Fritz Lang’s METROPOLIS was very successful with both critics and audiences when it debuted in 1927 Berlin–but it was thereafter edited for distribution by Channing Pollock, who disliked it and removed tall chunks of the film and substantially altered the storyline. The resulting film was admired for its visual style, but it proved a considerable and box office disappointment. Neglected in the wake of sound, surviving prints of the film were left to corrode and decay–and when it began to approach the home market via VHS and DVD the results were very hit or miss; Blackhawk released a fairly credible version of the truncated film to home video, but for the most fraction the quality of these releases varied from barely mediocre to downright unwatchable.

Until now.

A spacious chunk of METROPOLIS–perhaps as remarkable a quarter of more–has been forever lost, but this Kino Video DVD release offers the single best version of the film available. The previously lop footage that mild exists has been restored; gaps in the film have been bridged by the occasional utilize of stills and explanatory title cards; the film itself has been painstakingly and digitally restored; and the soundtrack is the Gottfried Huppertz recent created for the film’s 1927 Berlin debut. In seeing this version of METROPOLIS, I was struck by how very differently it reads from the previously available truncated version. The visual style and the yarn itself are considerable more enchanting and cohesive, and in the wake of this restoration it becomes impossible to boom the film station as landmark of international cinema.

Freder Fredersen (Gustav Frohlich) is the son of Joh Fredersen (Alfred Able), who reigns over the gigantic city of Metropolis. Freder is surprised to recognize his lifestyle has been built on the unseen but backbreaking labor of an entire class of unseen workers who tend the machines that compose the city run–and he descends to the subterranean levels of Metropolis in an trouble to understand their lives… and, not incidentally, to win the mysterious but handsome woman Maria (Brigitta Helm) who has inspired his interest in the workers’ scrape. But his father is concerned by both Freder’s interest and Maria’s activities among the workers, and he turns to scientist C.A. Rotwang (Rudolf Klein-Rogge) for serve. Rotwang has created a robot, and he agrees to give it the likeness of Maria in order to undermine both Freder’s cherish for the girl and her fill activities. But Rotwang has a hidden agenda of his own: once the robot has been unleashed, he will spend her to end Metropolis and thereby proper revenge on Joh Fredersen for past transgressions against him.

In many respects the legend is simplistic, but the film’s visual style and connotations are anything but. Deeply influenced by such art movements as Expressionism, Objectivism, Art Deco, and Bauhaus, the film is visually fascinating–not only in its scenic designs, but in director Lang’s famed skill at creating the great crowd scenes that dominate the film and building the bolt and tension of the film as it moves toward an intense climax. But while one can–and many do–admire the film purely at this level, there is quite a lot going on in terms of philosophical screech as well: while it offers few viable solutions, the film raises such issues as the relationship between capital and labor, the situation of religion in original society, human reaction to overwhelming technology, and (perhaps most interestingly) the drift of government into a class-conscious corporate entity. And religious motifs abound in the film: a largely deserted cathedral; Moloch; the Tower of Babel; and crosses–intriguingly juxtaposed with a repeating motif of the pentagram-like designs associated with the robot. It is animated stuff.

There has been complaint that this restoration runs at improper race and the performances are therefore unnecessarily jerky. I did not pick up this to be the case. In clear instances the movement is deliberately jerky and mechanical–the workers are a case in point–but beyond this there is nothing for which the incompatibility between calm acting and current acting techniques cannot myth. There has also been some complaint that the title cards should have been left in their novel German and translated via subtitle. There is a clear validity to this, but it seems a minor quibble; title cards were typically translated in the quiet era itself. The DVD includes a number of extras, including collected photographs, biographies of the major figures fervent in the film, and two engrossing documentaries-one on the restoration process and one on the creation of the film itself. Both are interesting; the audio commentary track by film historian Enno Patalas, however, is mildly disappointing. But when all is said and done, it is the film that counts. And this restoration is a mighty achievement, to say the least, a project which brings a huge landmark of world cinema aid from the edge of the abyss. Indispensible; a must-own.

–GFT (Amazon Reviewer) –

This is the 139 exiguous, tinted version, with the disjointed music, distributed by “JEF films” and labeled “Aikman Archive” in yellow on the box. The sound is unpleasant and the video quality is abominable. For satisfactory video quality, procure the version produced by Kino Video instead. although the Kino version has a poor sound track, at least the video quality is very sterling. For good sound, procure the Moroder version of Metropolis.

This review assumes that you have already seen Metropolis. For those curious with Metropolis, it is considered “the” first SciFi movie — the robot, the frosty visual effects of future cities, and a few enraged scientist lab scenes. But it is only a titanic movie IF you glance the suitable version. Sadly, there are more then 6 versions of the film floating around —

Black/white, dreadful music, monotonous playback

B/W, poor music, quick playback

tinted, dreadful music, lifeless playback

tinted, generous music, swiftly playback

plus a few versions with unpleasant video quality (the DVD version is such a case) and other versions with missing scenes, a non-logical trot to the sage line due to poor editing, etc.

