It amazes me how incredibly well this 1969 western has held up after all these years. At once classically structured and satirically executed, director George Roy Hill and screenwriter William Goldman have pulled together a supremely involving period record that caters to contemporary sensibilities to this day. It is to their credit that the film remains correct to the characters and never gets too large during its fleet paced 110-minute running time. The chronicle naturally revolves around the legendary outlaws who robbed banks at the turn of the last century. Their escapades are divided roughly into three sections in the film. The first is the introductory set-up where their opposite yet complementary personalities are established. Leading the motley Hole in the Wall Gang, they ultimately pull off a narrate robbery with an excess of dynamite. The second fragment is an extended crawl sequence where Butch and Sundance are chased relentlessly by a group of unknown bounty hunters.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid! Click HereThe third and final share details their sprint to Bolivia where they are obvious to go straight but obtain caught up with local bandits and earn their unsuitable past catching up with them. It seems inconceivable to have anyone other than Paul Newman and Robert Redford in the title roles. As the more established star at the time, Newman is characteristically laconic as Butch. His innate likeability is enhanced by his rascally manner and crack comedy timing. In the more stale gunslinger role, Redford provides the ideal partner with his flinty manner and unavoidable charisma. In between them is Katharine Ross, novel from “The Graduate”, who plays Etta with sensual élan, though she does not figure in the most well-known scenes. Of course, Burt Bacharach’s instantly recognizable musical gather is here, and while there is an anachronistic feel to such 1960’s-sounding pop music over a western, it somehow works because the attitude of the film seems so original. Even the comically romantic bicycle sequence manages to hold its buoyancy thanks to the inane but undeniably catchy “Raindrops Hold Fallin’ on My Head”.

Conrad Hall’s vibrant, burnished cinematography deserves special mention as it has been preserved well in the 2006 Ultimate Collector’s Edition DVD package. The rest of the two-disc package is robust though bordering on overkill, adding on to the features that were already included in the previous 2000 Special Edition DVD. Retained from that edition is the involving combination of perspectives provided by Hill, Hall, lyricist Hal David and associate producer Bob Crawford in their joint commentary track. Current is separate and equally insightful commentary from Goldman. Another holdover from the previous edition is the forty-minute vintage documentary, “The Making of Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid”, a calm terrific featurette from 1970 with participation from Newman, Goldman, Hill and Redford.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid! Click HereThere are three current documentaries – a 2005 retrospective seek at the film called “All of What Follows is True: The Making of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”; a fact-check featurette called “The Wild Bunch: The Accurate Fable of Butch & Sundance”; and the somewhat repetitive “History Through the Lens: Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid: Outlaws Out of Time”, a cumulative worry which combines elements of all the other documentaries into one ninety-minute feature. Lots of tremendous insight is provided on the 1994 interviews with Newman, Redford, Ross, Goldman and Bacharach. A deleted scene is also included with Hill’s commentary (since the audio had been lost) – it is a disposable transitional scene where Butch and Sundance are watching newsreel footage of themselves in a Bolivian theater while Etta quietly leaves to the shriek dwelling. Lastly, there are trailers for eight of Newman’s vintage films. This is definitely a robust package for one of the immense films of the 1960’s.

This disc ranks moral up there with one of the worst Blu-ray transfers I beget (along with the first Stargate release) . It is a shame, as this is a really spacious and fun movie. It is one of the first westerns I buy that really interspersed humor with drama in an effective contrivance. I understanding it tried to be a bit too worthy or to have something for everyone (the bicycle scene went on a tiny long for my taste, for example) . Audio is shapely but the failure to execute a really outstanding video transfer (as was done with Patton recently) will disappoint the many fans of this movie who were eagerly awaiting this release.

“The Cook” is another in the recent crop of horror-comedies that, like so many of its brethren, fails to live up to its hype. Even graded on the b-movie curve this story only rates a 2.5 (rounded up to 3 for ridiculous amounts of prurient behavior and some decent fan-boy humor.)

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Cook! Click Here

The story takes place in a sorority house (and thus begins our exploitation potential), where the girls who didn’t go “away” on spring break are planning on carousing their way through the long weekend. Please note, I’m not entirely sure if the decision to “carouse” without any (well nearly any) participation by the opposite sex was done for budgetary or “exploitive reasons, but the fact that the Sorority is “Lambda Epsilon Zeta” tends to make me think the latter.

