It can be argued that this collection of 9 bewitching shorts based on the world of The Matrix was as anticipated as Reloaded. I, for one, was incredibly intrigued unbiased by the conception. I asked myself “could any movie actually pull this off? ” The Animatrix answers my examine. The world that The Wachowski Brothers have created truly is the Star Wars of this generation. It is a cutural phenomena, and the quality of the 9 shorts that comprise The Animatrix reveal the impact of The Matrix. Here’s a review of each short:

1) Final Flight Of the Osiris-This is the only short film to be done in 3-D. It was done, in fact, by the team unhurried the 3-D movie Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. It looks mammoth and incredibly realistic. The narrative directly relates to the events in Reloaded. A huge plan to kick off this collection because it is the most familiar in style and feel.

Probably my approved of all the shorts story-wise, because it gave me chills and also made me reflect diagram too considerable about the possibilities it presents. 4) Kid’s Story-Another myth that directly relates to something alluded to in Reloaded. Remember the annoying kid Neo encountered in Zion who always followed him everywhere? This is your chance to peer what that was really about.

5) Program-This short deals with the training process people who have been freed must go through. It has absoutely breathtaking animation, and is the most “anime” of the 9.

6) World Record-This sage shows the possibilities of being “plugged-in.” Assume that the only contrivance someone can be freed is by taking the red pill? Glimpse this. The most gripping and inventive yarn as far as I’m concerned, coupled with a new style of animation.

7) Beyond-This short deals with how the machines handled glitches in the system. It has beautiful animation, with vivid colors and a thoroughly Japanese explore.

A Detective Story-Remember Trinity’s legendary hacker state, alluded to in the first movie? This is the whole yarn. This one has a very modern style that I deem fit the feel of the epic well, and it’s nice to contemplate Trinity when she was mild the baddest hacker on the block.

9) Matriculated-Can the machines be convinced to join the human side? After all, if humans were batteries and if machines have A.I., doesn’t that form both man and machine connected in some method? This last short, with the best-looking animation out of the 9, answers those questions. Impartial as The Second Renaissance will do you feel for man, this one will gain you feel for the other side.

Overall, I’d say The Animatrix succeeded what it position out to do. This was never meant to be enjoyed on the same level as the movies, it was meant to give everyone a further belief of what The Matrix is and provide a more detailed backstory to complement the movies. It is sizable to peer how the animators do sometimes recreate such effects as bullet-time. It comes very very end to being as radiant and visually glorious as the movies themselves. The stories are a minute black, but they also kind of have to be. The root of why The Matrix is so well-liked is because there is nothing as painful for humans to glimpse than well, ourselves. The Matrix is spectacular and impossible, and at the same time the emotional impact of these 9 shorts, as well as the movies, is what really keeps the audience watching.

As for the DVD itself, the menus are at once icy and a minute bit overdone (navigating them can be a small irregular the first time you pop it into your DVD player) . There are few extras but nothing worship, although the commentaries included on The Second Renaissance 1 and 2, Program, Beyond from the creators offer insight into the stories as well as the conceptual process (don’t disaster they are subtitled in English) .

Overall, if you are a fan of the movie, or of animation, you owe it to yourself to check The Animatrix out. The stories are vast, the animation is both varied and aesthetic, and the whole thing is, quite simply, cold. In a word: whoa.

Okay, so this is a nice addition to the Matrix canon, and does give us a lot of aid legend to the events that happen in the live action films.

The stories are mostly absorbing, though a couple are as repulsive and troubling as possible. If you are not the kind of person that enjoys bodies being mutilated and people being killed cruelly by robots, this might not be for you. Also, if you don’t like the Matrix films, this is not for you. In fact, why are you even reading this?

The animation is titanic, the sound is obedient, and overall the dvd is worthwhile. If you savor really wild animation and special effects, you will certainly like this.

HOWEVER – fair because this is inspiring does NOT mean that this is child appropriate. It is not. It is completely rank (IMO) for children under the age of 12. It is very violent and contains images that are FAR too incomprehensible for young children, not to mention R rated language. Elegant for adults and teenagers customary enough to know the inequity between reality and movies, simply not appropriate for children.