Unfortunately, the station with prints of Metropolis is a bit of a mess. Those looking for the tinted Girogio Moroder sound track should NOT derive this tape.

Although the rush time of this version of the movie is 139 minutes, it is actually missing scenes that are in the 90 microscopic Kino Video and Moroder versions of the tape. The reason is that this 139 microscopic tape is urge at a SLOWER run than the Kino tape is. Also, the music is totally out of sync and unrelated to the action.

Unfortunately, Moroder’s copy is not available from anywhere. At $24.95, I’d hoped that the folks at Amazon.com had found a copy but this is not the case. Someone should win a superior copy of the Moroder tape, sell that, and burn all of the other versions. Although some people object to Moroder’s rock soundtrack, at least it follows the chronicle line and is an advantageous sound track on its maintain.

I was fortunate enough to have seen Moroder’s copy the first time I saw Metropolis and I am very gay that I did.

To add further insult to injury, the CD of Moroder’s soundtrack is not the same as the music that appearred in the movie. The CD has some additional songs and is missing some others. So you can’t redub a video from the CD. So don’t rep the “Moroder CD” and examine to remix your absorb copy of the video.

OK, having provided all of the background info, there is the review:

139-minute B&W version published by JEF films. The shroud says it is a “newly restored version”, but image quality is so awful that I would rather call it “newly destroyed version”. It has actually more missing scenes than both Kino’s and Moroder’s versions, but runs longer because of slower frame urge.

This movie is a perfect example of what Nobel Prize Winner Murray Gell-Mann calls “Quantum Flapdoodle”, i.e. an attempt to expend Quantum Theory to serve a metaphysical, even mystical, plan of the world. This is often the result of confusing Quantum Theory with the interpretation of Quantum Theory. The premise of the movie seems to be to indicate that we invent our contain reality through the observation of it. What follows is a lengthy pseudo-scientific explanation of specific elements of Quantum Theory placed in a light that supports a distorted mystical idea.

Buy,Download, Or Stream What the Bleep Do We Know!?! Click Here

One of the first and most glaringly aggravating points about this movie is the editing. Many of the physicists in this movie were filmed for hours explaining Quantum Theory and the mechanics leisurely it, but only take pieces of the footage were worn out of context to produce it seem as if these experts were supporting a mystical world thought, when in fact they almost universally scoff at it. Coupled with that is the fact that many of these “experts” actually have no physics credentials, Quantum or otherwise.

But what about the science, you ask. Unfortunately, the science in this movie is abysmal. First, as mentioned before, they confuse the theory with the interpretation. This is simply because they advocate the “observation is reality” view, which isn’t fragment of the theory. For a theory to be considered science it must be disprovable. Observation creating reality cannot be disproven simply because it would require an observer to validate, which would then invalidate the “theory”. So from the beginning we have a base basis for science.

Buy,Download, Or Stream What the Bleep Do We Know!?! Click Here

Following that, the movie then cites its “proof”, which is also scientifically invalid. The first was the favorite sage that when Columbus arrived in North America that the natives could peep “the ripples in the water” but couldn’t sight the ships. Nowhere in the movie does it situation that this is a account… its actually presented as literal fact (though I should effect it isn’t implicitly stated in the film that this is a fact, it is certainly implied) . This example fails to own up to scientific standards for various reasons. First, its hearsay. There aren’t any written records or verifiable evidence supporting the myth. Its a record, pure and simple, and as such proves nothing. Second, it fails entertain the more logical reasons, such as the ripples appearing in the water before the ships had actually arrived, a distinctly logical conclusion.

The second example illustrated the “Maharisi Attain”. For those unusual with the experiment, in 1993 four-thousand people practiced trancsendental meditation in an attempt to lower the crime rate in Washington DC. After the “experiment”, the data was analyzed, tweaked and otherwise manipulated to pronounce, amazingly, that violent crime was down 18% (though the film claims 25) . This was viewed as proof of the power of group meditation and sure thinking. Sadly, this example also fails to satisfy the rigorous criteria of science. First, there was no control group, and as such no scheme of brilliant what the crime rate would have been without the meditation. This implies that the lowered crime rate could be the result of several, unrelated factors. Also, the crime rate was only 18% lower than what was predicted by analysis of previous criminal trends in the region. Violent crime increased from the previous year, unprejudiced not as remarkable as was expected by experts. Second, the slay rate during this time actually increased, so while violent crime as a whole increased less than was predicted, more murders were being commited during this time than were predicted. Thirdly, the panel who reviewed the data created by this experiment were followers of the Maharisi and could not be counted as fair, non-biased observers.

