While not ranking up there with the ‘classic’ Charlie Brown titles, this 1972 special is unexcited very palatable.

One name, “Joe Frigid”, will probably lag some memories. Those who grew up in 1972 will remember the Snoopy as Joe Wintry collectables. Well he makes his TV premier here.

This is Charles Schulz’s satire on politics with Lucy running the campaign, menacing voters to vote for her brother Linus, getting Linus to perform empty campaign promises. Remember, this was the year of Richard Nixon.

This originally aired as “You’re Elected, Charlie Brown”, and upright after its broadcast the producers realized the folly of the title and posthaste inserted “Not” for all re-broadcasts. The theme song lyrics do not have the “Not” in them. Unfortunately this edit must have been done to the master negative as this ‘remastered’ version has the revised title. But you can procure a view of the unusual title in the bonus material.

The second offering is 2006’s “He’s A Bully, Charlie Brown”. While I generally don’t like the later Peanuts Specials, this one has the spirit and feel of the earlier shows. I catch it very delectable and forgot fair how original it is. At summer camp, a marble hustler plays all of the beginner kids and wins their marbles. With the coaching of Snoopy, Charlie Brown comes to the rescue. Memorable moments are with Marci teasing Peppermint Patty on the phone by pretending “Chuck” is romancing her.

There is also a 10 itsy-bitsy “Making Of’ documentary” It is absorbing tosee the assure actors as they are today. The background material about the chronicle line is informative. Some material seems to be repeated from other Peanuts DVDs.

The shaded thing is how small is included here! A single DVD should believe 6 to 8 half hour shows. But here we procure only 2! THIS DVD RUNS ONLY AN HOUR even with the bonus material. 1969’s “It Was A Short Summer, Charlie Brown” would have been a expedient follow-up to the Summer Camp anecdote. My only gripe is not of the Schulz’s library, but of the reproduction team who dispenses redigitized episodes on dvd with only two or three 24 limited shows on a disc! AND the fee for such is over the top charge.

Again, it is American. It is classic style, too.

This is NOT the current version!!! I’m very disappointed that Amazon.com didn’t whine this information. Scenes are missing and parts are dubbed over. Comical parts are tranquil silly but it’s impartial not the same. I feel duped.

I’m flabbergasted that they place the dumbed-down tv version of this movie on dvd and not the theatrical version. They took scenes out, changed scenes and dubbed dialog to invent this mess of a dvd. Not only that, but the movie looks comical. The aspect ratio they ancient makes the movie scrutinize unique. I was eagerly waiting for this droll, well-done movie to be released on dvd and I am bitterly disappointed at this made-for-tv garbage. This tv version will only appeal to an unsophisticated mass audience.

Attention Warner Home Video: If you are reading this, you need to enlighten a press release in which you apologize for this garbage and then scream that you will release an uncut version of the movie on dvd.

I’ve seen this video countless times. More times, than any other movie. And every time I leer it, it moves me to tears. To experience a worship so suitable and so deep is a miracle and to lose it… it’s beyond me. But to even experience it and observe a peer of it (from this movie) is a wonder enough. The worship epic between rich Harvard hockey-player Oliver Barrett IV (played by Ryan O’Neal) and smart-mouthed Radcliffe gal Jennifer Cavilleri (played by Ali McGraw) is one of those once-in-a-lifetime fancy stories… captured on film. These two star-crossed lovers who are from the opposite ends of the socio-economic ladder overcome all obstacles (disapproving parents, advance poverty and Harvard Law School) to design their esteem work. The only thing going for them was their fancy and devotion to each other. And objective when things were finally looking up… tragedy strikes.

The book written by Eric Segal is even more inviting but to peruse the movie, is impartial as a immense experience. It’s not honest a tearjerker! It’s truly a masterpiece! I Fancy THIS MOVIE! It’s my ALL TIME celebrated movie.

Does anyone know if they concept to release this on DVD?

I have seen it countless times since if first came out in 1970 and was so thrilled to finally collect my personal video of it this Christmas.