Although awareness of this film is rather minimal today, it deservedly won an Academy Award in 1948 as Best Foreign Film.

Rather than sickingly sweet, as so many films with a religious motif tend to be (e.g. “Brother Sun, Sister Moon”), this one has a grit, irony, and wry humor that holds up under repeated showings. If you liked “A Man For All Seasons,” there is a profitable chance you will like this inconvenience, since it shares a kindred spirit.

Any caveats? Yes, several. It is filmed in shadowy and white, and the indicate quality leaves considerable to be desired. There are lots of scratches and and other defects that acquire continued watching something of a challenge. The sound quality also leaves grand to be desired. My greatest hope is that some day we will view a digitally restored DVD edifying of the outstanding relate of this powerful film. No scratches, this is a brilliantly restored elegant copy! Ignore the caveats from other reviews since they relate of the former VHS copy. I cannot gather any reference online to the restoration but it is radiant, we unbiased watched it. We watched it from Netflix, same conceal. English subtitles only– a French class!

I’m not normally a tremendous fan of collections or boxed sets … preferring to capture each feature individually. Many times a collection has one or two superior titles and the rest is filler.

So why am I going against the grain here and giving this a well-behaved rating? Especially since I haven’t seen “The Golden Years” yet?

Because two of the included features are worth the note of the station. “The Stand” is arguably the best SK fresh and probably one of the closest (to the current) transfers to the TV hide. The set hinges on a biological warfare mishap in which most of the human urge is wiped out by “Captain Trips”, a.k.a. the superflu. In the aftermath, two groups earn, one following Mother Abigail as the disciples of the faithful; and one group following the “Walking Dude” as a representative of the darker powers (hell is never mentioned although the parallel is insensible enough) . Character development is well done, although not as complete as in the unusual (go figure) and is primarily restricted to Mother Abigail’s group. It is, however, more than we usually win in a fresh to movie transfer. The chronicle, while four hours long, needs every diminutive to guide us on what makes each person tick … and it does this extremely well. Dread scenes, Stephan King style, are abundantly exhibit and are well done cinematically. King has a gift of taking ordinary circumstances and twisting them into uncommon, bad nightmares.

The second film, “The Langoliers”, is cast in more of a sci-fi vein; albeit with the usual SK treatment of uncovering the darker side of human nature. The account revolves around a typical airline flight from Los Angels to Boston which literally flies `out of time’ and `loses’ everyone who was not asleep at the time of the event. Salubrious thing there was a pilot napping as a passenger, eh?

What happens to the light in a room when you turn off the switch? This movie explores that seek information from. What DOES happen to the past? According to one of the character’s father (Craig Toomey), it is eaten by the langoliers …. Beings which like the slothful and useless in the world. As the plane flies along and eventually lands, we notice that the wander of the past winds down and eventually stops. Matches don’t light or will only fizzle, fuel does not burn and beer is flat straight out of the bottle. Craig was always threatened by his “go getter” of a father that sluggish, useless boys are eaten by the langoliers. Now the threat comes to life for the passengers from the plane as the munching sound gets closer and closer. Again, this is a very enthralling film well worth watching.

Going by the reviews of others, “The Golden Years” falls flat. Haven’t seen this one for myself, so I’ll have to pass on judgement. Read the other reviews and do your occupy determination.

Bottom line is that for a reasonable note, there are at least two SK winners – and possibly a third (reviews are, after all, impartial opinions) . I would say that this is a worthwhile prefer and will provide hours of entertainment.

As word to the wise – “The Langoliers” is probably not a movie for younger kids unless you want to pause up with them for several sleepless nights. Younger ones probably won’t understand “The Stand”, but some of the scenes may shock and dread them. You might want to idea these yourself first before letting your kids sit in on the viewing.