The third portion of “proof” supplied is Dr. Emoto’s famed Water Tests in which he tapes words to containers of water and freezes them into crystals that, supposedly, compose pretty images when nice words like “appreciate” and “thank you” are taped to them and putrid, homely images when mean words like “I disfavor you” and “I want to destroy you” are passe. These words were tried in several languages and sometimes images are worn as well. Unfortunately, Dr. Emoto’s astounding work has never been independently recreated in a scientific setting. In fact, the James Randi Educational Foundation has offered a $1,000,000 prize to Dr. Emoto if his data can pass a double blind test, a prize which he has refused to even attempt to claim.

After this there is a long discussion about cellular peptides and how these are responsible for all observation, emotion and, in essence, reality. This was the only section of the movie that had some sound basis in reality and could be backed up with science. It is 100% factual that the chemical processes in our brains can vastly enact how we plan reality, which is the basis of psychiatric pharmocology. The movie then moves on to utilize this as proof of the power of distinct thinking, i.e. “Our brains control how we belief reality so we don’t need mind-altering medications to be overjoyed!” Yay! Except when there’s something unsuitable with our brain and those chemicals are out of balance. I’d like to watch somebody reveal Charles Manson that all his insanity could be cured by the power of distinct thinking!

The final straw that breaks this movie’s proverbial serve is the inclusion of Ramtha, the 35,000 year customary Atlantian warrior spirit brought to us courtesy of a Tacoma housewife named JZ Knight (his “channel” in Unusual Age circles) . In a thick, Hollywood-esque Eastern European accent, Ramtha tells us about the wonders of Quantum Physics and how it is the first science to even arrive conclude to explaining magic and miracles. Okay… I don’t even know where to launch with this. First of all, if this is a movie about science, why are they including the claims of a Original Age cult leader who can’t be verified one method or another. Also, what are this person’s credentials. If its fair JZ Knight pretending to be some dilapidated Atlantian, does she have a Quantum Physics background? Second, if she IS some extinct Atlantian warrior, what are HIS Quantum Physics credentials (which could be easily verified with a series of Doctorate level tests)?

Of course, her/his authority is never questioned, and there’s a reason. It took a itsy-bitsy digging to acquire, but the gigantic majority of the people interested in making this film are followers of Ramtha. When this came to light, I was flabbergasted. The fact that most of the movies views tumble factual in line with her group’s Recent Age philosophy puts an entirely novel stagger on the movie. Suddenly this looks like nothing but one, vast recruitment share for Ramtha.

I gave this movie one star because it does one salubrious thing: It gets people thinking about Quantum Physics and reality. Some people who spy this movie might be enthusiastic to dig deeper into the sincere science and check out John Gribbin’s profitable series of books about Quantum Physics for the layman. I recommend “In Search of Schrondinger’s Cat” most highly.

As Richard Feynman said, “If you consider you understand quantum mechanics, you don’t understand quantum mechanics”, and that sums up the major jam with this movie. It provides a belief of quantum mechanics that is absurdly simple and abysmally unscientific. The beauty of particle physics is magical in and of itself, it doesn’t need to be married to philosophy and Unique Age metaphysics to be unbelievable.

I humbly submit that truly open-minded persons ought to earn mighty spend of that laudable trait in educating themselves about this movie: the topics it purports to deal with, the manner in which it attempts to report them, & the possible motives & intentions of its makers. Also assume with an commence mind the plan that until one has attained an view of the topics enthusiastic, the objective thing to do is to reserve one’s judgement, especially effusive unearned praise. And finally, try on for size the precept that it’s pretty to initiate out with an initiate mind but not quite so desireable to slay up with one.

Below, for the open-minded, are some suggestions for further reading, grouped by topic. (If the filmmakers had really been very concerned about educating people about these issues, wouldn’t they have leapt to provide this information themselves? )

Tommy Davis’ first feature-length documentary casts light on a major quandary in America today: illegal immigration. It is an economic quandary, insofar as the US economy depends upon cheap illegal labor. It is a human rights sigh, insofar as thousands die and more suffer every year entering the US in search of a better life. And it is a political dilemma, insofar as making the borders more, less, or equally porous is opposed by some faction or another.

That what unfolds on hide is illegal, genuinely uncertain, and previously unseen by anyone but those who have made the meander, gives the film the irresistible allure of transgression, risk, and voyeurism. Davis’ hushed narration throughout the film conveys the mortal seriousness of the subject. And the music of Sin Panache fits each scene like a glove, giving issue to the emotions along the plan.

