Being a homeschool mom I am always looking for the most interesting, hold your attention type ways of teaching history. I have watched several tapes on ancient history that were dry & rather dull. “Lost Civilizations” is anything but dull. My 9 yr. old loves it, and even my 6 yr. old will sit for 45 minutes at a time and watch it. It covers Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt & the Aegean on Vol.1. Greece, China & Rome on Vol.2. The Maya’s and The Inca’s on Vol. 3. Africa and Tibet on Vol.4. The scenery is breath-taking! We watch the tapes every year as a review. And if you can believe it, my kids put it in sometimes for fun. I highly recommend this set!

I teach high school ancient history and these DVD’s are pure gold – don’t pass them by! The DVD’s on Tibet, Egypt, Classical Greece, Minoans, Rome, the Inca, the Maya, & China are great. The DVD on Africa is a bunch of P.C.ism – it is the only bad one in the bunch. I only wish they would’ve done a DVD on India &/or the Aztec instead of the Africa DVD.

One of Broadway’s most lustrous songwriters, Cole Porter (1891-1964) worked hard to prove an unflappable image to the world–but in truth he was a tremendously complex man, a homosexual who lived with wife Linda Lee Thomas in a marriage of convenience, subject fits of depression, and suffering horrific injure in the wake of a horseback riding accident which left him crippled at the peak of his career. Add to this the fact that his lyrics were often censored for film, radio, and records and it seems very peculiar that 1940s Hollywood would attempt a biography. What they did, of course, was fictionalize it to the max, reducing the anecdote of his life to a mix of backstage musical and domestic drama–and transforming the diminutive and waspish Porter and his cool bride Linda into comely Cary Grant and splendid Alexis Smith. The result is pure nonsense, of course, but when you tack in a host of Porter classics–fantasy it might be, but it is fascinating enough to perceive.Grant is no singer, but he has grand charm, and Smith is as always extremely glowing. The supporting cast is remarkably strong, featuring the likes of Jane Wyman, Eve Arden, Dorothy Malone, and Alan Hale–and rare camouflage appearances by Monty Woolley and Mary Martin, who assert knockout performances of “Miss Otis Regrets” and “My Heart Belongs To Daddy” respectively. The DVD transfer is reasonable, and although the bonuses are pure fluff they are silly. While it may be short on fact with a anecdote petite more than pure melodrama, the music and performers develop NIGHT AND DAY a reasonably fine diagram to exhaust a rainy afternoon.Buy,Download, Or Stream Night and Day! “Night & Day” is a unbelievable musical, a fine film displaying Cary Grant’s talents, and it has that ‘never-to-be-realized-again’ Technicolor to its sets that offers that imaginary world so many films offered in the 50s, (although this particular film is from ‘46) .
Buy,Download, Or Stream Night and Day! Click Here If the viewer is looking for historical accuracy, it is best to see elsewhere. There is a loose framework of historical accuracy here, but only a skeleton. Porter actually did go to Yale, but only for undergrad. He actually went to Harvard for law school. As far as I know, he was never actually in World War I, although he was in Europe during the war. In addition, the esteem sage is completely and utterly fabricated, although it is “cute” and a nice sub-plot to the film.
The precise driving force of the film is definitely the sets, the music, and Grant himself. This is definitely an provocative fantasy, and I highly recommend it for film buffs, especially those that savor Cary Grant.
The current DVD is nicely achieve together, and it includes a series of Cole Porter trailers, a Dezi Arnez music number, a musical short, and even a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

I’ll freely admit that I, along with a few friends, went to see Pathology because we’d heard that Milo Ventimiglia was nekkid in a few scenes. I’m shallow, but not so shallow that I can’t admit that I’m shallow.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Pathology! Click Here

If not for the aforementioned shallowness, I don’t think this is the kind of movie I would usually see. So imagine my surprise when I actually liked it. Yes, it’s extremely gory and twisted, but there’s something fun in all that. The cast clearly had a blast with their roles, it’s easy to imagine outtakes with the actors playing around with some of the more disgusting props.

If you don’t take the movie too seriously, it’s actually quite enjoyable, and even at times rather thought-provoking. As we left the theater, a discussion was struck up about who we would kill if we could get away with it. All in jest, obviously. (A popular answer “Whatever genius was in charge of marketing this movie.” It’s only playing on about 45 screens in the entire country.)

Buy,Download, Or Stream Pathology! Click Here

Admittedly, this is one of those movies where you’re either going to love it or hate it, no middle ground. It all depends on what you’re into, really.

And on one final shallow note, if you’re a Milo Ventimiglia fan, let’s just say you won’t be disappointed.