I Treasure The Stand! It’s about time they started making the DVD again. The Langoliers is a salubrious movie too. I didn’t care too great for Golden Years, it was okay though. This station is a very ample value though! The Langoliers is on one disk, The Stand is on two disks (considerable better than the 4 VHS tapes it took), and Golden Years is on two disks. I highly recommend this area, especially for Stephen King fans!

This documentary (formerly entitled “Rebellion”) can be plan of as an epitaph, public disclosure, and personal inch revealing the truth about dissident and obsolete KGB & FSB agent Alexander “Sasha” Litvinenko’s (1962 to Nov. 2006) cancel in London, England. (The FSB is the post-communism KGB.)

Thus, there are long sessions of Litvinenko being interviewed (before he was killed) by investigative journalist Andrei Nekrasov (who is also the director of this film and Litvinenko’s friend) .

It expands into a scathing indictment of unique Russia’s political environment and national character using not only interviews but archival footage. Thus, there are stories of terrorism, slavery, blackmail, abductions, imprisonment, and as-sas-sin-ation.

This film’s structure is a bit ramshackle and its final argument is somewhat dubious, but it does an good job of presenting its case. One might ask if this documentary is biased (since the director is Litvinenko’s friend.) Perhaps. But what I found was a proper example of level headed, journalistic investigation.

Those who appear in this documentary (the “protagonists”) are listed in the raze credits. There are eighteen names. The list begins with Litvinenko, his wife, father, and ends with Vladimir Putin, “President of Russia.” Some people preferred that their name not be shown in the waste credits.

I would recommend before watching this documentary that you read a brief biography of Litvinenko. As well, be positive to turn on the English subtitles (unless you understand Russian) .

Finally, the DVD itself (the one released in 2008) is perfect in recount and sound quality. It has two extras.

In conclusion, this is a riveting documentary that attempts to reply the question:

I really enjoyed all the fascinating episodes, and the special features and menu made the DVD even more fun. If you like Kirby or relish japanese animation, this DVD is perfect for all the family!

After reading the Modern York Times article about the restoration process for Yellow Submarine, I had high hopes for this DVD. I was not disappointed.

The color saturation is sumptuous. There are some imperfections, but on the whole this is a first class restoration. If you want savor the restoration, behold at the new theatrical trailer or the “making of” documentary extras.

The re-mastered audio brings unique complexity and detail to familiar Beatle material (even on my strictly middlebrow home entertainment system) . The opening a cappella chorus of “Nowhere Man” sounded like it was recorded yesterday.

For a generation that has not seen this film, Yellow Submarine is a perfect time capsule for 60’s psychedelic era. The film begins in under the sea in Pepperland, an idyllic musical community, which is attacked by the music-hating Blue Meanies. “Young Fred” manages to run the attack in the Yellow Submarine, which takes him to England. He recruits the Beatles to return with him to Pepperland to join the battle between the forces of order (the Blue Meanies) and the forces of creativity and appreciate. The location is aesthetic distinguished as hokey as it sounds, but it is merely a vehicle for the music, humor, surrealism, artistic and social sensibilities of the psychedelic 60’s. And it is there that the movie emphatically succeeds.

The animation is certainly not as sophisticated as some more current efforts, but it stands up remarkably well. There was a lot of revolutionary (for the 60’s) integration of animation and live action. The colors are aesthetic. Visually, this is peaceful a very piquant film.

If you don’t like the Beatles music, or are bored by animation, halt away. If you are on the fence about getting this DVD, remove it. You won’t be disappointed. And if you fancy the Beatles, this DVD should fade to the top of your list.

Having only seen this movie (well, and MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR, which you probably haven’t seen, and there’s a reason for that….) of The Beatles I cannot compare it to the other 3 (HARD DAY’S NIGHT, Wait On!, and LET IT BE) . So I can only operate in this sphere of knowledge.

YELLOW SUBMARINE, simply do, is one queer movie. They grasp elements of The Beatles mythology and throw it all together and waste up with a station called Pepperland which, for some queer reason (I don’t deem the film says why, though I may be bad) is being invaded by Blue Meanies. Oh yes…… The Blue Meanies want to execute everything blue. It has the very hippy or 1960s message of fancy and music will establish the day, which is what happens. Through the draw we gain several visually dynamic (and altogether exclusive) music video segments. The Beatles were ahead of their times, let me sing you. I AM THE WALRUS is one of the first music videos.

