” where Sam’s billionaire husband (Guest Star Dean Cain) comes back to claim his wife shocking Sam and everyone else. The crossover episode with Crossing Jordan “Two Of A Kind” and the season finale “Centennial” are also among the best episodes of the season. Season Two is also loaded with numerous musical guest stars such as The Black Eyed Peas, Snoop Dogg, Duran Duran, and Gladys Knight just to name a few. The cast has such a great chemistry even some of the more mediocre episodes are made entertaining.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Las Vegas – Season Two! Click Here

The DVD is very well done. The picture quality is amazing with all the episodes in high definition. The “UnCut and UnCensored” part comes in during the episodes where Vegas features strippers, and other risque type scenes. Basically there’s a lot of extra T&A footage. The extra footage is the only reason I gave the DVD 4 stars. Universal just can’t seem to get the right mix of special features. This DVD set features a 14 minute blooper reel from Season’s 1 and 2. It’s hysterical, I wish it had gone on for an hour. But other than that, there’s not much more to the special features. I am really hoping that when the Season 3 DVDs come out, we get a blooper reel, commentaries, AND Interviews. Other than that, the only other glaring ommission is the exclusion of the Crossing Jordan’s part of the crossover episode. But over all this set is a keeper.

Lucid, engaging, and comprehensive does not adequately describe Sir Kenneth Clark’s magnificent survey into Western Civilization. For a series over 40 years old, the audio is remastered, the transfers are remarkably clean, and the content and opinions of the host hardly seem dated. Clark effectively interweaves music, art, science and architecture into a broad sweeping portrait that defines Western thought. For those critics who find Clark’s praise for Western art either superficial or superfluous have probably been watching and listening to the typical PBS tripe directed to an audience with a junior high vocabulary with an attention span to match.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Civilisation: The Complete Series! Click Here

Clark is a splendid presenter and teacher whose enthusiasm for his work clearly shows. It’s all here, from the ancient Greeks to the modern age (well actually, circa 1969 when the series was made), while “Civilization” is a wonderful introduction to the “humanities”–something that they used to teach in college, but now supplanted by courses and programs of dubious relevance and replete with politically correct content.

If you snoozed during your mandatory art or humanities courses in college or just found them as an opportunity to catch up on some other homework during lecture, let Sir Kenneth Clark explain to you why these things still matter today and help to define our culture and our lives. For slightly more than what you would pay for one class at a local community college, you can enjoy a most superlative achievement in truly “higher education.”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Civilisation: The Complete Series! Click Here

Unlike the virtually unletterd commentators and hosts on the “History Channel” who apparently utter a profound “Wow, cool!” every time they are confronted with some architectual wonder or historical artifact, Clark’s presentation, scholarly but never “stuffy,” is a refreshing and welcome antidote.

Clark’s remarks and insight are as on target as they are illuminating–see the installment featuring Michaelangelo and the Renaissance and you will understand why. Now, if only the BBC would release Alistair Cooke’s “America” with Region 1 encoding for all of us to enjoy on this side of the pond…

If you have never seen this series before and are interested in art history, you just landed in a honey jar. Clark takes us on a 1,500 year journey through Western Civilization starting roughly at the end of the Roman Empire and ending in mid 20th century. He tells us straight out that his aim was to follow the history of Western European civilization as seen through the eyes of its artists. Why the limitation to only Western European civilization? Apparently, Lord Clark wanted to keep the series to a manageable length. The series is over 13 hours long as it is, and one can only wonder what it would have gone on to become had he included the Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Byzantine, Islamic, Asian, African and Pre-Columbian cultures. The mind boggles. With Civilisation, Clark has done an incredible job of showing us the amazing cultural legacy left by our European forebears. And at the end he reminds us that this is only a fraction of what was actually achieved. You will recognize many of these works. Others will not be so familiar. But they carry the weight of historical significance, and everyone with at least a four year college education should be aware of the general drift of Clark’s presentation. He finished this program for the BBC in 1969. It was an immediate success and you can also find the book of the same name which was a popular spinoff of the series. I recommend it also. The series came along in the midst of some of the most tumultuous scenes of civic strife of the last 50 years. Against this background, Clark laid out his thesis that Western civilization has consisted of a series of catastrophes and rebirths. He indicates that our depression over the events of the twentieth century should not lead us into abandoning the cultural legacy which has been bequeathed to us. For example, if the Black Plague of the 14th century were to strike us with the same force it did before, over a hundred million Americans would die. The Thirty Years war devastated parts of Europe even worse than World War 2. And yet, the will to survive and rebuild society was always there. It is a prescient reminder for the current generation of thoughtful people.