Pathology follows the path of Peter Petrelli-I mean Dr. Ted Grey, a recent medical student who becomes involved in a homicidal game among his new peers at the penultimate pathology hospital in the country. Compounding this is his affair with one of his psychotic new coworkers while simultaneously juggling his relationship with his now long distance fiancee, as well as a budding drug addiction.

The acting in this movies is good, and by good I mean very disturbing. Grey starts off as a genuinely good guy, and is seduced by the prospect of proving he can solve the perfect murder. He initially soothes his conscionce by only killing “undesirables,” a term which quickly loosens as the movie proceeds. He is also surrounded by people who, were there such a group in the medical industry, would send many screaming from the hospital. The interactions between the members drives home the creepiness of the film(The memory of two students playing catch with a human brain stands out in particular), though a few are so pushed to the back they might as well not be present.

The movie lacks enough punch to be horror, and far, far too much to be a simple medical drama. It does manage to be very disturbing, though definitely not for its believability. The crimes are commited, and the police are rarely, if ever, involved. The characters have far too much with regards to luck and resources in committing the crimes, and theres not enough explanation of the vagaries of them.

I would give this 3, or possibly two stars, but it manages to be what it appears, a slasher that is both incredibly unsettling, and contains enough good acting to be able to survive to credits. The ending also is one of the best I’ve seen for a horror in a very long time

Based on the stage hit by Kaufman/Hart and adapted for the conceal by Julius and Philip Epstein (who also did some thing called “Casablanca”), “The Man Who Came to Dinner” may be one of the ten funniest pictures ever made. In a thinly disguised caricature of Alexander Woolcott, Monty Woolley is Sheridan Whiteside, an acerbic Recent York critic and lecturer who breaks a leg while in a little town and is forced to live temporarily with an uptight local couple (Grant Mitchell and Billie Burke) who aren’t at all gay about their unusual guest. Whiteside proceeds to capture over the house, recede in his secretary (Bette Davis), endlessly berate his nurse (Mary Wickes), re-direct the lives of the couple’s children, have all manner of visitors, and generally reek havoc.

Some knowledge of the literary and theatrical figures of the 30’s and 40’s helps in appreciating all the in-jokes, but even without that foreknowledge this is composed a hilarious film. Woolley was reprising his role from Broadway, and he so dominates the proceedings that Davis, at the height of her powers and popularity, is almost superfluous. Guest appearances by Ann Sheridan and Jimmy Durante (a veiled interpretation of Harpo Marx) liven up the stagey interpretation, and there’s an humdrum subplot about Davis and the local reporter, but for the most fraction it’s Woolley’s explain. Hart and Kaufman had both worked with the Marx Brothers, and it shows: The script is an endless string of stinging one-liners and retorts. For anyone who enjoys classic comedies, this is not to be missed.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Man Who Came to Dinner! Click HereThe film version of Kaufman and Hart’s hit Broadway comedy “The Man who Came to Dinner” is a first rate Warner Brother’s production of 1941. While Monty Woolley gets third billing to Bette Davis and Ann Sheridan, clearly for box office reasons, the film centres around his ferrocious performance based on Alexander Woollcott.

The tale is simple. An egocentric celebrity arrives in a runt town in Ohio, fractures his hip on the cool steps outside the house of one of the town’s emminent citizens, threatens to sue and moves in to recuperate. In doing so, he takes over the household with his entourage and the film follows the resultant mayhem. The film has an ensemble cast supporting Woolley and everyone has their moment. There are endless references to the “in crowd” of 1941 and the film requires numerous viewings to purchase up all the one liners because the jokes are mercurial and indignant. The direction is featureless and the film is static but it is the dialogue which counts so the slow direction doesn’t really matter.

Davis takes a supporting role as Woolley’s secretary and demonstrates her claim that she did NOT always have to consume centre stage if the script was valid. She is silly and sardonic and in her romantic scenes, nobody could be as relaxed and comfortable as she was on the conceal, almost convincing us that such a sophisticated woman could descend for a hick newspaper man, the elegant Richard Travis. Ann Sheridan is tart, sexy and devastatingly handsome as Lorraine Sheldon, said to be based on Gertrude Lawrence. She was filming “King’s Row” at the same time and always said she did not care about this film because King’s Row was considerable more distinguished. Nevertheless, she certainly enhanced her stardom with this hilarious performance. All the others are terrific – Mary Wickes as the bewildered nurse, Billy Burke as the scatty mother, Jimmy Durante as Harpo Marx and Reginald Gardiner as Noel Coward etc etc. Special mention of Grant Mitchell as the harried father of the household, a wonderful foyle for Woolley’s vitriol and with a memorable final moment in the film.