Modern British assassinate mysteries seem never to be about serial killers or destroy for profit. They are astute enough to realize that murderers who don’t know their victims well compose for anorexic, underwritten narratives. So they write sordid mysteries, overloaded with character behavior, where every person fervent is nursing some panic and incredible secret racy sex, drugs, death, adultery, illegitimacy, and/or homosexuality. “Death in Holy Orders” throws religion, madness, and used history into the mix. Yet British cancel mysteries are known for their class -even, ironically, for being highbrow. They pull it off by casting genuine character actors, allocating a ample amount of time to character development in the construct of dialogue, and giving the suspects at least as worthy attention as the detective. Adam Dalgliesh mysteries follow that formula. They owe their success to advantageous ensemble casts that play every variety of villain and flawed character, in particular, to perfection. Highbrow? Not at all. This is sordid, crude stuff. But done the scheme on the British do it, it’s stylish.

Actor Martin Shaw makes his debut as Adam Dalgliesh in “Death in Holy Orders”. Roy Marsden owned the role from 1983-1998, through 10 adaptations of P.D. James’ books. Which actor one prefers is a matter of personal taste, but I always found Marsden’s Dalgliesh to be neurotic and distastefully self-righteous. Martin Shaw’s Dalgliesh is probably those things, but his interpretation is notably soulful. He tranquil has a kind of salubrious detachment from those around him -for which one character takes him to task, but I gain him more inviting. Director Jonny Campbell has given “Death in Holy Orders” a persistently ominous tone, and doesn’t hesitate to exhaust the ecclesiastical environment to heighten the sense of doom. There are no fewer than 15 suspects in the investigation. Add the multiple victims, and this is quite a big cast. The performances are all safe, but spare no melodrama. Many of these characters are overwrought, perhaps even moreso than is normal for a British mystery. But “Death in Holy Orders” always entertains. Fans of Brit murders and detectives will surely relish it.

The DVD: You have to wait for the Main Menu to appear, which it does after one ad and a short preview. You have the option of watching the film in 2 parts, as it was shown on television. There is a 30-minute featurette entitled “Writers and Places”. It looks as if it was made at least 25 years ago under the title “P.D. James on the Perilous Edge”. In this cramped documentary, author P.D. James talks about the notable role that status plays in detective writing. Using several of her maintain novels as examples, she describes how her stories evolve from their settings and how plot is faded to emphasize the panic of the crime. It’s not a abominable documentary, but it is a puny repetitive. It doesn’t assume a half an hour to collect the point. “Cast/Author Biographies” are text bios and include notable filmographies.

For the reviewer who believes that no one in America has heard of Martin Shaw, guess again. For me, his best role is Chauvelin in the newest recreation of the Scarlet Pimpernel (1995) . As a villian he was complicated, ’soulful’ but murderous. Too terrible the lead character in that production was a disappointment or it might have done better here. “Rhodes” was well acted but a one-time behold and grand of Shaw’s other work is not available here. So as a fan of both Shaw and Marsden’s Dalgliesh, I was alive to to gawk Shaw in this role. He was agreeable. As another reviewer said he is a stamp modern character, but a bit more tragic (and complicated, as always) . Marsden, I’m obvious, is tired of twenty years in the role and novel interpretations of Poirot or Holmes have only led to better and better characters. Shaw lends another layer to what has been a rather wooden character up to now.

That said, you have to be a fan of PD James to like this one. There are too many characters, each of whom has secrets, crimes and mayhem in their past. I have never been in a ‘closed society’ (as James might call it) where there have been so many demented people outside of an asylum. The state is like Shakespeare – you need a copy of the book next to you in order to follow it. And the next day I regain myself saying ‘Wait a limited, why did he do that? What was her motivation for that? ‘ PD James does not bother about all the strings. Powerful as she denigrates the obsolete ‘butler in the library’ settings, Agatha Christie is collected the queen of kill mysteries. When you fetch to the destroy of one of Christie’s stories you say, ‘How did I miss that clue? ‘, not ‘Wait a minute’.

If you were around to gawk the current Magnum TV series, you already know whats in this. I watched the unique series during my high school years and sitting down and watching the series again reminds me not only of those times, but of how great the demonstrate was.

If you never watched the modern prove, let me unprejudiced say that introducing yourself to Magnum and his pals would be well worth your time. This is the ultimate “buddy” indicate. The dynamic that evolves between the main characters is a rare pleasure to gawk. Some of the episodes (The two parter called “Ivan” jumps to mind… but that will have to wait for later season releases) are particularly well done and have some unbelievable moments.