The third season had less episodes as well 24 compared to the 28 for seasons one and two. The show’s level of action sequences–which had always been high–reached a peak during season three which put the show on the radar for a group that protested the level of violence in the show. The result was that with middling ratings and conflict over the high level of action in the show, “The Wild Wild West” was not renewed after the fourth season.

This set comes without extras although the show looks terrific. It would have been nice to have a featurette on the show’s production. At least we get a terrific looking presentation for the show.

You’re about to experience the third season of “The Wild Wild West” which is producer Bruce Lansbury’s new and revised vision of the series: meaning gritty, rough, realistic, Sergio Leone’s western Spaguetti-like. The characters of James West and Artemus Gordon have new costumes, especially West and his trailer outfit. Some episodes take place in Mexico: “The Night of the Assassin”, “The Night of the Jack O’Diamonds”, “The Night of the Montezuma’s Hordes” and “The Night of the Headless Woman”, some are political as “The Night of the Firebrand” (guest starring Pernell Roberts), “The Night of the Legion of Death” (guest starring Kent Smith and Anthony Zerbe), “The Night of the Arrow” and “The Night of the Underground Terror”, and some are still stamped with Michael Garrison’s concept of fabulous fantasy: see “The Night of the Turncoat” (guest starring John McGiver as the excentric Elisha Calamander), “The Night of the Death Masks” (written like “The Prisoner” episode “Living in Harmony” and in which Artie guns down Jim in a ghost town called Paradox!), “The Night of the Amnesiac” (guest starring Ed Asner and Kevin Hagen and in which James West looses his memory), “The Night of the Undead” (a mixture of Vaudou and mad scientist intrigue with Hurd Hartfield) and “The Night of the Simian Terror” (with a veiled reference to Edgar A. Poe’s “The Murders in the Rue Morgue”, guest starring Richard “Voltaire” Kiel). Warning, there’s only one Dr. Loveless’ offering: “The Night Dr. Loveless Died”. One episode reaches the peak of violence for its time: “The Night of the Vipers”, guest starring Nick Adams aka Robert Conrad’s close friend and Red West.

There have been few times that I’ve sat for more than two hours, intently watching a film, screaming “I hate this movie!” as the credits begin to roll, but then realize that I don’t hate it at all. In fact, I don’t know if that has ever happened before, but last night, after the final, revolting line of Todd Solondz’s 1998 shocker Happiness, I did just that, and probably because I couldn’t bring myself to admit I liked it. It’s a movie that deals with wildly perverse subject matter, contains not a truly likeable character in the whole bunch, and doesn’t even bother to show the consequences of the horrible actions for any of its transgressors. If there is a poster-child movie for complete and total amorality, Happiness is the one. But I liked it, and that scares me.

Joy (Jane Adams) has absolutely nothing in common with her name; her sister Helen (Lara Flynn Boyle) is a sultry, narcissistic author who wants the experience of being raped to make her writing authentic; other sister Trish (Cynthia Stevenson) is married to Dr. Bill Maplewood (Dylan Baker) and has three kids. Dr. Bill is a pedophile who pleasures himself to teen magazines in the backseat of his car and has dreams of murdering strangers in a park; Dr. Bill’s strangest patient, Allen (Phillip Seymour Hoffman), makes obscene phone calls and has an inventive way of pasting postcards to the wall; Allen’s neighbor, Kristina (Camryn Manheim), is in love with him but has her own disgusting little story to hide. Nearly every character has a dark side, the only truly ‘good’ one (Joy) seems to get everything wrong, and the one romance that blooms during the movie has a twinge of wrongness to it. The movie is a strung-together mosaic of perpetual sadness, the search for the remedy, and the stomach-churning causes of it all; and yet, between my gasps of shock and uneasiness, I can’t say there’s a boring moment in the film.

