This movie is reminiscent of classic comedies of the 60’s. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have wonderful chemistry, but so many droll moments you will laugh out loud. Goldie learning how to be a homemaker is priceless, and she does the physical comedy so well. This movie flows continuously from beginning to slay. It does not toddle in any section. It is a keeper, and a top-notch addition to any collection.

No matter how many times I explore this movie (and have me, I’ve watched it many, many, many times) it’s always exquisite. Goldie Hawn stars as Joanna Stayton, an incrediblly rich, incredibly bored and incredibly bitchy woman with nothing left to do while her yacht is docked at a minute coastal Oregon town called Elk’s Cove but to hire a carpenter named Dean Proffitt (Kurt Russell, gotta admire him) to remodel her closet. But when the job isn’t done to her satisfaction, he winds up overboard along with all his tools. He vows to glean revenge on her and the opportunity presents itself when Joanne falls overboard in the middle of the night and is later discovered by a crew of Portuguese men on a garbage barge. But Joanna has amnesia and can’t remember who she is. And her husband Grant is all to gratified to pretend he doesn’t know her and leave her in the hospital. But when Dean sees the “amnesia lady” on the news, he recognizes Joanna and hatches a concept to catch revenge and acquire the money she owes him. But neither one expects to drop in fancy with the other. Overboard is a fun and silly movie that also teaches us the lesson that money doesn’t retract us complete happiness. It can for you though if you seize Overboard because it’s worth watching hundreds of times over. I treasure it! Devour!

What I know about the Spanish American War can be rattled off in about a exiguous — Remember the Maine! Rough Riders, Guam, Cuba, Puerto Rico and he Philippines. This respectable PBS presentation begins to have in the rest. Using interviews with historians (including Stephen Ambrose and Daniel Brinkley) from America, Cuba and the Philippines, interspersed with period sheet music (”We have remembered the Maine, The Admiral Dewey March) and archival footage, “Crucible of Empire” tells the myth of a young and brash post-Civil War America ready to flex its adolescent muscle against a extinct opponent. The gargantuan characters are here — Teddy Roosevelt, William McKinley, William Randolph Hearst, but also the ignored Cuban and Philipino insurgents, like General Maximo Gomez and Emilio Aguinaldo. The first half of the explain seemed as though it would pooh-pooh the black side of the war, but PBS chose to more or less follow the changing mood of America itself towards its conquests — from war fever to disillusionment. By the raze of the film, the viewer begins to glance the war — with its racism, paternalism, undemocratic underpinnings, one-sided atrocities and the betrayal of the nationalistic aspirations of native-born people — as the repugnant tiny affair that it was. An epilogue brings the anecdote to the note day, through independence, world war and revolution.
My guess is that many of us Americans remember the Civil War and the World Wars, but many of us may have forgotten a war from approximately 110 years ago. We know of Fidel, but some do not know about American dynamics regarding Cuba before him. As the US is currently in a foreign war, this documentary reminds the viewer of another foreign war and perhaps we can learn lessons or earn connections between the two.

This work had diverse interviewees: men and women, Americans and foreigners, Blacks, whites, Latinos, and Asians. What cramped that I read of “Fighting for American Manhood” was very strong and informative, so I was ecstatic to notice its author, Dr. K, Hoganson, interviewed for this work.
This work may be ample for African-American Studies classes as well. The US sent Blacks to Cuba thinking they could deal with tropical environments better. Fair like in the Vietnam War, Unlit and white soldiers were fighting each other unbiased as mighty as with the foreign opponent. Shadowy newspapers, unbiased like in World War II, asked, “Why should we fight injustic abroad when no one is helping us perceive justice here? ” The stupidest thing is that many Americans of the majority background had no view how many Cubans were Dim.

The “hidden agenda” referred to is generally the politics of war post-9/11. This is basically a tape of a speech at a symposium (Glastobury, 2006), but Ian Crane is such an intelligent speaker that if you’re into the material it’s totally worth watching.
I do not recommend this movie. They are ghastly about 2012. The destroy of the world is not 2012. There is great evidence from the Bible that Jesus will return in May 2011, and the world will demolish in October 2011. Unfortunately, movies like Smart and 2012 are spreading lies about the Ruin and other matters.