The news clip toward the ruin is a masterful touch, highlighting how very well-liked such events are. The impersonal newscast contrasts sharply with the very personal film, as if Davis is criticizing the cool manner in which the bellow is normally depicted.

Davis’ film is not propaganda, nor is it one-sided, as some xenophobes have claimed. It has won so many awards because it is a timely, heartfelt portrait showing the human face of a previously impersonal political snarl. Davis should be commended for bravely highlighting an all too ignored disclose – and all the more for doing it so well.

Some might beget that this film is pro immigrant. I’m not so certain I agree with that notion. While I respect different opinions on the whine, I have the director has created a film that is not propaganda or pro one side of the boom or another. Davis simply shows the migrants perspective of illegally immigrating to the United States; the why and the how? I absorb the footage and information that Mojados offers is key to thought the root of the converse, and can’t be seen anywhere else. Migrants risk their lives and go through brutal life-threatening terrain to reach to the United States and for the most fraction work hard and contribute to our society and economy. They leave their families late in order to eventually near succor to them with money and hopes for a better life. While the natural result of the film may advance off as sympathetic to illegal immigrants, it’s based on the fact and humanity of the announce.

This John Ford classic has all the requirements for a stout film. While a bit sappy at times with the faded army Irish types, Victor Mclaughlin got a second life with these films, there is smooth enough here to bewitch the intellect. Shirely Temple is bright to explore grown up. Her acting style certainly did not evolve distinguished over the years.

What makes this film tall are Fonda and Wayne, both playing roles opposite to their norm. Fonda is wonderfully arrogant and yet vulnerable at the same time. Wayne is humble and second fiddle for a change, he comes off well being the wiser, disgruntled subordinate. What really makes this film is the scenry an production quality. John Ford was painstakingly legal with unifroms, equippment and gear. He provides a believeable image of army life, with all its pettiness and sense of honor. Everything is legal down to the various bugle calls and the troop commands issued to the men. While there are determined comparisons to Custer, what makes this film keen is the sheer search for of military incompetence. Fonda’s character is desperate to compose a name for himself, and he sacrefices his enlighten in order to do so. The battle scenes are provocative to peek, even the outmoded fashion carriage fling with the Indians running about is well done. In the extinguish what is the message of this film? There probably isn’t any exactly. Fonda’s character creates a military anguish, pure and simple, yet we ogle that Wayne is willing to carry on this legacy of heroism to inspire the regiment in its continued campaigns against the hostiles. Here we behold how myths are made from the most unlikely sources. A resplendent film all around, and probably the best of Ford’s cavalry epics.

The first, and in my view, the best of John Ford’s so-called Cavarly Trilogy. “Fort Apache” is Ford’s thinly veiled re-telling of the Custer-Little Bighorn sage. A subject that fascinated Ford, but he didn’t want to be hemmed in by the history so he completely changed the names and locations so he could negate the sage the device he wanted to say it.

Henry Fonda plays a Custer-like Colonel who has seen his career’s meteoric rise during the Civil War destroy with peacetime and an assignment to a frontier outpost. He resents this, and looks for an opportunity to come by fame and glory. He finds this opportunity at the expense of the Apaches who have left their reservation for agreeable reasons. If he can defeat the Apaches then his career will certainly be boosted. Fonda’s Colonel Thursday is a doughty and competent officer, who does contemplate some of the injustice and indignity that the reservation system has imposed upon the Apaches, but his lust for glory blinds him to everything in the kill.

John Wayne plays the competent, experienced second in convey who clashes repeatedly with his expedient. The film also features a worship interest between a grown-up Shirley Temple and her then real-life husband John Agar. Being a Ford movie there is plenty of silly relief from various Irish NCO’s, and romanticized vignettes of frontier cavalry life.

Hello Folks,

I want to thank MGM for this release….they really got it correct!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Rocky! Click Here

first off…

all the advantageous bonus features from the 25th Anniversary edition..

the 30 shrimp on camera commentary by Stallone, the tributes to Burgess Meredith, the cinematographer James Crabbe and Bill Conti..ALL made it to this edition…which means you don’t have to occupy onto older tainted editions to have all the bonus features…and this IS a mountainous deal. Too many new DVD editions of movies lose faded features which compose keeping mutliple copies primary and that stinks.

The extra features are really too many to list…multiple commentaries..and the Stallone alone is worth the update…its truly like watching the movie with him in the room…WOW!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Rocky! Click Here

all the past trailers…the appearance on the Dinah Shore indicate..featurettes…this is a NO BRAINER for fans of the movie.

The three fragment “making of” which runs about an hour and half and features the main players is unbelievable in its revelations about the movie and the craft of making movies and WHY this was a million to one chance and WHY their lack of budget actually helped in many ways. The twenty miniature documentary on the Steadicam and its inventor …who filmed his demo on the art museum steps before heading to Hollywood….its unprejudiced proof that all the planets lined up for this one!