The most difficult character in the movie to even look at is, obviously, Dr. Maplewood. Dylan Baker has that glaring gaze that could boil cheese, and it takes on an especially creepy tone when he’s gazing longingly at his son’s baseball teammate at a little league game. But, believe it or not, Solondz injects comedy even into something as despicable as the Maplewood situation. The film’s most controversial scene, involving drugged chocolate sundaes and a tuna salad sandwich, is god-awfully wrong…but had me thinking about that great moment in Psycho when Marion Crane’s car stops as it’s sinking into the swamp and Norman Bates panics for a moment. And laughing, too. This element of the plot angered many people in 1998 and is still something to wrestle to this day; why make Maplewood a three-dimensional man with real emotions when all he is is a predatory pederast? Because it wouldn’t be interesting, it wouldn’t be watchable, if he wasn’t. Take a climactic scene in the film, that must deal with the truths of Maplewood’s actions: Solondz creates a scene that is brutally honest and deeply disturbing, but still grounded in the poignancy of a father-son discussion.

I found myself alternating between pure puzzlement and a desire to turn the movie off in its first, love-it-or-leave-it act. But Solondz is in such control of his connecting plot strands that he makes the links quickly, moves in and out of them with ease, and even allows for unexpectedly moving moments to occur. The great subplot of the film is with Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Camryn Manheim. In some ways, it sums up the entire theme of the film, while having all of Happiness’ strengths and weaknesses. Solondz gives us a great scene where the two come together, dancing to a pop song in a bar, and it’s a brief moment of euphoria and sweetness despite the depravity that surrounds and underscores it. Of course, for some viewers, the hidden lives of even Allen and Kristina may be too strange to merit caring about. I struggled with it, too.

Solondz made a very good film a few years ago, Storytelling (rent it), that contains similarly risque subject matter but ends up being too facile in the resolutions of the two vignettes that comprise the film. His breakthrough movie, Welcome to the Dollhouse, came before Happiness, and takes a similarly piercing look at real life but is bogged down too much in its deadpan humor and relentless punishment of its protagonist. Happiness straddles the shortcomings of both of those films, neither offering a simple resolution to its problems or being too strange to the point where unrealism sets in. It is real, it is complex, and it’s also deeply disturbing and maybe morally offensive. I’m also known for not really caring about the morality of a movie, so maybe that’s why I was never bored or too offended at any time.

The best line in Happiness comes toward the very end, when the sisters and their parents are sitting around talking about a grisly New Jersey murder, involving dismemberment and plastic baggies, that occurred in the apartment building of Flynn Boyle’s Helen. “Everyone uses baggies; that’s why we can relate to this crime,” she says. Happiness is one of those twisted American suburbia flicks that contains things that happen every day, probably closer to us than we expect. That’s why I could relate to this movie. I don’t expect you to; in fact, I don’t blame you if you hate it with a passion or don’t get past the first ten minutes. Things will happen that will disgust you, revolt you, and disturb you. There is no reason why anyone should like this movie or why it should ‘work.’ But I was entertained in some sick and twisted way, even while my jaw stayed glued to the floor. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, and extensively…but I dare you to see it. A-

Definitely one of the best movies of the decade, and one of the best independent films of all time. I saw this movie in the theater because i was already of fan of the director, Todd Solondz, after seeing and loving his first film, Welcome to the Dollhouse. This film goes where no film has dared even think about going in the past, completely redefing the term “black comedy”. The movie intertwines several loosely related plotlines(a la Pulp Fiction), all involving outwardly banal suburban characters whose private lives are actually teeming with depravity and tragedy, ineptitude and self-loathing. The film is at its most audacious when following the trials and tribulations of an average suburban psychologist who also just happens to be a homosexual pedophile. In this particular storyline, Solondz takes this repellent figure, this Grendel of modern society, and exposes his life in such tragically comic and crushingly depressing tones as to make you reevaluate your initial preconceived notions of the John Wayne Gaycie’s of the world. This film has the singular distinction of containing the only scene in which i felt the urge to laugh, vomit, and cry simultaneously. If you are a prude or a moralizing, close-minded fundamentalist of one type or another, you will probably find this movie “filthy” and “morally bankrupt”. If so, then you, of course, are the type of person who needs to see this movie most of all. Anyone else with an open mind and a taste for shocking, thought provoking media of any kind will enjoy this unsentimental look at the by-products of America’s Suburban Utopia.