The print is obliging and the extras include the current trailer, with evidence of a scene slash from the film, a worthwhile short commentary and a terrific short containing Six Hits and a Miss harminising “You gotta know how to dance”, a song from the 1936 musical “Colleen” with the dance by Ruby Keeler and Paul Draper interpolated from that film.

It is extraordinary that this film is finally available on DVD, whether as fraction of the Davis Collection Volume 2 or on its contain.

rug cleaning 1

January 7th, 2010 by brielle6402107

No doubt rugs adorn your homes but the most drudging chore is to clean and maintain them. Sometimes purchasing them could be an expensive affair and sometimes they may be delicate. So in order to guard your investment and keep their shine preserved, you need to avoid few familiar mistakes and follow certain tips while Rug Cleaning

which can increase the life of your rug.

You are hereby recommended not to beat the rug as thumping can loosen the woven threads resulting in the damage of the rug backing.

Do not vacuum the fringes of the rug as cleaner will suck the edges into its beater bar and edges will get loosened and become curly and stringy.

You are also suggested not to use rug sprays or shampoos because if they are not rinsed out thoroughly, they will catch more dust making them look dustier.

If still you have any intention to shampoo the rug, then first sweep the rug so that settled dirt gets slackens. Sweeping should be succeeded by vacuuming so that dust is cleared thoroughly. This will make the rug look cleaner and might hold up your plans of shampooing the rug.

You should also make sure that spills on the rug should be cleaned as soon as they occur. On the basis of category of stains or spills, they should be blotted or scraped. It can be blotted with help of dry clean towel by pressing from the outside towards the center. Redo this process by folding the towel till the maximum moisture has been soaked up. If the milk has been scattered, then the affected part should be properly rinsed with the mild soap and water so that the left over doesn’t rot. Incase of greasy spills and sugar based drinks spills, proper cleaning and washing is also needed with proper cleaners.

Yeah, yeah, I know what you’re thinking. It’s about time the Ed Boys came out by seasons. Why, you ask, did Cartoon Network release two single disc DVDs before this entire first season area? Who knows? Maybe it was one of Eddie’s scams. Those volumes, Gracious Ed-Ventures and Fool’s Par-Ed-Ise only had six shows each. But here, at last is the Ed-ertainment value of the year: all thirteen episodes (each consisting of two cartoons) from season one on two single discs (with four special features), and at a impress that leaves enough left for jawbreakers.

Click HereIf you did hold the two single disc volumes (like me) the cartoons, “Sir Ed-A-Lot” “Who, What, Where Ed” and “Avast Ye Eds”, from the first volume are also on the Season One plot. “Fool on the Ed” repeats from the second volume.
Season one includes these episodes:
1. “Pop Goes the Ed” and “Over Your Ed”
2. The Ed-Touchables” and “Nagged to Ed”
Buy,Download, Or Stream Ed, Edd ‘n’ Eddy – The Complete First Season! Click Here3. Sir Ed-A-Lot” and “A Pinch to Grow an Ed”

4. “Dawn of the Eds” and “Vert-Ed-Go”

5. “Read All About Ed” and “Fast Shot Ed”

6. “An Ed Too Many” and “Ed-n-Seek”

7. “Gape into My Eds” and “Note Yer Ed”

8. “Fool on the Ed” and “A Boy and His Ed”

9. It’s Way-Ed” and “Laugh Ed Laugh”

10. “A Glass of Warm Ed” and “Flea Bitten Ed”

11. “Who, What, Where, Ed!” and “Keeping Up with the Eds”

12. “Eds-Aggerate” and “Oath to an Ed”

13. “Button Yer Ed” and “Avast Ye Eds”

Oh boy. The 1st season on DVD. And for only 15 dollars? Man this is a catch!!! This is probably Cartoon Networks longest and funniest running program. It revolves around 3 adolesents who all have similar names growing up in their cul-de-sac. They go on wild and hysterical adventures trying to scam the other kids out of their money so that they can acquire their celebrated snack. Jawbreakers. Though they try not to, most of their scams fail and wind up causing more anguish for them. Others shows like The Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy or Camp Lazlo have tried to copy this present and they all have failed miserably. Ed’Edd’N'Eddy is truly classic. This present is the meaning of goofy, off-the-wall comedy. Each character has their gain uniquness about them. It comic witness how each kid deals with the Eds and their scams. Whether it’s Ed’s stupidity and amusing quotes, Edd’s Cleaniness, or Eddy’s over-the-top scams and competiveness each character has a hilairious personality trait that will conflict with other personality traits in the expose. Another strongpoint this explain has is it’s animation style which allows it to expose emotions, afflict, and facial features with ease. This is a exhibit for anybody who has a genuine sense of humor. It may say it’s for kids 7 & up, but this is a demonstrate for all ages. It stays good to it’s roots of comedy without ever feeling repetitive.(Unlike Family Guy) . And enjoy it or not the reveal only has 12 characters that are ever shown. But you won’t even peep due to the expansive plots and salubrious writing. Don’t be fooled by the 2 other DVDs: Fools Par-ed-dise and The Mis-Ed-ventures. These only have 6 episodes each from random seasons and cost more than this one. On this you earn about 26-28 Ed-tacular episodes from the 1st season. So if you haven’t figured it out by now………Seize IT On OCTOBER 1OTH…………………..