For those out there bitching about the upgraded releases of DVDs…don’t consume em…for those of us who fancy the movies…these higher quality releases are very welcome. I picked this 2 disc site up for $15 at Target…and there are hours of features…WHAT A DEAL!

If you adore the movie…score this version.

if you don’t care about bonus features…stick with your feeble copy.

One of the only films in my top ten list that seems to bag better every time I discover it. Rocky Balboa is one of the most charming down on his luck loser’s the cinema has ever seen. The film sweeps a range of emotions from hope where it was all but gone to chill you to the bone despair. A film of loneliness, surrender and ultimately redemption. Impartial re-watched the scene where Mickey comes to ask Rocky if he can manage him. The apprehension in the sub-text and in Rocky’s eyes is so tragic and aesthetic. I peaceful derive caught up in it after dozens of viewings. Fair extraordinary.

Movie 5.0 out 5.0 stars

Blu-ray details

The represent quality is stellar, grainy and improbable. There are some inconsistencies in the shadows during the fight and of course a astronomical color shift when they slash to stock footage of the audience, but most if not all of these artifacts are probably from the recent release. The sound is tinny here and there and over modulates once in a while, again I consider this probably due to the novel sound track being 30 years former but it is distracting on occasion.

The biggest disappointment is the lack of extras. MGM simultaneously released a collector’s edition 2 disc DVD of ROCKY with commentary from Stallone and hours of leisurely the scenes and documentaries on the film. Unfortunately none of these are on the Blu-ray edition. The only extra is the novel theatrical trailer. Quite a disappointment and although the narrate is mountainous, I would have opted for the DVD if I knew ahead of time. A 30 year old-fashioned film is technically sub-par to what we look today and seeing it on a DVD vs. a Blu-ray Disc is probably not a hugely dramatic inequity. I suggest saving a few bucks and getting a lot more with the 2 Disc DVD.

Green Lantern: First Flight is an awesome film. It doesn’t ruin a lot of time on the origin (which takes state in the first few minutes) and heads straight to the action. Some people might glimpse this as detrimental, but I like how the DC enthralling projects a lot of the time will fair buy that you know the basics of what is going on. It saves a lot of time and allows the movie to open getting to the point.

First off, I was surprised at how brutal some of the violence was for this cartoon. I know that these releases are not necessarily tailor-made for children, but this is no JLU episode. People are impaled, shot, torn through walls into the vacuum of position, and there is comely grand non-stop fighting through most of the 120 minutes. I don’t have any dilemma with that, but it might not be to everyone’s liking.

Plot-wise, it’s not Shakespeare, but we are talking about an action cartoon here. There is a hero, a villain and lots of chilly exhaust of the Green Lantern rings. Those were the only prerequisites I was looking for going in to this thing, and I was not disappointed.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Green Lantern: First Flight! Click Here

The jabber cast did a immense job as well. If there is one thing that DC always does correct, it is casting their voices. Michael Madsen as Kilowog was my personal common. Too abominable he didn’t have more deny time.

This might possibly be my celebrated DVD project of theirs, which is saying a lot considering the unbelievable Wonder Woman, Recent Frontier, and Gotham Knight DVD films. I sincerely hope they continue putting out quality releases like this one.

In the Marvel universe Daredevil is the Man Without Horror. In DC Comics that stamp falls to Hal Jordan, who shows no panic and brandishes a will of friggin’ iron. I’m not one to be on Hal Jordan’s jock but I’ve been reading humorous books long enough to know unbiased how remarkable this guy’s been keep thru the wringer. Not only did he have to assign up with Oliver Queen in all those socially relevant stories, but years ago Hal Jordan went insane and turned to the dim side – but having your city murdered under your nose might do that. Dude became a mega-supervillain called Parallax and wreaked incalculable devastation. Later, Jordan sacrificed himself and eventually took up the mantle of the Spectre, after which he came serve from the dreary (coming help from the tiring, being only marginally more bewitching than chewing gum IF you’re a funny book character) . In DC’s line of direct-to-video new bright movies, it’s only natural that the spotlight first focused on the Enormous Three. But, after Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, I can sight why Green Lantern would receive the next exciting feature film treatment. Hal Jordan, whether home on Earth or patrolling the risky spaceways, happens to be one of DC’s all-time enormous guns.

GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT spits on the insensible burn set-up and instead plonks you straight into the thick of things. Within the first four minutes of the film the dying extra-terrestrial Abin Sur rupture lands and bestows his power ring onto dashing test pilot Hal Jordan, and Hal then becomes the Green Lantern of Sector 2814. There’s barely time to answer Carol Ferris and her Ferris Air company before the unusual Lantern is whisked away to a hellacious deep location adventure. Cue the non-stop action. Honest one of the reasons I dig this movie.

