CROSSROADS (Walter Hill’s Blues film, NOT Britney Spears’ self-indulgent 2002 fluff) is a terrific introduction to a uniquely American musical genre, with a mighty cast and a dead-on southern ‘atmosphere’. It has always astonished me that when released, critics were unable to spy past Ralph Macchio’s previous film work, and derive this gem on it’s fill merits, but it’s subsequent area as a cult classic is certainly well-deserved, with films such as the Coens’ O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? utilizing the Robert Johnson subplot and borrowing many of CROSSROAD’s visual elements. Perhaps the film, with a radiant Ry Cooder derive, was objective too far ahead of it’s time, a unfamiliar criticism to apply to a Blues movie!

The story involves young Long Island guitar prodigy Eugene ‘Lightning Boy’ Martone (Macchio), a rebel at the Julliard School with his passion for the Blues (”Old music,” one professor sneers), on a quest to recover legendary guitarist Johnson’s fabled “30th Song” of 1938. His research leads him to a NYC nursing home, where fabled harmonica player Willie Brown (the gradual actor/singer/songwriter Joe Seneca), a friend and collaborator of Johnson’s, is confined. Promising to ‘give’ the song to the youngster if he can be “busted out” and returned to his Mississippi home, the pair are soon on a cross-country odyssey, with Martone learning about discrimination, the darker side of humanity, and love’s loss (through a brief encounter with Jami Gertz, who was never lovelier), providing him with the core of sadness Brown says is important to truly play the Blues.

The climax of the film is legendary; arriving home, Brown, who had ’sold his soul’ to the Devil at the ‘Crossroads’ as a young man (fair as his friend, Johnson, had), attempts to net ‘Scratch’ (skeletal Robert Judd) to plod up the contract. The Devil informs him that he will, only if Martone can defeat his Champion in a ‘Guitar Duel’. If the youngster loses, his soul, as well as Brown’s, will be lost, forever. Martone rashly agrees (”I don’t possess any of this s*** anyway!”), and he and Brown acquire themselves in a musty church converted into a dance hall, with demons and lost souls cavorting to the rock strains of insanely talented Jack Butler (Frank Zappa guitarist/composer Steve Vai) . With only his admire of the Blues, Julliard training, and Brown’s ‘ju-ju’ to relieve him, the humbled Martone must play for far more than his life, in a ‘Duel’ (with the fantastic Vai actually playing both guitar parts) that is so improbable that it is amazing that it was NOT included in the soundtrack album of the film!

Walter Hill was no stranger to music-themed fantasies (he also directed another ‘ahead of it’s time’ cult film, STREETS OF FIRE), and with CROSSROADS, he took a simple storyline, and turned it into an unforgettable musical cinematic experience.

That the film is FINALLY on DVD is a MAJOR cause for celebration…now, let’s hope an expanded “Special Edition” with added bonus features, will follow!

The film “Crossroads” was a major influence on me. Of course we all heard rock music based on blues music but this was my introduction to searching wait on and finding the roots of music. I also began to play guitar after seeing the film, it is a most intelligent movie. I disagree with the Amazon/Matlin reviews that pan the movie due to Ralph Macchio (who i feel played a gorgeous role) or the status (its determined Matlin isnt even aware of the exact Robert Johnson)

How I do miss the boys. At a time when MTV was actually cold and was playing music videos, (what are those again? ), Beavis and Butt-head ravishing powerful ruled the channel, providing us with hours after hours of pure entertainment. Was it slow entertainment? Of course it was, that’s why it was so humorous. I actually judge of the shows as a clever satire of how high school students are portrayed. Now with their very have film, “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America,” the boys are causing more chaos and mischief than ever before.

After their beloved television area is stolen, Beavis and Butt-Head determine to peek another one, no matter where they gain it. Their stupidity leads them a drunken fool who mistakes the boys for paid killers he had hired to extinguish his wife. And things quick go out of control from one mix up to another. The boys ruin up being a “national security threat” with every FBI agent after them. And all they wanted was their TV help! The results are hilarious and unpredictable.