One of the best elements of the demonstrate is the relationship between Magnum and Higgins. Its the classic love/hate deal with a level of mutual respect that sustains a very droll befriend and forth of gotchas between the two.

Once all the seasons have been released, and you notice that final episode with Magnum walking off into the sunset in his dress whites on the beach with his daughter in hand, you mill most likely wonder three things. Of course, there is the technical side of the DVD. Frankly, I was not too optimistic about the likely quality of the video. I am gratified to relate that the transfer to DVD is unprejudiced about as shipshape as anyone could possibly hope for. I am watching the DVD on a 50″ rear projection LCD TV. So any quality problems with the image would be particularly distinct. Also, my DVD player is an older Toshiba model. No progressive scan or any of the other celebrated quality boost features you regain in newer decks. The bottom line is that there is no reason to be concerned in any draw about the quality of the transfer, it’s top notch.

So purchase the time to introduce yourself to Magnum and his friends, you won’t regret it.

Given the credentials of the people fervent in bringing The Professionals (1966) to the shroud, written and directed by Richard Brooks, who also did The Killers (1946), Key Largo (1948), Elmer Gantry (1967), and In Icy Blood (1967), starring Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, Woody Strode, and Jack Palance (Maintain it….or not!), you would have conception I would have heard about it before now, but I didn’t, and there you go…

Anyway, the film begins with the assemblage of four men by a rich, Texas cattleman named Joe Grant, played by Ralph Bellamy (the musty dude who wasn’t Don Ameche in the John Landis/Eddie Murphy/Dan Aykroyd movie Trading Places), for the purpose of rescuing his young wife Maria, played by the voluptuous Claudia Cardinale, from the clutches of her kidnapper, a Mexican rebel bandit named Jesus Raza (Palance) . Seems Raza has made off with the woman and is now demanding $100,000 for her suited return, an amount Mr. Grant would be willing to pay, except he fears that even after he pays the monies, Raza would smooth distress his wife. As the men approach together with the offer of $10,000 apiece if they’re successful, we learn of their particular talents. First there’s Henry ‘Rico’ Fardan (Marvin), a master tactician and someone who actually knows Raza as they served together in the Mexican revolution, followed by Bill Dolworth (Lancaster), who also served with Fardan and Raza, and is an expert with explosives, Hans Ehrengard (Ryan), whose skills involve horse wrangling, and finally Jake Attractive (Strode), an expert with weapons, specifically guns and the bow and arrow, and also an experienced tracker. Given that Raza has a reliable number of men at his disposal, I’d say maybe conclude to 200, the task would seem highly unlikely, but the men also must deal with first getting to the camp, which involves trekking through the Mexican desert, where temperatures during the day could fry your face off, while the wintry night after the sun drops is nearly enough to freeze your blood, but $10,000 is a lot of money, and the group, being men of honor, did give their word, fully aware of the dangers fervent, and the probability of success.

While the account may not be highly novel, the elements that effect it up work very well to design this a highly luscious movie. Now when I heard Jack Palance was going to be playing a Mexican, I had my doubts as I honest couldn’t contemplate it, but he pulled it off. We didn’t look great of him in the first half, but in the last half his character really came to life, giving us more than unbiased a character motivated by greed, but one driven by his ideology, in doing what he has to to survive and further his cause. The substantial desert scenes throughout the film are really exquisite, giving a incredible backdrop to the myth, providing a realism you unbiased can’t regain shooting on a studio backlot. There were a number of twists and turns within the sage, as very diminutive is as it seems, and while some of it was predictable, this did runt to acquire away from the film. All in all an reliable film, maybe not the quintessential western of Sam Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch (1969), but certainly required viewing for fans of western films and certainly worth looking into for anyone honest enthusiastic in a estimable film in general.

I thoroughly enjoyed viewing The Professionals on DVD, with one exception…during a seduction scene between Lancaster and Cardinale, a shaded band is artificially placed across Cardinale’s chest so that the viewer cannot contemplate her in her topless glory. Wait a second, didn’t I lift this disc? Why is this film being censored in this fashion? Viewers should be notified of this travesty before deciding whether to engage an otherwise worthwhile film.