If your students are anything like mine they will be bored through at least 80% of this documentary. It could have been a lot better. Although, it does have a lot of excellent information, the design it is presented is lacking.Many people are talking about what this celebration means to them but it is honest talk and by far not enough examples. Examples that could be presented better only pick up a few seconds in the status light then it switches to someone talking infront of a wall or simple succor ground. They should have had the people talking show their altar, art work, dance and more of the meaning late it. Teachers study for something better.
I liked the video and dilapidated it in Spanish I level. Most of my students are non-native speakers so they got the whole version in English. They also got to explore that this holiday is not objective well-known in Mexico, but here in Southern CA as well. However, I found the video too repetitive. The interviewees kept on saying the same thing over and over about the holiday. Therefore, if you utilize it in the classroom, I would either skip distinct parts or unbiased have them stare only about 20 to 30 minutes of it.

I am from germany and was introduced to the “My name is Earl” series through an american friend. So I bought the first season from Amazon in the US and was amazed! I really care for the conception that stands slack the series and after a few episodes you rep to know and admire the characters, too!
The second season shows more background information to the characters and goes deeper into Earl Hickey’s universe. I esteem it! Bag both available seasons together, it is a must-have, when you esteem outstanding comedy!

“The Maltese Falcon” (1941) – One of the earliest examples of the style that became known as Film Noir, John Huston’s crime classic has been described as the finest detective film ever made, and certainly deserves the title! The second teaming of the director and star (”High Sierra” had been released earlier that year), both films had a celebrated history, as George Raft ‘passed’ on both properties (not wanting to work with an ‘untested’ director), and the films would open Bogie into the superstardom that had eluded him in the 30s.
Dashiell Hammett’s epic of amoral detective Sam Spade, the abolish of his partner, and the offbeat collection of characters in pursuit of a fantastic, jewel-encrusted statue, had been filmed twice by WB in the thirties, but never truly captured the ‘flavor’ of the original. Huston, with his gawk for characterization, and employ of light and shadow, not only got it ‘right’, but popularized a original genre, of beat-up, world-weary anti-heroes with their bear ‘codes of honor’, duplicitous women, and endings where things seldom extinguish ‘happily ever after’. While Film Noir wouldn’t become a film staple until after WWII, it seldom got better than this!

I could say Noteworthy more, but this 3-Disc collection says it FAR better…it is, simply, a MUST Acquire!
“Across the Pacific” (1942) – The next teaming of Huston and Bogie may be one of the most appetizing espionage comedy/dramas of WWII, made even more curious by the film’s support story; Huston, who wanted, desperately, to bag into WWII, managed to leave for the war after writing Bogie into ‘certain-death’ film climax, without a resolution! While the director and star belief it was hilarious, awful Vincent Sherman, called in to enact the film, probably lost a lot of sleep tying everything up!
Re-teaming the star with “Falcon” co-stars Mary Astor and Sydney Greenstreet (who are both safe), the film, despite clear flaws, is eminently ‘watchable’, and remains one of Bogie’s most well-liked films.
“Action in the North Atlantic” (1943) – One of WB’s best wartime action/adventure films, Lloyd Bacon’s tribute to the merchant marine is a edifying ensemble allotment, with enormous acting compensating for distinct stereotypes. Bogie isn’t the focus of the memoir, but a team player, on a ship commanded by Raymond Massey (in one of his warmest, most ingratiating portrayals) . This film has a well-known back-story, as well; watching their stunt men performing a dive off a burning ship, Bogie and Massey, both a bit intoxicated (being ‘off-duty’), started making bets on which stunt-man was braver…one thing led to another, until the stars, themselves, made the dive (which must have driven Jack Warner into apoplexy!)
“All Through the Night” (1942) – Humphrey Bogart made few comedies (mostly later in his career), but this ‘Damon Runyon-Types vs. the Nazis’, filmed unprejudiced after “Falcon”, is breezy fun, if totally ghastly! The sage of gambler/promoter Bogie, investigating (for his mother!) odd goings-on, getting framed for slay, and discovering a Nazi cell in Manhattan with horrible intentions, is so loaded with droll one-liners that you never miss the lack of logic.
Supported by a cast of Large amusing actors (including William Demarest, Frank McHugh, Jackie Gleason, and Phil Silvers), hiss-able villains (headed by Conrad Veidt and Peter Lorre, who would re-team with Bogie in “Casablanca”), and delicate Kaaren Verne (the future Mrs. Peter Lorre) for romance, “All Through the Night” may not be a classic, but is Amazing fun!
“Passage to Marseille” (1944) – After the immense success of “Casablanca”, WB attempted to obtain similar vehicles for Bogie, to attempt to recapture the magic. Some would work very well (”To Have and Have Not”) ; most didn’t. This was one of the misfires, but it does offer “Casablanca” co-stars Claude Rains, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre, and Helmut Dantine, in a memoir of Devil’s Island escapees, dealing with Vichy plots, finding their ’souls’, and rejoining the fight to rid France of the Nazis. Atmospheric, if occasionally slow-moving, the film is not among Bogie’s best, but is certainly watchable, and has WB’s distinctive ‘gloss’…
Quite a collection!
Re-releasing common titles on DVD is par-for-course for most labels. Only two arrive encourage for another release when the reason is damned capable…WB and Criterion. Unlike the other studios, only these two keep the second dip for something far better, and this worthy SIGNATURE COLLECTION VOLUME TWO contains four new-to-DVD releases, looking SENSATIONAL, but also a re-visit to THE MALTESE FALCON, which along with CASABLANCA and SIERRA MADRE, represents the very best of the world’s most beloved and timeless movie actor.
I picked up my copy today, and all I can say is WOWEE!
The recent FALCON DVD looked very obedient. It was released when WB didn’t seem to care about their older films, and the extras were paltry and the quality was marvelous but not astronomical.
The fresh FALCON carries the excellence that has been the hallmark of the WB Special Editions that have become the industry standard against which others are measured. Tons of titanic original extra features, and the two previous film versions of the Hammett recent, both of which are fodder compared to the Bogart version, which looks and sounds SO Powerful BETTER here.
Best of all, the signature collection has taken pity on our shelving, and is packaged in sturdy slim-cases.