This is a broad movie for anyone who loves Beavis and Butt-Head. Is it as splendid as the shows? Not in my belief, but it’s blooming darn cessation. The sick and insensible humor is all there and the storyline is very creative and well-done. There are tons of celebrity voices that you unbiased might gaze.

The DVD itself is average. Nothing right recent and captivating here. There’s two trailers, and that’s about it. The sound and narrate quality is really qualified. I fair wished the DVD itself had more to offer. This is a movie I wouldn’t mind re-buying if they ever determine to perform a special edition.

All in all, “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America” is outrageously humorous and is a lot more clever than people give it credit for. If you want laughs and a grand time, grasp up this film as soon as possible. Unbiased thank God that you’re not as monotonous as these two morons. Thanks to these two dudes, you’ll never want to plunge out of high school.

I adore this movie! My celebrated thing about B&B is that no matter how tedious they earn,the writing is always very shiny…a point that is overlooked far too often.Of course fun is the main factor when watching B&B,and no,it shouldn’t be taken seriously,but I disapprove when these snobbish yuppie types rep on their high-horses and dismiss it as unintelligent,because it is everything but that! Major gripes aside,let’s glean down to business.I’m not gonna train any details about the movie,for those of you who havn’t seen it yet.All I’m gonna say is that it’s absolutely HILARIOUS,and very well-written…extreme and low-brow of course,but that’s the whole point! The expose was literaly the official note of my childhood (it started when I was 8,and ended only months before I turned 13),and the movie is everything the point to was,and then some.So,if you like shameful but quick-witted humor,and you’re prepared to laugh your gluteus maximus off,then by all means check out “Beavis and Butt-head Do America”.Oh,by the plan,my review title is taken from one of Beavis’s lines (and I didn’t misspell “dam”…you’ll witness what I mean when you contemplate the movie) . -Peace-

“How Hitler Lost the War” is one of the outstanding documentaries I’ve seen on World War II. I originally taped this prove off PBS when it first appeared in 1989, and have watched it several times since then. Produced by David Hoffman and narrated by Norman Rose, the program has a weighty and authoritative flare. Once you begin watching you can’t conclude until you examine the conclusion.

Recently, I copied my weak VHS tape onto DVD so I’d have a better and more permanent relate. This included Titles at various points in the program so I could more easily net parts of the prove I wanted to review. Sadly, though, my tape quality was not the highest which makes this unique production such a welcome win. Its audio and video are topnotch, as you might seek information from from DVD.

The central theme of the demonstrate is how Hitler lost a war that the Germans may have already won through his vacillation and stubbornness. He dallied and delayed as key points in the war were reached on both the Eastern and Western fronts. Hitler issued orders that resulted in the loss of whole armies in defiance of advice he received from his military experts. And finally, to our deliverance, he refused to consume properly the wonder weapons he yearned for when they were proper in front of him.

Among the other most memorable features of this program are the interviews done with soldiers and airmen from both the German and Allied sides. All of these men are surely uninteresting now, but their words live on describing the most abominable conflict in history. Their accounts are available to us and future generations in this indelible do. Especially knowing are pictures drawn of the Eastern Front and the suffering and loss of human life on both sides. Today’s problems seem microscopic by comparison, and yet, the sacrifices made to rid the world of Nazism must not be forgotten, lest they might have to be repeated.

Unfortunately, the current DVD does not carry titles or chapters as most DVD’s do these days. Rather, it runs the paunchy 67 minutes without interruption. Too dreadful, but what do you examine for the neat bargain brand of $6.99? If it weren’t for this flaw I would have rated the production 5 stars, rather than 4. Peaceful, the jabber is the most indispensable thing and someone who doesn’t have this video in his World War II collection should bustle, not saunter, to order a copy.

I got this DVD by chance, and that was valid luck. It can be seen as a type of missing link that explains why the initial expeditiously success of Nazi Germany turned into defeat. While virtually all explanations given of why Hitler lost the war are usually unconvincing or to superficial, this one can actually interpret what really caused him to lose the war.

