“RahXephon- Complete collection” repackages the 2003 7 disc TV series from ADV Films into a space saving thinpak collection. The orginal cover art is used but buyers wont get the dvd character booklets that accompanied the original release nor is the motion picture included. The series does come in a stylish collectors box with new artwork. If you missed RahXephon the first time don’t hesitate to pick up this amazing series.

RahXephon was at first dismissed by some as a clone of Neon Genesis Evangelion with it the similar idea of a protagonist (in this case Ayato Kamina) reluctant to use the giant mecha RahXephon to fight otherworldly invaders. Those who watched the show realised thats where the similarities end.

RahXephon is the story of high schooler Ayato Kamina, a ordinary guy living in Tokyo, the last city on Earth that didnt fall to invaders the MU. The citizens of Tokyo are constantly aware that invasion could happen at any point and in the first episode it does. During the attack Ayato is seperated from his friends and meets up with another classmate Reika who takes him to an underground room where she awakens the RahXEphon and makes Ayato become one with the hulking mecha. Ayato is able to escape the city using the RahXephon where he soon learns Tokyo is actually controlled by the MU.

Over the course of the series Ayato has to unravel the truth of the world, come to grips with his own personal demons and decide how he is connected to the RahXEphon.

The series does a great job of storytelling. The first episode quickly throws many questions at the viewer and has you wondering just what is the truth in the world of RahXephon. The pacing of the story is excellent. Viewers are given just enough answers to questions to keep them satisfied while having new questions crop up. The show will keep you guessing until the end.

A phenomenal anime that has action, romance, comedy, big mecha and lots of mystery- truly something for everyone. If you haven’t seen RahXephon yet, what are you waiting for?

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Often enough this series is compared to NGE (Neon Genesis) and is blamed for following in its footsteps. In all honesty I find RahXephon extremely creative, thought provoking and well done. In its own right RahXephon stands out as possibly one of the very best “mecha” series to date, in a class and category all to itself!

As a fan of thought provoking animes (preferring seriousness over humor and calm introspective moments for the characters over highly complicated battle sequences), I was deeply disappointed with NGE and many movies in the Gundam line… was it impossible to fuse high-technology robots with an intellectual storyline? Was it impossible to bring great voice acting, great animation and design together in one series?

At first I thought I was asking a lot … that was until I caught RahXephon on G4TV.

RahXephon’s art alone is superb. The series is drawn and animated quite beautifully, almost everything on the screen is highly detailed and appropriately colored. The series comes across as extremely stunning in comparison with other mecha-type shows. In other shows the artists sacrifice detail in order to bring you quick action sequences – RahXephon doesn’t focus too much on the action sequences and instead brings you stunning visuals you’re sure to remember.

RahXephon features a creative storyline: a world in which music plays a key role in human events. Music literally shapes the world as a whole and when two races collide (Humans and Mulians); music might just be the world’s only salvation. Through themes which were heavily researched (as apparent in the Italian musical notation names of the Dolem – enemy Mu fighting units – and through the use of clever poetry to foreshadow events to come), RahXephon’s storyline is one of the most engaging storylines in a mecha-type show I’ve seen.

RahXephon is a story about uncertainty, taking risks, and exploring the nature of reality. And yet for all the major themes present, through the use of downright loveable characters (who are aesthetically pleasing as well as interesting), we see a world “suffused with sound” in all of its magnificence.

An anime great. I recommend this series to anyone with any interest in mecha combat mixed with a heavy story! Those with a good grasp on what makes a quality Japanese animation are bound to enjoy RahXephon!

As a fan boy of the 1980’s series I have no dilemma saying that this remake was a fun reveal from the initiate, but in the final season it got to its best parts. The tale focused more the development of characters and Eternia’s history and less on ideas for unusual toy designs. The episodes are fluid and well written…and then it was canceled…idiot execs >:^(

This is a must have for fans of the unusual and customary He-man universes.

No sooner does the second volume of BCI’s impeccable release of Mike Young Production’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe hit shelves does news of the third and final volume’s release advance forth. It is with a blend of excitement and sadness that we anticipate the third volume which will consist of the final 13 episodes of the program. Originally airing in 2003 on Cartoon Network, these episodes picture the entire span of the second (and unfortunately final) season.