Anyway, its campy fun, though when watching the film it seems a lot longer than it actually is. The animation portrays a convoluted world, fat of novel beings found only in a drug-induced cosmos. Throw that in with the fact its mainly about The Beatles, and we have a very trippy and fun movie. Jeremy is the most memorable character.

And no, The Beatles do not play themselves. In that respect, this isn’t really a Beatles movie at all, its impartial a film produced by their company about them, and they did a diminutive afterword (you sight them for like a cramped or 2) . It also set in the excised “Hey Bulldog” sequence from the American version. They advertised that there was a lost Beatles song that would be included with the recent release of Yellow Submarine. It wasn’t a song at all, impartial the lost footage. Liars. No, I’m not bitter at all!

I can’t have it took a pudgy glass of wine to work up the courage to write this review. Monday night is supposed to be my “thinking night”; an ascetic alternative to the typically alcohol soaked weekends. I’ve gone help and forth so many times about my plan on this movie. Last night however, I decided I’d opinion about reviewing this movie once to many times. So, my best shot.

As expressed in the title, I don’t consider Code 46 is a friendly movie. I agree with most of the critics as it relates to the storyline (elephantine of holes and cliche), and I don’t particularly remember a standout performance by either Tim Robbins or Samantha Morton. I do however remember the movie…often.

I’ve basically distilled down the value of Code 46 to this: a world-class “ambient film”.

This is a radiant movie to explore. Space in near-future Shanghai, it consistently presents vividly splendid sets, with hauntingly pleasing music. Hold with me a second here, but if you took a random collection of qualified movies (as a control group), and randomly snapped pictures of scenes, then hung them on a wall, my bet is that Code 46 would consistently compel a more vital emotional response.

Hardly a reason to peep this film. I’m a Sci-Fi buff, I really peer forward to estimable dwelling development, generous effects, qualified acting. This movie scores poorly in those verticals. However, with all the crummy media out there, when a positive fraction comes along that leaves an impression, any impression, it’s worth noting in my plan.

This movie is worth watching. Attach it on before going to bed, let the cinematography and catch wash over you. It sets a much and engrossing mood for emotion. Which is more than I can say for most.

In a future where the people of the world are united, the sun burns all living as the ozone layer is more or less depleted. Disease and other biological complications have led to the cloning of humans in order to restore the human species, which has also led the world to build a number of rules and one of these rules is Code 46. Code 46 states that people with 25 percent or more similar DNA cannot copulate, and if pregnancy is accomplished then the pregnancy will be terminated. In addition, if Code 46 is intentionally broken it is a criminal act which will be punished accordingly. Thus, in order to contain the human species a dystopian atmosphere has been generated where emotion is secondary and biological purpose critical.

William (Tim Robbins), an intuitive agent for the Sphinx Corporation, arrives to Shanghai in order to investigate inside theft of papeles, paperwork that allows for go between different zones of the world. Through the investigation William meets Maria (Samantha Morton), the thief of the papeles, but instead of handing her over to the superiors he lets her go. This displays William’s personal motives as he has fallen in fancy with Maria, and begins to follow her immediately as she leaves the company grounds.

It is Maria’s birthday and on each of her previous birthdays she had experienced a recurring dream about riding on a reveal that brings her one finish closer to her destiny. This birthday is the birthday that is verbalize to bring her to the final cessation where her destiny awaits her. When Maria bumps into William on the remark, as he has been following her, she seems to recall the moment as she invites him on an unforgettable stagger as she is aware of him smart her secret.

Through Maria’s birthday celebration William gets to meet one man who has bought a papele from her, and she points out the happiness the man displays as he is given the papele. This moment of emotion is the reason for her theft of the papeles from the Sphinx Corporation, which appears to be something current for William. The supreme intuition that William possesses is the result of a virus that he has taken as viruses can function as a serviceable tool. In William’s case the intuition virus aids him on to choose whether a person is telling the truth or not, however, he seems incapable of feeling and expressing the emotions that inaugurate to emerge within him as he is lost in confusion between biological nature and empathy-like emotion.