The shiny thing about this DVD is that it includes interviews not with some historians that go on propagating their theories and assumptions, rather it includes rare intereviews of those at the highest levels of combat aid in the genuine 2nd World War.

What is really extraordinary is that Hitler himself was the main cause of why the 2nd World War was lost by Germany. It was more than anything else his personality that prevented what in retrospect would most likely have been a fast victory for Nazi Germany. The 1st major mistake that Hitler made was that he believed that his invasion of Poland would not have any consequences. Hitler relied, as described by fighter ace Doughty, most of all on his foreign minister Ribbentrop who claimed that G.B. & France would not issue war on Germany over a German attack on Poland, especially since Germany had objective 1 week before concluded the essential Nazi-Soviet Neutrality Pact which meant that Germany was thus officially allied to Stalin’s Soviet Union. When Hitler did attack Poland in Sept. 1939, while Stalin attacked Poland from the East, Hitler was totally surprised that G.B. & France would narrate war on Germany only 2 days later, on the 3rd of September. This was the first substantial mistake that Hitler made. He had firmly believed that the allies (G.B. & France) would pause out of his war with Poland. As one of the interviewer’s stated, Hitler had counted on a runt private war with Poland! This changed the course of history and of course started the 2nd World War that would result in the deaths of more than 50 million people.

The 2nd great mistake that Hitler made was at Dunkirk where some 300 000 British and French troopes were stuck due to Hitler’s immensly successful tank invasion through the Ardenne’s forst that seperated France from Germany. By using this strategy he actually nick off the British and French armies that were supposed to fight the German’s in Belgium and Holland, as they expected the Germans to conduct their main tank assault in those neighboring countries. Once these armies were stuck in Dunkirk the German army and airforce had the chance of finishing them off. Realizing this peril the British sent in all their ships and boats that they could assemble to rescue those troops and disappear them out of harms plan wait on into G.B. Hitler and the high German disclose now had the untold chance of a lifetime to demolish the entire British Expeditionary force holed up in Dunkirk. But to virtually everyone’s surprise on the German side Hitler actually halted the attack on the British and French troops in Dunkirk. He delays and wastes precious time, until he makes the somewhat irregular decision to spend his airforce to bomb the forces at Dunkirk. But this decision was clearly a bad one, since the British immediately send in their Royal Airforce to protect their troops at Dunkirk. This first airforce battle between Germany and Expansive Britain was clearly won by the British as they destroyed many German aircraft, so that the British troops could be successfully evacuated from Dunkirk. This was a ample mistake by Hitler, had he sent in his army it would have been very likely that it would have smashed the British and French forces in Dunkirk by itself, as it had done before by smashing through the French defenses when Germany fast invaded France in May 10th 1940, without encountering powerful resistance!

The next mountainous mistake that Hitler made was not to attack G.B. with a simultaneous amphibious invasion. Had he faded his airforce in combination with his ground forces a successful invasion would have been quite likely. This is also what a commander of the Royal Airforce said in an interview in this DVD. He actually claimed that G.B. didn’t really net the “Battle of Britain” in 1940 it was rather that the Germany airforce (Luftwaffe) had lost it. Again it was Hitler, who against the advice of some of his best officers, decided to delay and deferr this invasion of Britain that could have changed the outcome of the war completely. As Adolf Brave the celebrated fighter ace said in the DVD, when he met Hitler and Valiant advised him to speedily lift the oppertunity to bomb and invade Britain, Hitler literally said that he didn’t want to hear any of this. He was an Anglophile and believed that the English were to be compared to the Germans in terms of their ranking in his mind, he didn’t want a war with G.B. and thus he crucially delayed the invasion of Britain. When he finally decided (probably also because the high inform was pressuring him to invade) to attack he stale the airforce inadequately. Often the German pilots were ordered to attack rather useless targets such as civilian cities, which were of no strategic value in the war. And even worse for the Nazi’s: when the Luftwaffe was actually on the verge of finally defeating the Royal Airforce Hitler again halted their attacks! A retired Royal Airfore commander is actually quoted in this DVD with the words: “we were virtually defeated, and then the Attack was stopped”. Even before when factual after the British evacuation of their 300 000 troops in Dunkirk, he said that had Hitler attacked then, it would most likely have been the destroy of G.B. since they had hardly had any weapons to fight the Nazi’s at that point in time. Again Hitler made the crucially imperfect decisions to discontinuance a very successful attack on Britain, with the result that Germany could not complete the war by defeating G.B. and thus probably ending the war in its favor.