As has been standard heavenly with this series and all of BCI’s efforts for that matter, interrogate this region to include audio and video commentaries on key episodes, a third disc filled with bonus features and a pair of collector’s art cards.

My toddler, husband, and I Cherish this DVD! It is a delight, honest like my daughter’s face everytime she sees and hears the beginning of this DVD. The scenes roam nicely into each other. The songs are a joy to listen to and the children, puppets, and park scenes are fun to spy. The puppets/main characters are cuter than the ones in the Baby Einsteins and they actually have dependable childrens’ laughs. We esteem the “Peek-a-Boo” portion. My daughter impartial beams during the entire DVD. One warning: the songs are so cute and fun to squawk that you may rep yourself singing them in your head and aloud graceful regularly! Highly recommend this DVD for any toddlers.

My 13 month weak LOVES this DVD. He started watching it around 9 months and is zigzag (even though I try to limit it to several times a week) . The music is so wonderful- it is fun to allege along and I don’t salvage tired of this like some other videos.

There is a peek-a-boo allotment that makes him laugh and squeal. But, his accepted segment is one about BALLS! There is a unbelievable song about balls and lots of different kids playing with balls. He loves it, and the DVD has a feature where you can purchase individual songs.

I highly recommend this DVD. I will say that we also have the Exploring the Beach Spirited Buddies and my son is not nearly as fervent.

THE STORY : Basically, young Rudi is the son of the best climbing guide in his village, who died tragically climbing the yet unconquered Matterhorn, or as they call it “the Citadel”. Rudi’s mother refuses to let her son climb, and he is going crazy for it if it were not for the love and understanding of Lizbeth. He strongly believes his father had discovered a secret path to the mountaintop that has so far eluded all other climbers. Rudi is always in trouble for sneaking away to climb on his own, when he is supposed to be washing dishes at the hotel. But the village is concerned over losing their reputation with the other villages, since their guides have been afraid to climb the mountain in the 16 years since the tragedy. When a famous British climber arrives with a guide from a rival village to climb the Citadel and also wants to hire local guides, Rudi and the village get their big chance at redeeming their reputation. There is a good moral lesson about thinking of others first. A very enjoyable dramatic story, it is true Disney wholesome family fare.

BEHIND THE SCENES TRIVIA: The movie was filmed entirely on location in Switzerland. Helicopters and mule trains were used to get the gear to the filming spots. Disney arranged for the actors to actually learn to climb in order to make the scenes that involved the actors more realistic. The long shots were usually filmed with doubles, and close range shots involved the real actors. In the case of the close-up shots the crew used movie magic to make the actors to appear high off the ground when they were not. James MacArthur really enjoyed the climbing and disappeared without authorization from the set in order to do some real climbing, which panicked the crew as an accident would delay filming.

Ken Annakin directed, and was regrouped with some of the cast for his next Disney Studio project, “Swiss Family Robinson”. The character of the 18 year old young man named Rudi is well played by young James MacArthur, the son of Helen Hayes. She has a cameo in the film if you look closely. James also appeared in Disney’s films “Kidnapped”, “Swiss Family Robinson”, and “The Light in the Forest”. The part of Lizbeth was played by cheery Janet Munro (who also appeared in “Darby and the Little People”, “Swiss Family Robinson”, & “The Horsemasters”); and Michael Rennie as Captain Winter. The climbing scenes are very well done and scenic.

Walt Disney took his family on vacation to Switzerland, and fell in love with the mountain and the book the story is derived from, “Banner in the Sky” by James Ramsey Ullman. In fact the author has a brief cameo as an American tourist in one scene. The book is based on a true story, and was adapted into a screenplay by Eleanore Griffin. Walt personally made the decision to turn the book into a movie, and the film held a special place in his heart, as well as his budget since this was an expensive undertaking. The mountain left such a deep impression on him that he later recreated it in 1/100th scale at Disneyland with the Matterhorn Mountain and Bobsleds attraction. The film was released in theatres on November 10, 1959 at 107 minutes in length. The episode was re-edited for release as a two episode show on the Walt Disney’s `Wonderful World of Color’ television show in 1963. It was subsequently renamed after the original book, “Banner in the Sky”. Each episode had its own title, the first being “To Conquer the Mountain”, and the 2nd being “The Killer Mountain”. It first aired on February 17, and 24, 1963. It re-aired on March 5, and 12, 1972. The theatrical edit of the film was first released on VHS in 1986 and DVD on September 7, 2004.