Hal Jordan is transported to the center of the universe, to the planet Oa, home to those immortal blue midgets known as the Guardians of the Universe. The Guardians, creators of the Green Lantern Corps, don’t deem mighty of humans. Sinestro, the valiant Green Lantern of Sector 1417, has to talk mercurial to convince them to allow him to buy Jordan under his glide. So off Sinestro and Jordan go, on a mission to learn the identity of Abin Sur’s killer.

But there’s an even bigger dwelling brewing. For a while now the Lanterns had been on the lookout for any tag of the yellow element, the only thing remarkable enough to counter the green element, which is the source of the Green Lantern Corps’ power rings. I don’t consider I’m spoilering things when I say that Sinestro isn’t as gracious as advertised, that dude actually leans closer to finkhood than to heroism. Arrive immeasurable power has corrupted Sinestro, to the point where he now believes that the demolish justifies the means and has no qualms at all about torturing prisoners for information. He doesn’t believe great of the Guardians and disparages them every chance he gets. In his unique world order, there is no room for these immortal blue midgets. Sinestro very easily lives up to his procure as Hal Jordan’s archnemesis. As a bonus, for those who’ve been reading up on original Green Lantern stuff, Sinestro eventually dons his sunless and yellow outfit from the Sinestro Corps. He looks darkly aesthetic in a fashionably despotic kind of method.

I’m so musty to Hal Jordan being the experienced pro that it’s sort of refreshing to glimpse him being the newbie on the block and getting that rookie treatment. You know you’re lowest on the totem pole when even the squirrel Green Lantern disses you. Serene, soon enough, Hal Jordan is doing his thing, kicking location alien booty, piercing thru conspiracies, and generally proving his doubters unfriendly. I don’t know that Hal’s spend of his ring is all that inventive or imaginative, but, man, there is such decisiveness and flourish to the scheme he puts his ring thru its paces. Surprisingly, my well-liked ring manifestation was that giant golf club, although, since I’m old-school, I’m kinda jubilant there’s a sequence in which the classic vast green fists reach into play.

The high-tail is poppin’, the thrills preserve on comin’, but not so remarkable with the character development. Hal Jordan is Hal Jordan, brash and resourceful and brimming with bravado, even as a fresh-faced rookie and even when his ring is stripped away from him. But Hal fair rolls with the punches. Sinestro is the most though-provoking person here, although not too many’ll be startled with his good-to-evil arc. Several faded GL favorites develop the cut: Boodikka, Arisia, Ch’p, Tomar Re, and one of my all-time popular Lanterns, Kilowog. Gratifyingly, Kilowog is given a gargantuan role and even gets to bid “Poozer!” a couple of times.

The film takes advantage of its PG-13 rating. I liked the violence, but then again I’m a fairly sick mo-fo. Others might raise an eyebrow to scenes of impalements, necks being snapped, and even of a ring’s energy beam lethally punching thru a body. The animation is mostly solid, but is at times shaky, and there’s that one bothersome sequence in which Sinestro’s normally magenta complexion mysteriously shifts to a more human color.

But, never mind, the animators do the job in conveying on film that anecdote cinemascope vibe that comes with Green Lantern’s intergalactic exploits. GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT doesn’t quite accomplish Justice League – The Current Frontier (Two-Disc Special Edition) ’s level of excellence, but it unruffled places third on my list of approved DC direct-to-video spirited films so far (just after Wonder Woman 2009 (Two-Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy) ) . The yellow element battery, created by the creepy Weaponers of Qward, looks impressive and menacing, and Sinestro’s supervillain street creds are established when he almost dismissively takes out gangfuls (Corpsfuls? ) of Green Lanterns. Again, this is a PG-13 represent, so characters actually die in this one, and sometimes quite horribly. Nothing says “Oh crippitycrap” like a shower of defunct power rings ominously klunking on the floor at the Guardians’ feet. But, impartial when things see bleakest, check out who reclaims his power ring (no, it’s not G’nort) .

The special features are… okay. Disc One has: the widescreen feature presentation; the very promising unusual sneak view (7:49 minutes long) at the next DC Universe enthralling film SUPERMAN/BATMAN: PUBLIC ENEMIES (based on Jeph Loeb’s first tale arc from the SUPERMAN/BATMAN funny book and starring the voices of Kevin Conroy, Tim Daly, & Clancy Brown) ; in-depth featurettes on three modern DC intriguing films JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE Recent FRONTIER (10:43 minutes), WONDER WOMAN (10:25 minutes), and BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHT (10:08 minutes) ; and a behind-the-scenes notice (8:50 minutes) at Blackest Night, the DC Comics mega-event which resurrects the humdrum and has them wielding corrupted unlit power rings.