The next blunder that Hitler made is well known and its his invasion of the Soviet Union (22nd June 1941) . Here the authors of the DVD contend that his or rather the German plans for the invasion were not well developed because it wasen’t distinct where to strike first and what targets to catch first. For example, there was remarkable debate during the invasion by the German high divulge whether to steal Moscow first or whether to travel South or North. Actually Hitler changed his views: first it seemed that he wanted to secure territory in the Ukrain, and then he moved his troops toward the north, then changed the thought again by trying to pick Moscow. The astronomical mistake was not going towards Moscow with paunchy force from the beginning as all the communication went through this city, and having conquered Moscow would have been a political as well as strategic victory for the Germans. Also in the Ukrain Hitler quickely lost this colossal dwelling because he came down harsh on the local population there that was opposed to Stalin! Had Hitler been wiser and old this resentment of the Ukrainians who despised Stalin and the Communists the chances for a victory against Stalin would have been a lot better.

One would mediate that these would have been all the grave mistakes that Hitler would produce during the war, but there were even more to follow as this DVD shows.

For example, when the US & British bomber fleets (usually 1000 strong) were raiding Germany and causing heavy destruction by raining down their lethal bombs on German cities, Hitler could have seriously disrupted and perhaps even virtually stopped this onslaught! Bold claims that the German airforce had gotten an incredible air superiority fighter by the ruin of 1943: the Messerschmidt 262, usually known as the ME 262. This was the first ever produced jet fight aircraft, well-behaved for outflying all allied fighters by about 150 Miles per hour in terms of hurry. According to Daring, who flew this increadible fighter, it was like an angel in the sky and made the other allied planes seem like they were literally standing like balloons in the sky! The Me 262 was allotment of the recent “wonder” weapons that Hitler had ordered. It was grand, according to Audacious, of regaining the commence in the air war over Germany. Mettlesome says in the DVD that with 100 of these fighters the German airforce could have shot down 200 allied aircraft (mainly bombers) A DAY!!! Anyone who knows even the slightest bit about airwar would have known that this would have meant the swiftly raze of the allied bombing campaign over Germany. It would have turned the airwar around and made it possible for Germany to at least find a better deal when it came to ending the war. But again it was Hitler who objected to such a sensible thought! He wanted, as he claimed, a bomber helpful of bombing the allies! But this dosen’t earn any military sense at all! A bomber snappily of ME 262’s (they could carry 2 bombs, not considerable) would have been senseless without the ability to kill the US and British fighters & bombers that continually bombed German cities. And where was this ME 262 bomber hasty supposed to attack, in G.B., if that was the understanding then again some other fighters would have to positive the sky of US & British fighters that would surely have prevented any bomber rapid from getting past them to G.B.! Again, it was Hitler that prevented a very effective attack on US & British bombers & fighters by not allowing the ME 262’s to be produced in the numbers needed for such a mission, and by keeping the few ME 262’s mostly away from the US & British bomber fleets that were pounding Germany day and night since 1944. Bold says that he seriously considered first escaping Germany but that the only flee possible was to the East, meaning the Soviet war zone, and that was clearly undesirable, then he considered to committ suicide. Ultimately he was establish assist in charge of the Me 262 attack squads, but the war was lost, once again due to Hitler’s dreadful decisions.