DVD QUALITY: Let me start off by saying that if you are looking to buy a copy to upgrade your old VHS copy of the same film, SAVE YOUR MONEY. Since they decided not to re-master the film and it has been poorly preserved, the 2004 DVD version of the film has scratches, poor sound, and bad color, and was in full screen rather than wide screen. No extras even though there are tons of footage that could have been used. I would have liked to see the trailer, footage of Walt talking about the film, and from his trip to Switzerland, the original 1955 Disney “People and Places” travelogue on Switzerland, and maybe a piece on the Matterhorn ride at Disneyland. So hold onto your VHS copy if you have one, or buy a used on here at Amazon rather than encourage Disney to keep up this butcher job on such great films.

I love this movie and was delighted to see it appear at last on DVD. That is until I watched it. I was going to comment on the picture quality of this new DVD, but someone in New York beat me to it. All I can do is agree with that individual.

I worked at the Disney Studios in the 1970’s in 16mm film distribution (just prior to the coming of home video). I distributed 16mm prints of this title. A new 16mm print struck at that time had a much better picture quality than the element used to make this current DVD transfer. The main problem is negative dirt. It’s like watching a film in a snow storm. The N.Y. reviewer also correctly observed that the color correction was uneven.

Some audiences do not notice these technical flaws. Yet those in the industry have spent decades trying to improve the quality of how to present film product. DVDs are marketed on this very point. After all, what else do studios have to offer but their inventories? If all the Hollywood studios can agree to spend millions of dollars over the years investing in the latest technology, then they must care how to present their work in the best possible light. Or not, apparently.

For over three decades, video equipment has existed that can electronically “clean up” much of the dirt and some of the scratches that show up on video from a poor original source. The best way is to strike a new interpositive from the camera original negative (the original should first be chemically “washed”). You color correct when you make the digital transfer. I have overseen this process many times during my years in the video trarnsfer business. In this way, you will create the absolute best transfer possible. Otherwise, why bother?

I must also observe that this problem exists with many new Disney DVD transfers, and from films far more recent than THIRD MAN. Unfortunately, Disney isn’t the only studio going “on the cheap.” I just saw a new DVD of MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS. I think the print/negative they used must have first been run over BY the Orient Express.

This is now almost an exact science. It also isn’t that cost prohibitive when you consider the length of time a DVD will last. Don’t you want your name on the BEST quality product? Poor workmanship shows. I must say that this transfer does not show the pride the Disney people put into their work when I was at the Studio (in the pre-Eisner days).

On the plus side, the soundtrack is fairly clean, although here, too, great advances have been made in “cleaning up” and fully restoring audio elements. Just having THIRD MAN ON THE MOUNTAIN available on video again isn’t enough, especially when you don’t care (and here I’ll borrow a tag line) “to send the very best.”

One thing you could never accuse Yes of is restraint. The same band that gave us double albums consisting of four song titles has now released their `authorized’ biography, and it is almost as overwhelmingly self-indulgent as “Tales of Topographic Oceans” – but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I loved Yes in the `70s. They were such a unique animal that they stood apart from virtually anything else on the scene at that time, and to be sure, no other band ever really approached their combination of intelligence and overkill. The Roger Dean-designed cover for this package promises something extraordinary, as if the old band had somehow turned back the time machine to the days of their classic era. Of course, that would be impossible, but there are elements of this collection that revive old sentiments for the band most responsible for creating `progressive rock’.

Except for background and severely edited bits, the first disk contains virtually no music at all. Instead, the disk rambles on for three and one-half hours of interviews with virtually every bandmember. You could play “The Yes Album” six times in the amount of time it takes to view the interviews on disk one. “Gone With the Wind” is concise in comparison, but the interviews are nonetheless fascinating. Once you get past the visual image of how each member has aged (Chris Squire was almost unrecognizable to me), it becomes apparent that 200+ minutes of interviews is appropriate for a band known for its bombast and sprawling vision. Each member is extraordinarily honest and candid in their recollections, and amusing as well. The video is edited extremely well, switching from person to person with a continuity that allows us to see various aspects of the same story. It is wonderful to see each member speak with candor, and fans will get to know each bandmember in ways that were previously impossible.