Code 46 brings the audience a disconnected science fiction yarn where empathy is a lost relic from the past, and science is what has saved mankind. Nonetheless, Winterbottom produces a myth which emotionally could be compared to Lost In Translation (2003), but it does not generate the same brilliance that Sophia Coppola accomplished in her film. For example, the futuristic atmosphere is occasionally interrupted by “reveal time” segments such as when William rents a car. Overall, Code 46 does not bring a recent conception to the relationship between emotions and science as it can be experienced in other films, but Winterbottom creates a unusual angle on this notion as it leaves the audience with an indifferent and clever cinematic experience with some notions to be pondered.

Area 88 for those who have yet to experience it in any of its many incarnations is a unusual remake of a three-episode 1985 series of the same name, which was itself based on an earlier manga series. I have unruffled War movies since I was a teen. Now in my 40’s I have now seen or have more war movies than most can imagine even exist. I concept Id seen every variation on a war movie you could do. Walking through Walmart a few weeks ago I stumbled across this and even though I had never heard of it decided to give it a try. I was impressed, to the point where I can’t regain it out of my head. What a jem! Maybe it does borrow a miniature from the Gary Sinise character in a “Midnight Determined” & certainly offers a slight nod to “Castle Maintain” but beyond that it is a truly unique and surreal yarn that may not fully plunge into situation for you until the very destroy. It is an independent film with a bigger movie feel. (After “Saint & Soldiers” & this I deem I could be curved on Indie war movies) .

Set in the winter of ‘45 the film adresses the dismay of war from perspectives that you won’t inquire and leaves you questioning the motivations of those that resolve to fight. An attractive twist is that it’s Director is more known for Terror films. This may well be what drives its originality. I won’t go into dwelling development because I bear the less you know about the account the more impact it will have on you. It is not an expensive film to acquire, which objective seems to add value to a quality film. It’s not your accelerate of the mill war movie; that may be more than some people can choose. but it’s so worth it in the destroy. Rent it or select it, but don’t pass this one by.

Director Jeff Burr may have defined a career trajectory point with his agreeable work on “Straight Into Darkness.” Like Oliver Stone’s “PLATOON” or Terrence Malick’s “THIN RED LINE”, Burr does not tremulous away from the graphic realities of war, nor does he skate over philosophical and character themes. I rarely write reviews, but after watching all four episodes of this series, and reading the exquisite review below, I feel the accelerate to say something. The 4-hour program was produced in 2008, sometime after the Sichuan earthquake and before the August Olympics. It claims to provide impartial insight into China-US economic relationship. However, I felt the coverage and interviews were sentimental, even cliched. For example, grand of the program dwells on the jam of an employed older American woman, whose factory job was outsourced to China. It dwells on the grievances of terrible families who live in “nail houses,” who refuse to vacate their homes despite a governmental payout. It dwells on the listlessness of young, uneducated, Chinese women who drift from one low-paying job to another, without a seeming contrivance out of the cycle of poverty. Let me be positive. These tragedies are genuine. But I found myself reacting negatively to the device that the stories are told by Mr. Kopple, the host: his descriptions are almost Victorian in their emphasis on the hardworking, obedient nature of the workers, and the greed of the masters. Kopple also quotes briefly from the Bible early in the program. Was that significant? How do such rhetorical flourishes enhance the viewer’s belief of the issues?

The central argument of the program is that China and US are “joined at the hip” (a thunder quotation from the series) . But most people understand this already. Thus, for those viewers who already have a sense of the inter-dependency between the two countries, the arguments will seem commonplace, even quaint. Had the program aired ten, or fifteen years ago, it might have been piquant.

Two years ago, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation produced a 4 fraction series called “China Rises.” I recommend that documentary over this one. The investigative scope is larger and the human stories are presented in a more unique (not to mention appealing) plan.