In all of this it is improbable that Hitler wasen’t some kind of double agent who prevented Nazi Germany from achieving a fleet and dazzling victory in the 2nd World War. But as the DVD makes determined it was his incompetence more than anything else that made Germany lost the war! IN that sense the world was lucky that Germany had Adolf Hitler & Germany was equally unlucky that they had him as their leader.

I really enjoyed this DVD. It delved into the beginnings of the templar, and I understanding did a worthy job. I wish they would have discussed the demise of the templar in more detail, but that was really all that was lacking.

A well done 100 dinky replay of the History Channel 2 section series on the Templars. This is relatively pure history, and doesn’t have worthy in the arrangement of weird or unsubstantiated theories – and to the extent it does, they are identified as such. If you are looking for a balanced and generally lawful rendering of Templar history, stare this special.

“How To Slay Your Wife” is a very interesting comedy, directed with his usual aplomb by Richard Quine, that provides another respectable vehicle for multi-talented Jack Lemmon. It certainly gives us a snapshot of the mid-sixties–cars, clothes, furniture and, of course, attitudes. Perhaps I should add that the “snapshot” also reflects the affluent lifestyle of someone who can afford a luxurious townhouse in Modern York City!

Mr. Lemmon plays Stanley Ford, a successful cartoonist and “confirmed bachelor”. He wakes up one morning after a crazy bachelor party to win a blonde in his bed ( drop-dead delicate Virna Lisi ) , and a wedding ring on her finger–it seems that, while intoxicated, he managed to marry this young woman. To add to his befuddlement, she is Italian and speaks no English. His “very British” butler ( scene-stealing Terry-Thomas ) is “haunted and appalled” and threatens to leave this severely-compromised masculine environment. The rest of the film is dedicated to our hero’s attempts to unload the unique wife–by lawful means or otherwise–and return to the playboy lifestyle that he champions. There is considerable more to the situation but, unlike at least one other reviewer, I subscribe to the theory that potential viewers do not wish to be told every scene, place development and set in arrive.

The witty script is accompanied by an trustworthy cast. I have already mentioned the priceless Terry-Thomas, who also serves as the film’s “narrator”. Virna Lisi is extremely comely and seductive–the scene where she “pops out of the cake” at the bachelor party will tranquil quicken the pulse of any red-blooded male ( and gives rise to the one central flaw in the film–why would any sane guy want to “dump” Ms. Lisi!? )! Eddie Mayehoff is hilarious as Mr. Lemmon’s not-overly-clever lawyer, sympathetic to his client’s jam, but also under the thumb of his domineering wife ( Claire Trevor, adding a shapely droll performance to her famous film career ) . Sidney Blackmer also shines in a petite role as a believe who is anything but sober! Finally–there is Mr. Jack Lemmon ( I serene miss him ) –having a ball as Stanley Ford, a paranoid, disturbed, adolescent guy who only thinks he knows the key to fair happiness.

I found the describe quality to be excellent–the sound heavenly worthy what you would question for a forty-plus year outmoded film. There are no extras, except the trailer. Neal Hefti contributes a nice, jazzy rep, reminiscent of his “Uncommon Couple” music–or perhaps vice versa!

Hopefully, people will not be unhappy by the “politically wrong” title. This satirical comedy serene has more than enough silly scenes to entertain a current audience, and the cast is perfect. Try it–you’ll like it!

This is one of those films that originate out seeming to be about one thing, but turn out at the destroy to be about something else entirely. Jack Lemmon is a confirmed (? ) bachelor, living in a town house with his valet, Terry-Thomas, when one morning, after a liquor-soaked bachelor party for a friend the night before, he wakes to score himself married (gulp) to the dazzlingly graceful Virna Lisi. Trapped in a no-win plot, he cooks up a space for her abolish (only on paper, of course) ; but, when she disappears, he finds himself on trial for her staunch slay. One of the broad comedic courtroom scenes follows. When the [spoiler] at the demolish of the film, you realized that you’ve been duped — the film, which seemed to be about the joys of woman-hating, turns out to be about one of the spacious themes of cinema – “care for conquers all”. Eddie Mayehoff and Claire Trevor are helpful in supporing roles.

