Colts: The Complete History is a tale of two cities. The first disc is a 65-minute history of the team in Baltimore, from its woeful start in the 1950s to the building of a powerhouse led by coach Weeb Ewbank, Alan Ameche, and ninth-round draft pick Johnny Unitas. They went on to the 1958 championship, later dubbed “the greatest game ever played,” and were embraced by the blu-collar town. Later years included Super Bowl III under new coach Don Shula, the last-minute thrills of Super Bowl V, Joe Thomas’s subsequnt dismantling of the team that led to Unitas’ final game in Baltimore, the dawning of the Bert Jones and Ted Marchibroda era, and, on March 28, 1984, the Mayflower vans that departed for Indianapolis. Among the interviewees are WR Raymond Berry, DT Art Donovan, DE Gino Marchetti, coach Don Shula, RB Lenny Moore, and executive Ernie Accorsi. Filling out disc 1 are 54 minutes of featurettes and an hourlong “Greatest Games” spotlight on the 1958 championship.

The 45-minute history on disc 2 focuses on the Colts’ 1984 welcome to Indianapolis and the subsequnt development of the team. Again starting with some lean years, the Colts traded for Eric Dickerson and drafted Jeff George, Steve Emtman, and Marshall Faulk. After a run to the 1995 AFC Championship game, the arrival of superstars Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and Edgerrin James as well as coach Tony Dungy helped the Colts battle the Steelers in the January 2006 playoffs. Interviewees include Marchibroda, Jim Harbaugh, and Jim Irsay, the son of the team’s late owner, Robert Irsay, but none of the current players. The 140 minutes of bonus features include the 2003 “Monday Night Miracle” when Dungy returned to Tampa Bay, the 2005 Game of the Week in which Manning and Harrison made history, an interview with Manning, and shorter pieces on coach Jim Mora (discussing his infamous meltdowns), and Dwight Freeney. –David Horiuchi

Rita Hayworth really was a screen goddess in the late 1940s–so why not cast her as Terpsichore, the goddess of dance? That’s the premise of this splashy Technicolor musical, which borrows some devices (and cast members) from Here Comes Mr. Jordan. Rita descends to earth to inject authenticity into a Broadway show about Terpsichore, posing as an actress and turning the head of impresario Larry Parks (then in the brief moment between his Jolson Story smash and his blacklisting). This leads to an overblown, pretentious out-of-town tryout, an amusing sequnce that predicts the highbrow disaster in The Band Wagon. In general, this film is funnier than its reputation, although it doesn’t add up to anything and the song score is tepid (with one delightfully weird number where Rita considers bigamy with Parks and dancer Marc Platt). And Rita? Very creamy looking in a series of lavish gowns–and hardly down to earth. –Robert Horton

Gordy (David Arqutte of the Scream movies) and Sean (Scott Caan of Varsity Blus) are rabid fans of professional wrestling–in particular, white trash champion Jimmy King (Oliver Platt, Funny Bones, Flatliners). But the show’s producer Titus Sinclair (Joe Pantoliano, The Matrix) decides it’s time for King to lose his crown and allows Diamond Dallas Page (playing himself) and assorted cronies to tromp all over the fallen King. Crestfallen, Gordy and Sean track King down to convince him to take another shot at the big time. Although in the process they discover that King may not be the man they thought he was, their faith never falters. With the training assistance of an old-school wrestler (Martin Landau), they get King back into the ring to face the triple steel cage. Ready to Rumble is clearly aimed at wrestling fans, who will doubtless enjoy numerous professional wrestlers playing themselves, including Goldberg and Sting, as well as the scantily clad Nitro Girls. The movie isn’t exactly Shakespeare, but it has a raffish, affable charm. The jokes stick to the basics, such as people being kicked in the groin and nuns singing Van Halen’s “Running with the Devil” with their crystalline soprano voices. And what’s wrong with that? As a comedy team, Arqutte and Caan aren’t Abbott and Costello–they’re not even Bill and Ted–but they give it their all and you may find them surprisingly engaging. –Bret Fetzer

Owing a major debt to Alien and its cinematic spawn, Pitch Black is a guilty pleasure that surpasses expectations. As he did with The Arrival, director David Twohy revitalizes a derivative story, allowing you to forgive its flaws and submit to its visceral thrills. Under casual scrutiny, the plot’s logic crumbles like a stale cookie, but it’s definitely fun while it lasts.

A spaceship crashes on a desert planet scorched under three suns. The mostly doomed survivors include a resourceful captain (Radha Mitchell), a drug-addled cop (Cole Hauser), and a deadly prisoner (Vin Diesel) who quickly escapes. These clashing personalities discover that the planet is plunging into the darkness of an extended eclipse, and it’s populated by hordes of ravenous, razor-fanged beasties that only come out at night. The body count rises, and Pitch Black settles into familiar sci-fi territory.

What sets the movie apart is Twohy’s developing visual style, suggesting that this veteran of B-movie schlock may advance to the big leagus. Like the makers of The Blair Witch Project, Twohy understands the frightening power of suggestion; his hungry monsters are better heard than seen (although once seen, they’re chillingly effective), and Pitch Black gets full valu from moments of genuine panic. Best of all, Twohy’s got a well-matched cast, with Mitchell (so memorable with Ally Sheedy in High Art) and Diesel (Pvt. Caparzo from Saving Private Ryan) being the standouts. The latter makes the most of his muscle-man role, and his character’s development is one more reason this movie works better than it should. –Jeff Shannon