Until the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy this movie was the most complex fantasy ever attempted. In some ways the anecdote does ramble, but the intricate elements are woven together so coherently that they smoothly fit into the quest undertaken by the necessary characters.
Virginia and Tony Lewis (Kimberly Williams and John Larroquette) live in a Current York apartment. One day a dog enters Virginia’s life. However, the dog is not impartial any ordinary dog, but Prince Wendell (Daniel Lapaine) changed into a dog by an rank Queen (Dianne Wiest) . Soon trolls enter the account along with magic, and the chronicle begins.
Virginia and Tony go through a magic mirror into the land of the nine kingdoms (with Modern York being the 10th kingdom. It takes Virginia and Tony minute time to realize that the world they have entered has very different rules from their enjoy. Their goal is to catch a mirror that will allow them to move befriend to their bear world, and the quest for the mirror forms the heart of the record.

Along the arrangement both Virginia and Tony, but most especially Virginia, are on a voyage of discovery about themselves. Through a series of vignettes they learn the history of the nine kingdoms, and learn there are mysteries related to that history. One of the most startling revelations is that Virginia and Tony are somehow keen in the nine kingdoms, but it’s not until we score well into the movie that we understand the nature of their involvement.
The place is generally coherent and I had slight concern keeping track of the parallel stories. I admit that there were a few things that confused me when I watched the myth in its unusual television debut, but my confusion was cleared up by watching the DVD version without the commercials and all in one 7+ hour sitting.
The acting talent in this movie is phenomenal. Rutger Hauer plays the Queen’s woodsman, with his bear poignant epic. Warwick Davis is Acorn, a criminal with a tongue-in-cheek character. Ed O’Neil is perfect as Savor the Troll King. Scott Cohen as Wolf took a runt getting stale to, but once I realized how he fit into the memoir I enjoyed his antics and characterization. Camryn Manheim makes an enchanting Snow White. Ann-Margret brings class to Queen Cinderella. This list is but a fragment of the cast possible by the yarn nature of this movie.