The first Robot Chicken: Star Wars (about 23 minutes only) had a couple of chuckles, but this second one (60 minutes) was the one that really had tons of laughs.

In 2001, Disney released “Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed In at the House of Mouse”, a Christmas special from the House of Mouse TV Reveal. And like most Disney releases, once it’s released, don’t query to leer another release again for years. This Christmas episode is about how all the Disney characters (characters from nearly every Disney piquant film) are stranded at the House of Mouse (a night club) due to a snow storm. So, Mickey being the great host that he is, is trying to bring home that Christmas spirit and entertain his guest. JUDGMENT CALL:

I watched “Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed In at the House of Mouse” with my toddler and he absolutely loved it and wanted to peer it again. And as a holiday family feature, it is an animated release that will be fun, due to the number of Disney characters seen throughout the feature.

With that being said, for those who fill the novel release of Walt Disney Intelligent Shorts Collection or other Disney releases probably have the bright shorts on previously released DVD’s. Those who possess the unusual release from 2001, there is really is nothing unusual on this DVD with the exception of the novel trailers. In fact, if you are a fan who mainly wants this release for its holiday-related interesting shorts, then you may want to check out the impartial released “Disney Animation Collection 7: Mickey’s Christmas Carol” which comes with “Mickey’s Christmas Carol”, “Pluto’s Christmas Tree” and two other Disney classics.

But with this release of “Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed In at the House of Mouse”, if you are a “House of Mouse” fan, you do regain the premiere episode of “House of Mouse” and other short bewitching holiday special features. I do admit that I wished that the DVD release had more interactivity like other Disney releases with games or something extra.

Overall, “Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed In at the House of Mouse” is curious for young and worn as it does feature newer and older animation and if you don’t have these spellbinding shorts on another previously released Disney collection, it’s worth checking out. But if you do have these shorts already, it’s kind of hard to recommend it as the majority of the disclose in this feature are those classic shorts.

So, for parents who are looking for a Disney holiday release, as mentioned earlier, my son loved it and wanted to inspect it again. So, yes it is an engrossing and fun Disney holiday release. I recommend Disney fans looking for a an attractive holiday release to also take a copy of “Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas” (2004), if you don’t occupy it already.

When Disney brought Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and essentially the entire casts of spellbinding features to Saturday morning and other daytime TV in 2001, it was done in broad style with an exertion to gain something that would please fans and young viewers, being hip as well as classic.

It’s a testimony to those enthusiastic with House of Mouse that such an impossibly huge order was carried off so noteworthy of the time. Unlike grand animation for television, House of Mouse contains lots of purely visual sequences, short as they are, and short cartoons, which are also shorter than the theatrical type. These cartoons abound with gags — clearly a lot of work went into them by people who, by and big, generally cared about the early work and actually liked it. I can forgive occasional lapses in graphic quality because of the sheer beauty of the amusing poses, especially for Donald. Clearly these poses are the foundation of animation that by necessity is produced in and out of the country. It’s inspired by the work of the Disney masters, and probably was researched by the series staff.

Mickey’s Magical Christmas is a special House of Mouse that extends to feature length, containing unique cartoons as well as Pluto’s Christmas Tree and Mickey’s Christmas Carol. As a bonus, the premiere episode of House of Mouse in included — a very comical legend in which Donald takes over the ‘toon club.

This DVD is also a bit of a tribute to the slack Wayne Allwine, who voiced Mickey since Christmas Carol and is heard throughout. Surely it was unintentional, since this is a DVD reissue, but Wayne also appears on camera, guiding guests through the Disney sound effects department, where he worked with Jimmy Macdonald and from whom he took on the mantle of Mickey’s protest. This DVD is worth having objective for his short bonus feature, “The Sounds of Christmas.”

I certain would like to examine more House of Mouse on DVD and so would my kids…

This is an artistically well-done movie if there ever was one. In fact, I don’t assume it would be going too far to call it Bernardo Bertolucci’s best movie.

