Even though when Doris Day marched into Jack Warner’s office to protest the script of “Lucky Me”, little did she know that her fans would love this picture and cherish it for decades.

I can understand her concern. She had just come off the great success of “Calamity Jane” which had been an Oscar winner and Day had had a tremendous hit record with “Secret Love”.

After being convinced that she should do the picture, she decided to give her performance 110% even though she was in ill health. And, what a performance it is! With able support from Phil Silvers, Nancy Walker, Martha Hyer and Eddie Foy, Jr. and a terrific co-star in Robert Cummings, she was delightful as “Candy Williams” a stranded-in-Florida showgirl with dreams of Broadway stardom.

Miss Day performed , or was involved in all of the musical numbers in the film, most notably, “Love You Dearly”, “Bluebells of Broadway”, “I Speak to the Stars” (a Day record hit) and the showstopping, “I Wanna Sing Like an Angel”.

Phil Silvers was “Sgt. Bilko” and Nancy Walker was “Ida Morgenstern” and Eddie Foy, Jr. was “Hindsey” from “Pajama Game”. In short, they were playing their most famous roles.

Doris Day’s opening number was a true star performance. Only she could get away with singing her head off, bouncing down the Miama streets singing “The Supersitition Song”. Truly great.

The film moves along nicely and has no lags, thanks to the director, Jack Donahue, who kept things bouncy. The color is bright and the actors work well together.

See this one and don’t forget the popcorn.

LUCKY ME is one of the lesser musicals which Doris Day lent her talents to. It was also one of the last films she made under her Warners contract. The score reunited her with “Calamity Jane” tunesmiths Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster.

Day plays a young actress called Candy Williams, stuck in a second-string touring revue, ‘Parisian Pretties’. When the troupe is stranded in Miami after failing to pay a restaurant bill, Candy catches the attention of Broadway composer Dick Carson (Bob Cummings). With the usual premise of mixed identities and comic hijinks, the story bubbles away to the delight of audiences.

The score includes several gems including “The Superstition Song” (a gangbusters opening number for Doris), “High Hopes”, “The Bluebells of Broadway”, and “I Speak to the Stars”. Day shares the screen with some of the most talented musical comedy vets (Nancy Walker, Phil Silvers and Eddie Foy Jr.). A pure joy.

The new DVD includes the vintage short “When the Talkies Were Young”, the Oscar-nominated cartoon “Sandy Claws”, plus the requisite trailer.

In a genre littered with hundreds of samey quickly-forgotten offerings of mediocre quality, this one differentiates itself surprisingly well. The tale is older than Shakespeare: girl meets boy, boy likes girl, but the inevitable misunderstandings contrive to sustain them apart until the kill. Nothing unique, but what raises “Adore” from the crowd is both its shameless tongue-in-cheek manner and its distinctly British sensibility – as explain in some scathingly hilarious dialogue. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, certainly, but if you’re a fan of British (or fair notion snarky) humour, and you delight in movies that don’t bewitch themselves seriously, I can’t recommend this one to you enough.

Good movie..Its cute, comic and a estimable chick flick…I like Brittany Murphy so thats why I wanted to seize this movie and was jubilant that I did…Its a all around nice movie…

This is a brilliantly scripted and acted action-suspense-thriller. Some scenes are extra-violent, with one prison guard having his torso carved in half with a power tool during a break-out; in another scene, the chief villain is sent flying off a tower and ends up pinned like a beetle on a pole. The first half is undoubtedly the best, with its tense and absorbing psychological battle between Earl Blake (John Lithgow) and Nick Styles (Denzel Washington) the smart, wise-cracking cop who put him away, and who then turns succesful District Attorney. It is Styles’s success that Blake venomously grudges and so he hatches an elaborate and devious plan from out of prison to destroy Styles. The second half of the film is characterised by implausibility and anti-climax. But on the whole, the dialogue is above the average and the action has a hard-trimmed, gritty quality about it.

Lithgow is awesome as master criminal Earl Blake. A ‘bad dude’ who spectacularly breaks out of a maximum-security jail. His mission: to deconstruct the life of the cop who jailed him. What follows is one of the most energetic movies I’ve ever seen. The camera never stays still and is constantly gliding around the actors, twisting and turning and framing at bizarre angles. Watch out for a beautifully shot sequence in which Blake has the cop held hostage, drugs him and then pays for a prostitute to have sex with him – there is some fantastic lighting here, and great acting. A deadpan face, hilarious one-liners and the coolest haircut – it can only be Lithgow doing what he does best: playing a bad guy.

Episode 52, A Demon’s True Nature is the most appealing of the three episodes, particularly after the very disgusting moth-demon is disposed of. Half demon Inu Yasha gives a glimpse of what he really would be like if he were to fulfill his quest to become a full demon, and suffice to say it isn’t pretty, and the body count is high. He pretends to be brave about it afterwards, but Kagome’s “Don’t kid yourself” and the dialogue that follows is some of the most honest and moving of any episode. This one just gets better and better as it continues.

The next two episodes, 53 and 54, set the tone for a number of future episodes, which is both good and bad. The musical score gets increasingly rich, and the animation is as good as ever. We also get to find out about the demon-dragon, or dragon-demon, Ryukotusei, that appears in the end-credits along with Inu Yasha’s brother in a number of early episodes. But what unfolds is fairly predictable. It boils down to another “what new neat thing can we make Inu Yasha’s sword Tetsusaiga do”. Ok ok, wind scar, backlash wave, we get it already, it’s one powerful sword. Inu Yasha will emerge signficantly more powerful than he was before. The question is, is he now more powerful than his father, or does he yet have to accomplish more?

The original elements that made the series so interesting, the Arch Demon Naraku, Sango’s little brother, Inu Yahsa’s lost love Kikyo, even Kagome’s family, all seem to have faded into the background while more and more second-rank antagonists, allies, and others appear on the scene. Even the quest to retrieve the shards of the sacred jewel seems to have lost much of its importance. Still, it is always interesting, visually exciting, the sound is great, and the characters well-rounded. For episode 52 especially, it’s worth the price.

Box cover is a bit of a departure, in that you have only Inu Yasha, no Kagome or other characters, just Ryukotusei. Extras, as always, are fairly minimal.

I’d say “The Demon Within” episode is the first of the third season cause Adult Swim showed this episode first to start new episodes. Inuyasha is fighting this big moth dragon like demon named Ryukotsugei, the same demon Inuyasha’s father imprisoned long ago. It was the last time that Inuyasha had transformed into his full demon blood when he was fighting the big monster once Inuyasha grab his Tetsusagia he changed back into a half demon then for the first time he learn the backlash wave then the defeated the monster. He also learn how to use the windscare anytime he wants. And his swoard got lighter.