As if that weren’t enough, a second disk contains an additional hour or so of edited interview footage, which is complete overkill. Comparatively, the music content is paltry, with three vintage videos (that are hilarious in retrospect) and some low-tech, extraneous rehearsal footage dating from 1996. In short, the entire package revolves around whether or not you care to hear the bandmembers recount the convoluted story of one of rock and roll’s most tumultuous bands. It is long (and long-winded), but it is also a wondrous story. B+ Tom Ryan

Although I only gave this four stars , this is one of the best yes documentaries since Yesyears. This goes to their complete history and leaves off where Yesyears ended in 1991. I was so glad to see Peter Banks , Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes on this one as well as the other classic members of Yes. But it was sad to not see Tony Kaye and only one footage of Trevor Rabin about his leaving the band in 95. The real interesting interview on the 2nd disc is the bonus one of Peter Banks , who was supposed to be a sit in guest on the “Union” tour until he claims that Steve Howe said he could not join. It happened to be a a concert at the L.A. Forum that I had attended being a die hard Yes fan. Of course like the Moody Blues dvd, There are only Three full music videos. I was not surprised by this , nor was I surprised that one on the videos was Wonderous Stories. But I was pleased that that with the other two being Tempus Fugit , and the full length wersion of Owner of a lonely Heart , I would had hope that the black and white footage from the beat club in 1969 , and the old footage of Yours is no disgrace was included. In spite of this I do think that this is a great successor to Yesyears and is a must for true Yes fans.

These are four enjoyable movies and they sight astronomical on DVD. “Kiss Me Kate” has a titanic extra with scenes using the 3-D finish. It is moderately priced which is a plus. They are also contained in a standard size DVD case. It has only two discs with a movie on each side Well worth adding to your collection.

I have all of these on individual DVDs but understanding the notion of the musical collection was tremendous so I purchased them all for my son’s family.

I’m glad that they finally released Hi-5 as a season, but this DVD set appears to have been thrown together in a few hours. There’s no episode list, and some menu options didn’t work. You have to go through all 3 discs yourself to find out what’s in it. On the other hand, my daughter LOVES Hi-5, and I can put in a disc, choose Play All, and not have to futz with it. It also comes with some stickers which I’m sure my daughter will enjoy sticking in odd places all over the house.

And this unusual vampire anime gets off to a solid start in the first volume — there’s plenty of gory, taut action scenes, as well as some mystery and slow exposition. While it’s technically a spinoff of a movie, this series stands easily on its own — lots of action, monsters, and gallons of vampiric blood.

Saya Otonashi is anemic, and she doesn’t remember anything about her life before she was adopted by a kindly veteran, George, and his sons Kai and Riku. Other than that, she’s a perfectly normal Okinawa schoolgirl. Then a monster attacks her, one night at her high school.

She’s saved by a beautiful, mysterious man carrying a cello case, who forces her to drink a little of his blood. She destroys the monster in a matter of seconds — unaware that her punky, overprotective brother Kai also saw the monster. Soon American military forces arrive to clean up, and everything is hushes up.

And Saya’s confusion only grows when she finds that George is discussing her mysterious past with a man named David. She goes on a search for answers — both from the cellist, Haji, and from George. But then George is attached by one of the monstrous, vampiric Chiropterans, and Saya finds that she may be the only one who can stop it.

Technically “Blood+” is actually a spinoff from an older anime movie, “Blood: The Last Vampire.” But while that movie concentrated on action and monsters, the show seems to be more interested in exploring a young vampire girl’s growing problems, and exploring this unique vampire mythos. And it IS pretty unique — it’s more like a disease than a supernatural unlife.

The first few episodes basically set up the rest of the series, introducing mysterious organizations, vendettas, and monsters that will drag you up into a tree and rip off your head. There are some warm’n'cuddly moments in the Otonashi family, but they’re outweighed by Saya’s sinister past, bloody slayings, and David’s organization. And the amazing thing is, there’s still plenty of unanswered questions.

It also has really gorgeous animation, which is more realistic than many anime series have. Very sleek, dark, sharply-defined, and vaguely gothic in appearance, and given extra beauty by the cello melodies that Haji is always playing. The script is pretty good as well, although most of the best lines are stolen by Kai (”Time to have fun…. without YOU!”).