The memoir is an adult fairy memoir. There is violence in the movie as well as a number of intense scenes that are likely contaminated for children below the age of 7 or 8. However, for everyone else this movie is fun and complicated. If you indulge in fantasy, and you can be open-minded about how fantasy is approached, this movie could be perfect for you.
This movie was so incredibly well done. The cast was friendly, the special effects were so astounding, the settings were magical and stunning. I’m a 13-yr-old girl, and this movie captured my soul and left me craving for more. Wolf, played by Scott Cohen, was the best allotment of the entire movie. He had class, was able to pull of a truly beautiful piece of a half man half wolf. Not to mention that he was so radiant. The fable takes set in the 9 kingdoms, you’ll have to eye it to understand that better, formed by Cinderella, Snow White and Shrimp Red Riding Hood. Virginia, a girl from Manhatten, is pulled into the kingdoms by traveling mirrors and is sent on a lunge with her father, Wolf, and a dog that can talk ( I know it sounds cheesy but you have to scrutinize it, really ) . Throughout the scuttle their goal is to retrieve the mirror so they can return to Original York, but as they near closer to the mirror it becomes harder to derive. They have to enter contests and raise money to secure a select on the mirror, but all the while a magical appreciate fable unfolds between Wolf and Virginia, making it more complicated. The movie progresses and mystery, magic, fantasy, fancy, humor and more are woven together to design one of the best movies I myself have ever seen. If you retract one movie at this dwelling, build it this one, you’ll never regret it.

I like the design they note the legend of “Mute Night” but this version was created prior to historians finding modern information regarding the composing of the carol. If they would update the narration to consider the fact that the words for “Stille Nacht” were written in 1816 and the music added in 1818, it would remove away the fairytale aspect of the chronicle. The segment called “Calm Night, World War II, 1944″ is very well done – edifying fable and very respectable actors. You may need some hankies before you bag to the demolish of the memoir. “Holiday Fest in Austria” is a nice extra feature.

I was beginning to deem that I would be expressionless and buried before Sony had all eleven seasons of Married With Children out(knock on wood that I create it to October) . We fans have had a long, long swagger getting here. Star Scurry came and went in all it’s incarnations. Jessica started later and got her tenth season out prior to this (Execute She Wrote) . So I am contented to be able to complete the collection with some of the best shows they did, even tho Fox had dumped them in spirit long before this and the note was beginning to indicate it’s age. The “Al goes to Hell” episode with Robert Englund alone is worth the whole season. So to all of us who have been in the “Hell-evator, going down!”, lo these many years…we finally have our floor in notice and we will at long last be in Married With Children Heaven with Buck.
It’s about time that Sony released this 1996-97 Season of the Bundy’s out on DVD since I’ve been waiting for the longest time to have the Bundy’s final season on DVD, especially since Sony already has the first 10 seasons of the Bundy’s on DVD along with the fact that the Bundy’s 11th Season was one of my approved seasons and the season when I believe the sexy, but airheaded Kelly(Christina Applegate) was looking her best along with the fact that this was the point to that made Christina Applegate a star and very common to this very day.

The Bundy’s Eleventh Season also has some of its best episodes like when Kelly gets an acting gig as a princess on a kids explain that eventually ends up faltering when Kelly becomes snotty and too controlling.
Another is the episode when the lowlife perverted Al(Edward O’Neill) gets to be on the point to COPS riding along with Chicago P.D. and Kelly gets a commercial gig as the Virgin Olive Oil girl when FAMILY TIES Tina Yothers does a cameo appearance.

Another is the episode where the Bundys grasp a vacation to Branson, Missouri and Kelly and Peg do a singing gig as The Juggs to back get ends meet with a special cameo appearance by country western singer(Tammy Wynette), whom died 2 years later in actual life.
Another is the Series Finale episode when Kelly is about to acquire married and travel out of the Bundys house and then finds out on her wedding day that her fiancee was being unfaithful to her all along and ends up calling off the wedding leaving us no accurate explanation on whether Kelly collected moved out or stayed living at home or what, but chances are Kelly was quiet living at home after the misfortune on her wedding day.
However I was kind of surprised that MARRIED WITH CHILDREN lasted this long and I’m definite it was time for the Bundy’s to disappear on and say goodbye since this point to was getting burned out and the Bundy’s were obviously getting tired, especially Christina Applegate(Kelly) and Edward O’Neill(Al) .
This season also takes me succor to memory lane to when FOX had temporarily moved this present to Saturday nights in September of 1996 showing the Bundy’s after COPS & AMERICA’S MOST WANTED, but was eventually moved encourage to Sundays, due to scheduling conflicts and then the Bundys were moved to Mondays in January of 1997 before this shows cancellation in the Spring of 1997 after FOX had the Bundy’s Series Finale episode in May of 1997, but the one thing I cant understand is why didn’t sony have the series finale episode on this DVD.
In the meantime, I can hardly wait till they finally release the Bundy’s 11th Season on DVD this Plunge, which is scheduled to be released on Tuesday October 13th, 2009. Yipee!