The film centers around an American girl (Liv Tyler) who travels over to Italy to visit her relatives. While there, she gains the friendship of an older writer (Jeremy Irons) who is dying of cancer. Tyler exudes a youthful, natural and yet mysterious beauty which complements Irons’ masculine, illustrious screen-presence quite nicely. In many sequences, Tyler is photographed so elegantly that she appears to be a model for one of Boticelli’s paintings.

Juxtaposed with this bonding is the desire for Tyler’s character to lose her virginity. In this rite-of-passage, her dying friend becomes her mentor. They both want it to be “special,” but she is also tempted to objective “do it” with the efficacy of becoming a complete woman.

As the screen of the DVD shows Liv Tyler nude, a lot of guys are probably wondering if this is a movie in which she actually bares anything. The acknowledge is……yes! There are a few brief scenes in which she is topless. To my knowledge, this is the only film in which she appears nude.

Filmed on the sun-drenched verdant rolling green countryside of Italy, the movie is colorfully illustrated by vibrant contrasts of red and green. The cinematography goes a long contrivance towards giving the record a distinctly Italian flavor.

So, if you’re Italian, like Italian stuff, relish aesthetically handsome films, adore Jeremy Irons or have a crush on Liv Tyler, this movie is for you. If none of these things appeal to you, this probably is not a DVD for you.

The first time I watched this movie I was about seventeen. And from my considerably naïve 17 year frail perspective this seemed like a deeply sharp, very moving and ultimately romantic movie. Though I was not oblivious to the juxtaposition of things traditionally romanticized with less than romantic realities, I was largely distracted by Lucy’s absorb dawdle to give anything else distinguished understanding. It was likely the first time that I saw a well developed character like Lucy who wasn’t the confident bubblegum type of romantic heroine that I was accustomed to seeing. Perhaps that says more about the movies I was watching at the time than anything else, but Lucy’s imperfections and awkwardness resonated with me and “Stealing Beauty very mercurial became one of my favourite movies.

Last Sunday, almost ten yeats later, I sat down to view it again.

I am more aware now of the involving and at times somewhat fetishistic ways in which Lucy’s virginity was treated by the men and women around her. This is unprejudiced a personal view rather than a critique; but there’s an enthralling ugliness in the men’s reactions to Lucy that is more pronounced now that I survey it again. I’m distinguished more enthusiastic in the arrangement that characters like Chris, Alex and Nicolo react to (and pick advantage of) Lucy (and the concept of Lucy) as well as Lucy’s responses to them. And I reflect that such gripping complexities are a credit to the map that Bertolucci tells his stories as a director. Though I gaze it differently now, Stealing Beauty remains one of my favourite films.

Synopsis: If the celebrated 20th century existentialist philosopher Jean Paul Sartre were to build a film the ‘07 cinematic release `Mister Lonely’ would be that film. This is a surreal memoir of alienation and disconnectedness as played out by a group of impersonators living in a rural mansion estate in France. Michael Jackson (Diego Luna) is the newest arrival to the commune joining; Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Abe Lincoln, the Pope, the Queen of England, Sammy Davis Jr., Madonna, James Dean, the Three Stooges, Tiny Red Riding Hood and the itsy-bitsy Shirley Temple and Buckwheat. They all live out there celebrity delusions 24/7 and for all intents and purposes have become who they idolize thus losing the ability to re-connect with their lawful selves.

While living and relating to this community of would-be-celebrities Michael slowly begins to explore the folly of it all and contemplates leaving the splendid confines of the commune and face the harsh world outside without the guise and pretense of being someone else. The examine is whether he is strong enough to attach aside his celebrity persona and enter the mainstream unknown and alone.

There is also an intermittent secondary storyline concerning a Catholic Priest and a group of Nuns working in a remote place of Latin America. During a flight in a little plane piloted by the Priest one of the Sisters falls out the start cargo door and somehow survives without injury. She believes God has performed a miracle and convinces the other Sisters to test their faith by jumping out of the plane without a parachute, telling them if they truly beget “God will be your parachute”. This aspect of the movie initially seems out of area with the main storyline but upon further examination the thoughtful viewer will arrive to seek that it’s examining the same existential angst which accompanies feelings of alienation and disconnectedness as the famous storyline. The only inequity is here the subplot is dealing with the broken spiritual relationship between God and man instead of man and society.