Disc Two has: Unhurried the Record with Geoff Johns as he discusses Green Lantern’s mythology; the radiant friggin’ gigantic DUCK DODGERS episode: “Green Loontern”; Green Lantern Corps Character Profiles on Sinestro and the Guardians of the Universe; and 2 bonus cartoons from JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED: the very, very awesome two-parter “The Once and Future Thing,” in which Batman, Wonder Woman, and the John Stewart Green Lantern pursue Lord Chronos and demolish up first in the Worn West and then 50 years into the future. Hal Jordan shows up for a nano-moment in the second share, which I guess is enough of a tie-in to include the two-parter on this DVD. Not that I’m complaining. Watching GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT has got me all kinds of indignant to view the live action film. Bring it, Ryan Reynolds!!

Christopher Guest’s “Best in Note” is a wildly hilarious satire that pokes fun at people who are overly obsessed with their pets. So obsessed that they would acquire their pets and build them in a type of “beauty pageant” in order to derive awards and recognition. It’s amusing and unrelenting because you glimpse it as an everyday occurrence in society. People like this really do exist, and that is why it’s so funny. The characters are all out of their minds and are a joy to gawk in this very intelligent and unpredictable film.

I had no understanding what I was going to experience when I popped this into the DVD player. At first, it didn’t seem like anything that would interest me. However, almost every single person I know had seen it and encouraged me to seek it. I’m contented I did give it a chance, because I ended up really liking it. The satire is bad and subtle at the same time (something that’s VERY difficult to finish unless the project is in the moral hands) . The actors are hilarious and very attractive, but at the same time you know that these types of people really do exist! Eugene Levy was my accepted person in the film. He’s so subtle and clever when it comes to humor. Overall, everybody was improbable in their roles.

The DVD has some really frosty extras. It has very obliging narrate and sound quality. Extras included are deleted scenes, feature length audio commentary by Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy, theatrical trailer and more. The deleted scenes are delicate bright to glimpse. Tons of special features for those who cherish the extra “bells and whistles.”

“Best in Note” is gargantuan satirical comedy in top produce. Not a wasted second is note in the movie. If you’re looking for something a exiguous less ordinary, this may be the choice for you. Christopher Guest has done an honorable job of orchestrating this very inspiring and clever film that gives us 90 minutes of fun and laughs.

This was a droll, laughable movie, to say the least. I’ve never seen “Waiting for Guffman”, but “Spinal Tap” composed makes me laugh to this day. My main attraction to this movie was Fred Willard(known lately for his hilarious “conversations” with Jay Leno on the Tonight Point To) . This man does wonders when it comes to improv, and this movie unbiased displays that so well.

The film polks fun at Dog Shows(one event in which it’s participants assume itself WAAAAAAAAAY too serious) . This is best displayed when Fred Willard, playing a commentator for the present, asks his partner if he could guess how distinguished Fred benched in his prime. Also to mention his hilarious yarn for dressing up a bloodhound in a Sherlock Holmes uniform, in order to “acquire the crowd pumped”.

I liked this movie, and anyone a fan of mellow humor, rather than gross-out humor(Farrely Bros, etc.) should check this out. It’s more of a comedy for people in their 30’s and up, but I’m 15, and got a ample kick out of it. I won’t touch down on the characters, because I’m certain you’ve read plenty on that already. But, if your in the mood for one hell of a comedy, or objective a slow dilapidated Fred Willard fan like myself, this is definitely worth a idea.

I saw ‘The Hunger’ when it was in the movie theatre in 1983. I didn’t know what to query but David Bowie’s presence in the film made me go into the theatre.

Esthetics! Esthetics! Esthetics! Radiant people, pretty area, shapely music wrapped into the warm womb of blood sucking and immortality and escapism. The storyline doesn’t disappear me, though every performance is stellar. I never perform any empathy for the characters, though I would like to sit down and have lunch with them (on the condition I’m not on the desert menu.)

This is the kind of film one might call a guilty pleasure. No social or vivid message or value, but imprints itself upon the emotional psyche. It provides a window into another side of one’s usual self. Do I fill in vampires and the creature feature scifi world, no. But it can be fun.

The dvd quality is sterling. Mighty better transfer than the video we’ve had all these years. Really gratified it’s available and in our film library. Be Pleased this world where beauty and pointlessness meet for no other reason than to entertain you.