Way Past Cold is a first feature from director Adam Davidson based on the young-adult best seller by Jess Mowry. It’s about teen and preteen gang members in Oakland, but in tone and temperament it’s far from the usual homeboy melodrama. The violence is here all factual, but refracted through the eyes of boys who are peaceful young enough to imagine their ‘hood as a garden of unearthly delights. The mayhem and sorrow are doubly affecting because the kids, played mostly by nonactors, are quick losing a childhood they never really had. Davidson pays tribute to their dreams by imparting an almost tender lyricism. It’s a magical limited movie about a most unmagical subject.

“Way Past Frigid, Adam Davidsons debut film, is inventive and intimate, and it brings these qualities to material that most filmmakers and opinion-makers treat with all-too-familiar images and assumptions.Buy,Download, Or Stream Way Past Cool! Click HereIs this a movie about Dismal gang members (boys and men) in California? Yes and no. It is also about how we become who we are in those repugnant years between childhood and adolescence. What succor do we glean from parents and friends? When does loving them protect us and when does it endanger us? What happens when kids live in neighborhoods that threaten to violate them every day of their lives? When a gang of young boys exercise guns to protect their turf from older gang predators, that faded political ask of means versus ends arisesand in a country (not objective a ghetto) that has no understanding of how to separate violence from “entertainment” violence. No other movie Ive seen so captures this blurring in the minds and psyches of the young: that giddy omnipotence alongside the puzzlement about what death really means. We read about this in newspapers, we study it on television in the long-faced documentaries about the young and the breakdown of values. “Diagram Past Cold” is something else altogether. It makes us want to struggle with these crises and questions by looking and feeling more deeply. It turns life into art in ways that are truly surprising but that effect heart wrenching sense.”

I’m not up on the fresh floppies (I’m a Silver Age guy), so I don’t know if this timeline is canon or not. But it clear was fun seeing a peep of what happens to Tony Stark and David Banner in the future–and the action is creative and non-stop. I’ve enjoyed both previous Avengers movies; this one’s different, but attractive in its fill method. If you like Iron Man, check it out. Stark plays a mountainous role.

As a long time Marvel Comics fans, I’m almost a petite disquieted. After years of bad movies, Marvel has finally keep together a series of films (not including X-3–that sucked) that fabricate every Marvel droll fan blissful. Things have gone so well in the live action arena, people have forgotten about the high quality animation that Marvel is putting out. Iron Man was pitch perfect in the live action outing this summer. Before that however, it was a gigantic involving movie. The Liongates partnership with Marvel has produced gigantic stuff and the Next Avenger is no different. Crafting current characters for younger audience, this movie promises that the interesting film line can grow the Marvel audience in a device that movies and comics are not. The legend is big, a well known terrible guy, unusual kid profitable characters detestable on classic heroes, and huge visual style all work together to earn this a fable that will be easy for non laughable fans to luxuriate in. This is a crucial piece of the marketing machine that Marvel should not neglect. Where is the next generation of amusing readers coming from? If they are knowing they will build these characters into print, build a video game, establish together some easy to access digital comics (their new subscription service is not a immense model) and glean eyeballs on modern characters and ancient.

Based on a comic by Kiyohiko Azuma, Azumanga Daioh is the anime equivalent of a ’50s girls’ novel. Ten-year-old prodigy Chiyo and transfer student Osaka join the crowd at a Tokyo high school, adding to the comic misadventures. Their hard-drinking, potty-mouthed English teacher Yukari resents the popularity of the saner gym teacher Nyamo, even though they’re old friends and former classmates. Azumanga lacks any sort of sustained storyline or character development; it’s just a series of incidents and encounters involving the kids and the two teachers. The only recurring male character is the leering Mr. Kimura, who teaches because he likes to ogle the students. Adolescent girls may enjoy sharing the featherweight daily problems of Tomo, Yomi, Sakaki, Kaorin, Chihiro, Chiyo, and Osaka, but Azumanga Daioh isn’t really about anything.