Agatha Christie’s mysteries changed the genre. With twists, turns and credible watertight plotting her novels divorced themselves from the hackneyed conventions of the genre. Sidney Lumet’s noble film of Christie’s fresh looks proper on this deluxe DVD from Paramount. The rich, gleaming cinematographer of Geoffrey Unsworth (”2001: A Dwelling Odyssey”) looks terrific. Lumet’s assured hand guides the film without hesitation to a truly attractive conclusion. Paramount has remastered the soundtrack for Dolby Digital 5.1 giving the sound a richer feel than previous video editions of the movie. While it doesn’t quite scream the detail one might hear in a heed unique movie, it does a big job of improving an already spacious mystery movie.

Featuring a stellar all cast of Hollywood and London stage and conceal veterans, “Abolish on the Orient Teach” chugs along on the charm of the performers, a solid script by Paul Dehn (”The Explore Who Came in the Frosty”, “Goldfinger”, “Beneath the Planet of the Apes”) and outstanding direction by Sidney Lumet (”The Verdict”, “Deathtrap”, “Network”, “Prince of the City”) . The casting is a bit recent. While Albert Finney probably wouldn’t be most fan’s first choice for Poirot, he gives a splendid performance as Agatha Christie’s detective. I’ve read reviews criticizng Finney’s performance and, while he may not be the “ideal” Poirot his interpretation is recent and works perfectly for this film.

I’m pleasantly surprised that Paramount has sprung for all the extras here. We accept a documentary that can be viewed all at once or by segments. The documentary features interviews with Sidney Lumet, producers John Brabourne, Sean Connery, Jacqueline Bisset, Michael York, Richard Goodwin, writer-director Nicholas Meyer (”Star Mosey II: The Wrath of Kahn”, The Seven Percent Solution) and the grandson of Agatha Christie discussing the hard road to producing the film. Evidently, Christie reluctantly agreed to give the rights to the film to the producers at first but was won over when she found out that producer Brabourne had worked on “Tales of Beatrix Potter”. Lumet comments on the disaster in having Finney play Poirot as he was too young for the role (Alec Guinness and Paul Scofield were Lumet’s first and second choices) . The marvels of design up helped sell Finney in the role and the fact that he played against audience expectations worked for him in the role. Lumet recounts a droll anecdote where the cast got together to read the script together the first time couldn’t hear the cast. Why? Because the stage actors were in alarm of the theater actors and vice versa. Lumet’s challenge was honing an acting style that was consistent between all the very different performers. “Kill” is one of those few mysteries that live up to its potential despite powerful odds against it doing so. It’s positive that the cast respect and worship Lumet-how else to clarify Connery, Bisset and York agreeing to appear in a documentary on the making of the film for the DVD? There’s also a discussion of the accurate life inspiration for portion of the story-the Lindbergh kidnapping. Another kindly documentary by the talented Laurent Bouzereau, his work has become the standard against which all other writer/producer/directors of extras on DVDs should be measured. His work here as on “Duel”, “E.T.” and other DVDs continues the tradition of digging up the past to voice those of us who couldn’t possibly have been there.

“Agatha Christie: A Portrait” gives us insight into the mysterious life of the elusive novelist. We’re also told almost as remarkable about her most eminent creation Poirot who appears almost as elusive as the novelist herself. This eight slight featurette puts a human face on a grand mystery novelist who helped reinvent the genre. We also pick up the unusual theatrical trailer which demonstrates how grand work went into restoring and transferring this beautifully shot film. Smudged with loads of analog blemishes, the comparison between the trailer and the film indicates the substantial work that went into improving this film for DVD. There’s no commentary track but Lumet’s insightful observations in the documentary more than originate up for the lack of such a track.

Beautifully restored with enhanced sound, “Destroy on the Orient Swear” probably didn’t watch this capable when it showed in theaters in 1974. The outstanding international cast of shroud and stage veterans along with Dehn’s lively adaptation and Lumet’s assured direction makes “Cancel” one of the best films made from one of Christie’s convoluted mystery novels. It’s a joy to spy.

…but turn on the closed captioning, because as one reviewer pointed out Albert Finney’s heavy accent and often garbled speech could try anyone’s comprehension, not to mention patience. But Finney is level-headed splendid, though he falls short of David Suchet, who is the quintessential Hercule Poirot.