Horror movies are not usually lush, well-photographed or erotic. Yet this one is! David Bowie, Susan Sarandon, and the immortal Catherine Deneuve all sport trendy clothes and buckets of blood in this vampiric fancy triangle. It is well-produced, and though it has been criticized for its “languid” hotfoot — I contemplate it moves at honest the accurate tempo for what the movie is…one long dull seduction. Distinguished is made of the lesbian sex scene, but it’s actually attractive tastefully done and tame by today’s standards. It’s a nice reversal of the Dracula sage — Catherine Deneuve as a bi-sexual immortal who choses her mates alternating sexes through the centuries. It’s a fun view! And who would say no to her anyway? It’s got more style than substance, but oh what a joy to leer a movie that captures a sense of elegance and beauty and wrap it around a awe account! And the music is divine — from the underground gothic stylings of Bauhaus (Peter Murphy actually lip-synchs “Bela Lugosi’s Insensible” over the opening credits) to the fair duet from Delibes (the selection from LAKME it seems everyone conventional after this movie) . It’s an satisfactory movie, and one worth buying since it seems to be disappearing from rental shelves. And the stamp is the lowest you will derive here at AMAZON as opposed to retail outlets!

Exhilarating, laughable, sparkling, plain, and raw, Ewan and Charley purchase us along on their adventure of a lifetime on their BMW R1150 GS Adventure motorcycles. A heartwarming and intimate portrait of two best friends sharing an wonderful trot together on the road, it feels like they retract you accurate along with them on their travels. Ewan’s constant, infectious laugh and Charley’s feisty yet good-natured demeanor and droll facial expressions accomplish them a hilarious and irresistible pair. Every day I looked forward to coming home from work and popping the latest episode into the DVD player to examine where their adventure would assume them next. From the Ukraine, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan to deep into Siberia on the disturbing Road of Bones (Stalin sent 20 million people to their deaths constructing it), they must traverse perilous flooded river crossings that threaten to crush their vehicles and turn them abet, and become helpless witnesses to a horrific maintain poaching perpetrated by the very people who halt to abet them, all nauseatingly caught on camera, of which later, Ewan and Charley say their upright feelings of shock and disgust over the incident. Ewan and Charley have an enthusiasm for living life to fullest that is unmatched and completely addicting. They narrate directly to the audience on camera through their diary logs that puts the entire program onto an intimate, personal level. If you delight in fade programs, are a motorcycle fan, or a fan of Ewan McGregor, this is a highly informative and enthralling documentary of a scramble of exploration on personal and geographic levels. I loved every tiny and hope they hold us on another toddle in the approach future. Other notables include their work with UNICEF and children’s rescue, and adorable animal encounters (don’t miss the beard-biting puppy in the DVD extras) . And in addition, spacious music scoring with song clips from Radiohead, Massive Attack, Orbital, Stereophonics, and more.

Their wander through Africa is more tension-filled (recurring problems within the group erupt but are eventually worked through) and serious, but objective as intelligent and spicy as Long Intention Round on their BMW R1200 GS Adventure motorcycles this time. Perhaps the most difficult and emotional sprint of the two, the group visits a important school in Marsabit, northeast Kenya, where 80 people were massacred, including 20 children in July 2005, and then their ugly visit to a church in Rwanda where 5,000 victims of genocide were slaughtered in one day. Their interaction with local Kenyan farmer families is improbable to gawk, and the children they encounter are adorable and always so alive to in the camera. Their partnership with UNICEF and Riders For Health in Kenya is showcased, demonstrating how medical care and medicine is brought to people who could not access health care otherwise. Also don’t miss The Missing Face on the DVD extras, further detailing their efforts with UNICEF and related organizations that give befriend to impoverished, abandoned, and abused children and what we can do to relieve. Another improbable soundtrack is also included in this adventure (check the Long Method Round position for an episode guide and music credits), which includes artists such as The Boxer Rebellion, Ebb, Ayub Ogada, Geoffrey Oryema, Ben Onono, Afro Celt Sound System, and many more. Thanks Ewan and Charley! I can’t wait for you to bring us along on your next motorcycle slip!

I had already watched “The Long Device Round” a few years ago wait on in UK and was alive to to gaze “The Long Plot Down” as I am originally from Scotland and this adventure was starting in Scotland and ending in South Africa. I had tried to score the DvD from UK before it became available here, but was un-successful. When it did become available, I immediately ordered it. I wasn’t dissapointed. I didn’t assume it was as great as the previous adventure but sequels never seem to live up to the same level as the originals. All in all, I loved seeing the countries Charlie and Ewan visited and I reflect that it was a very well produced, sharp video.

Now, “The Bustle to Dakar” was a top-notch DvD. From originate to conclude, it was a nail-biting adventure. The riders in the rally deserve medals for putting up with all the hardship associated with the hurry. I had heard of the accelerate when it was the “Paris-Dakar” but never fully understood the endurance required to accomplish the event. This DvD graphically depicted every day. I would recomend this Box Station to everyone…..Some “lustrous language” for younger audiences but you could always turn the sound down if you are easily offended!