Saya is a likable heroine at the start — she’s an optimistic, ordinary schoolgirl who only has one real problem (amnesia). But we do get to see some of her darker sides when she’s fighting, and Kari Wahlgren does an excellent job with both sides of Saya’s personality.

Most of the other characters aren’t explored yet, but George’s tragic past and Kai’s punky, protective attitude make them seem very well-rounded. And though we don’t get much information about Haji, the cello-playing vampire is an intriguing character. Being voiced by Crispin Freeman doesn’t hurt either.

The first volume of “Blood+” is a nice introduction to this gory, unique action anime, with lots of vampires and buckets of blood. But don’t watch it after dark.

Blood + is more than just a gory vampire show. It shows a long history of two sisters, those who serve and protect them and why they are trying to kill each other. It also shows the struggling relationship between Saya and Kai. Kai knows that Saya is a Vampire like monster but still says that she is still his little sister and he will protect her no matter what. There are many underlieing stories combined in the siries than just the main one. I would recomend this to everyone who likes Anime. It is excelently drawn, and very realistic. The move that came before it though, I would not recomend that you watch it. It does not cover anything about the siries, just shows what would be a two part episode, very poorly drawn and not life like at all. This sieries is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH, 1000 TIMES MUCH BETTER!

Even though when Doris Day marched into Jack Warner’s office to protest the script of “Lucky Me”, little did she know that her fans would love this picture and cherish it for decades.

I can understand her concern. She had just come off the great success of “Calamity Jane” which had been an Oscar winner and Day had had a tremendous hit record with “Secret Love”.

After being convinced that she should do the picture, she decided to give her performance 110% even though she was in ill health. And, what a performance it is! With able support from Phil Silvers, Nancy Walker, Martha Hyer and Eddie Foy, Jr. and a terrific co-star in Robert Cummings, she was delightful as “Candy Williams” a stranded-in-Florida showgirl with dreams of Broadway stardom.

Miss Day performed , or was involved in all of the musical numbers in the film, most notably, “Love You Dearly”, “Bluebells of Broadway”, “I Speak to the Stars” (a Day record hit) and the showstopping, “I Wanna Sing Like an Angel”.

Phil Silvers was “Sgt. Bilko” and Nancy Walker was “Ida Morgenstern” and Eddie Foy, Jr. was “Hindsey” from “Pajama Game”. In short, they were playing their most famous roles.

Doris Day’s opening number was a true star performance. Only she could get away with singing her head off, bouncing down the Miama streets singing “The Supersitition Song”. Truly great.

The film moves along nicely and has no lags, thanks to the director, Jack Donahue, who kept things bouncy. The color is bright and the actors work well together.

See this one and don’t forget the popcorn.

LUCKY ME is one of the lesser musicals which Doris Day lent her talents to. It was also one of the last films she made under her Warners contract. The score reunited her with “Calamity Jane” tunesmiths Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster.

Day plays a young actress called Candy Williams, stuck in a second-string touring revue, ‘Parisian Pretties’. When the troupe is stranded in Miami after failing to pay a restaurant bill, Candy catches the attention of Broadway composer Dick Carson (Bob Cummings). With the usual premise of mixed identities and comic hijinks, the story bubbles away to the delight of audiences.

The score includes several gems including “The Superstition Song” (a gangbusters opening number for Doris), “High Hopes”, “The Bluebells of Broadway”, and “I Speak to the Stars”. Day shares the screen with some of the most talented musical comedy vets (Nancy Walker, Phil Silvers and Eddie Foy Jr.). A pure joy.

In a genre littered with hundreds of samey quickly-forgotten offerings of mediocre quality, this one differentiates itself surprisingly well. The tale is older than Shakespeare: girl meets boy, boy likes girl, but the inevitable misunderstandings contrive to sustain them apart until the kill. Nothing unique, but what raises “Adore” from the crowd is both its shameless tongue-in-cheek manner and its distinctly British sensibility – as explain in some scathingly hilarious dialogue. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, certainly, but if you’re a fan of British (or fair notion snarky) humour, and you delight in movies that don’t bewitch themselves seriously, I can’t recommend this one to you enough.

Good movie..Its cute,comic and a estimable chick flick…I like Brittany Murphy so thats why I wanted to seize this movie and was jubilant that I did…Its a all around nice movie…