But enough about that. They rarely accomplish films this lavishly racy anymore. “Execute on the Orient Say” is visually striking to say the least; the Orient Divulge and its various position pieces are magnificently rendered, and at no puny expense either. The all-star cast is impressive; from Lauren Bacall’s scene-stealing American chatterbox to Anthony Perkins’ disturbing, PSYCHO-reminiscent secretary, the cast list adds emphasis to the plan of the house-party whodunit. The film is, essentially, a Hollywood party on a mountainous scale.

Although the film is slothful at times and the unraveling of Agatha Christie’s labyrinthine position doesn’t work as well on the camouflage as it does on paper, this is aloof vast fun, the perfect Saturday night movie for viewers who like a dose of wit and intelligence with their entertainment.

This movie was an unexpected pleasure and really fun to recognize!

Swayze does a astronomical job as Quartermaine & Alison Doody is incredible as the female lead. There are never annoying moments of disgusted “They’d never do that”, or ridiculous temple-of-doom type comedy lines. The screenplay and set were terrific, the adventure was compelling, and the entire movie was heartwarming. Villains were even well-wrought. Scenery was breathtaking.

Well done, highly recommended, and perfect for family viewing on a Sunday afternoon or early Saturday evening.

Clearly, King Solomon’s Mines is made for television. That’s its main weakness. The movie, probably a miniseries, is drawn out to absorb nearly 3 hours. It’s never wearisome but it lacks the cleverness and frequent action of a movie like Raiders of the Lost Ark, the gold standard for such adventure yarns. The characters and site are inviting enough to retain you viewing. Some of the characters like the gross African king and his witch doctor are surprisingly very fine, if only minor roles. Patrick Swayze puts in a credible performance as do most of the supporting cast. The cinematography is generally very well done and some of the scenery is contemplate popping. A diminutive more budget and we might have actually gotten a decent tour of the mine filled with traps, love, twists, turns, and wonderous sights. Alas, that’s not really the payoff here. It’s about the characters on the jog, not the jog itself.

A light heart and an inaugurate mind are mandantory in enjoying this Bush satire. It throws you into an glum place. You procure yourself wondering if it’s ok to laugh at some of the jokes. At the demolish, you come by that, indeed, you can. It’s good to stir fun at the president. And also quite therapeutic.

This is an over the top cartoon satire of George Bush, Condi Rice, Dick Cheney, and their cohorts when they were children. It can be amusing, ghastly, and campy at times, but worth a look-see. Especially inspect for the episode with Li’l Tony Blair, and count all of the…er…shall we say…contented references. The exhibit is a hoot.

The film paints an appropriately bleak describe of what it was like for a woman in those days. Georgiana is a magnificent, shimmering, and charming young woman whose only hope in life is that she happens to marry someone who loves her and will treat her like a human being. A lot of people consider of British period drama as stuffy and stupid, a reputation it occasionally does something to deserve, but history is anything but listless, and if you were under the impression that the past was a region of strong factual values and gay marriages that has given blueprint to our new unsuitable society fat of single parents and extramarital affairs, deem again. Reflect the subject of the life of Georgiana Spenser Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (Keira Knightley) .

She then finds herself living in a forced menage a trois (subtle humour found in the three of them eating soundless breakfasts together) . Understandably, she finds herself increasingly drawn to Grey.

The dramatic core of “The Duchess” is an examination of the miniature social prospects for women in this period (though, as an aside, one imagines a big many dreadful women from this period would gladly enter a loveless marriage to live like Georgiana does), and their runt lawful rights. Both Bess and Georgiana face adulterous husbands who bear over them the prospect of never seeing their children again as a tag of leaving; getting her children attend is, indeed, Bess’s motive for embarking on her affair with the Duke, who, as a mighty lord, is easily able to finagle it. Georgiana, likewise, initially decides to resolve freedom over her daughters, but cannot. The Duke, for his fragment, is a controlling fellow, raised in a very patriarchal worldview; Fiennes expertly shows his emotional straitjacketing, which at curious moments effect him mildly sympathetic, though he mostly is not, particularly at the belief of his long-desired son.