Critique: The beginning and extinguish are exceptional, the first portion successfully drawing the audience into the films highly unorthodox landscape, the last allotment providing the viewer not so considerable with a certain sever conclusion but positing a number of existential musings that will conclude with you long after viewing. The soundtrack is improbable, especially the music of Silver Mount Zion which accompanies the skydiving Nuns sequence. Be forewarned, the movie is excessively dumb and the epic is told through images, dialogue and music. If you’re looking for action and adventure pass on this one. However if you’re someone who enjoys something thoughtful and bright, you know something you can discuss and decipher over a cup of coffee, this is your film.

My Rating: -3 1/2 Stars-.

Our scene opens with the crooning of Mister Lonely, the classic 1960’s tune by Bobby Vinton whilst our young Michael Jackson impersonator glides slowly across the blue sky on a bike with a dangling plush monkey, darting about late him. Trying to compose a living as Michael Jackson(Diego Luna) on the streets of Paris seems to be uneasy, and we seek our Michael frustrated although he’s quite a ringer. A job booked for him at a senior citizens home gives him some enjoyment as he tells them not to die, and dances his plan into meeting a novel acquaintance, Marilyn Monroe(Samantha Morton) .

Now that he’s met Marilyn, there has been recent life breathed into him, as she invites him to live along with her and around twenty other impersonators like themselves, in a elegant castle far from the rest of the world. Though hesitant to leave the comfortability of his room with all the things that have served him well, Michael agrees to depart to the commune.

Michael arrives to a warm welcome by his fellow celebrities Charlie Chaplin, Abraham Lincoln, Madonna, James Dean, Sammy Davis Jr., The Pope, The Queen of England, Miniature Red Riding Hood, the Three Stooges and Buckwheat, although many of them wonder ‘why is he here? ‘

Mister Lonely is surreal, and glorious with a soundtrack including sparkling ‘13 angels standing guard ’round the side of your bed’ by A Silver Mt. Zion, and the ethnic ‘Mulima Hale’ by Salome Nolega & Girls. With images that will re-enter your head for days and weeks after viewing, and a gleaming subplot to reconsider upon.

While watching this film, especially scenes toward the middle though-provoking tense and off-the-wall scenes from the commune I found myself sorrowful and my attention waning, but in retrospect that is exactly the contrivance it should be. The mood is captured so well, and the personalities and flaws of these celebrities was dealt with a mountainous deal of notion, respect and creativity.

A film that is peaceful inspiring me days later, if you’re willing to sit through something a microscopic different, that may result in you asking yourself some of the same questions.

“Who am I? Am I willing to let others inspect who I really am? Is there a God? What am I doing here? “

“Shrimp Bear: Halloween Stories” is the only “Diminutive Contain” DVD release for 2006. Although it’s not immediately evident, this DVD is actually objective a rerelease with additional stories of lisp already released on VHS. The other stories are “Under the Covers,” “Night of the Tubby Moon,” “Up All Night,” “Exiguous Sherlock Hold” and “Detective Puny Enjoy.”

One bit of warning — the stories on this are so wonderfully relaxing that you or your kids might kill up falling asleep! Not because it’s tiresome — it’s anything but, but objective because the overall tone, coloring and characters are very suited and relaxing. The only other present like this that I deem offers accurate competition in this category is “Maisy.”

Oh, and I didn’t watch any changes in the theme music.

I fancy Limited Hold for my 3 year aged. It DOES serene down dinky boys. But I was disappointed that they changed the theme music. Don’t “they” realize that children need routine – my puny boy jumps for joy when he hears the aged theme music. We keep this on today all enraged to search for the Halloween episodes and he was quite upset the music was different – en fin….it is level-headed Petite Enjoy but unprejudiced a slight different.