As an added twist, our killer is the Sorority’s new cook. Who has just arrived from Hungary and speaks “very” little English. His motif is not hockey masks or a clawed glove, no this serial killer goes for cannibalism in a “culinary” sort of way and then feeding the “remains” of his kills to his future victims.

I really wanted to like this movie. I mean hey, it’s full of pretty young things. It doesn’t take itself too seriously. It has a geeky love story and a “fall from innocence” (sort of) subplot going on and the ads promise nudity and gore. What more could a low brow horror movie fan ask for?

Well, for starters he could ask for the actual delivery of some more of the nudity, but that’s actually a fairly minor point. By the very act of watching a movie like this, the viewer agrees to suspend disbelief, up to a point. I can tolerate (enjoy?) a cannibalistic serial killer who just happens to wind-up in a Sorority House full of improbably beautiful and hedonistic coeds. But I’d like a little internal consistency to my story. I have some real problems with a Sorority House where the acoustics allow for the inhabitants to hear raised voices one minute, but not the tortured screams of the killer’s victims the next minute (especially when the murder is supposed to be happening right down the hall.) Ditto, after about the second meal where the “perpetually dieting” thin coeds don’t complain, or even comment on the fact, that the cook is serving them all “heavy” meat based meals all the time, my suspension of disbelief begins to wear. But, where the movie really suffers (as so many of them do) is when the writer tries to fill in the time leading up to the killings with dialogue; and does so in an incredibly painfully incompetent manner. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not asking for Quentin Tarantino level dialogue. I’m asking for “don’t make me cringe” level dialogue.

All in all, the production values were good, the concept was entertaining (campy), the kills delivered large quantities of gore, and the actresses were easy on the eyes. If all you want is some fan-boy humor, rated PG-13/R eye candy, and your eighties style slasher movie fix, this might be the movie for you.

As a horror film this one sucked. As a drama, comedy, or action/adventure film this one sucked.

But I give it three stars for one reason and one reason only, and that’s the part where aggressive lesbian sorority girl Anastasia (Penny Drake) pursues pretty blonde freshman Kristen (Brooke Lenzi). Those two were hot together!

Kristen is afraid of Anastasia, but after the older girl kisses her passionately she allows herself to become Anastasia’s “property” for the night, with the dominant brunette they tying her up while she playfully spanks and kisses her beautiful body! I would really have enjoyed an entire film revolving around these two pretty women together!

Sadly, Anastasia decides to go downstairs to the kitchen for some chocolate sauce to lick off of Kristen’s gorgeous body, and when she does so she’s predictably killed by the cook, and the film gets completely uninteresting from that point on. (Not that it was particularly great beforehand, aside from the two aforementioned hotties!)

You might want to rent this one just to check them out! It was erotic!

What Makes Patio Heaters Different?

February 11th, 2010 by brielle6402107

There are a number of types of patio heaters available to residential buyers. The following explains the benefits and differences between the main types of patio heaters.

Electric Patio Heaters
These patio heaters hurry off of electricity and develop heat by using a quartz heating element to build infrared glowing heat. shapely heat actually heats objects and people and not the air around them. lovely heat, like the sun’s heat, for example, is a very efficient procedure to warm people. Not only are electric heaters efficient, they do not beget any emissions so they are fine to consume in enclosed spaces such as garages or enclosed patios. If you have itsy-bitsy overhead site, these heaters are also favorable because they require less overhead clearance than gas fueled heaters. I especially like these heaters because they are placed up and out of belief so you barely know they are even there.

Natural Gas Patio Heaters
These heaters are fueled by natural gas lines that may already be available outside your home or commercial property. This means that there is a constant source of fuel to your heaters and you will never be without warmth when you need it. These heaters are very streamlined and therefore engage up very dinky patio situation. Another mammoth thing about natural gas is that it is very affordable, so you won’t cringe every time you light your heater.

Propane Patio Heaters
There are many expansive designs available in propane patio heaters. There are beautifully crafted heaters that gawk like antique light posts. There are gas light propane heaters that are very decorative, have a built in light and are so fresh they don’t even gaze like heaters. There are heaters with stainless steel and copper finishes that will fit any décor. Propane patio heaters can be fueled by the same propane tanks ragged by many barbeques. Because propane patio heaters are self-contained and even arrive with wheels they are easy to disappear around to wherever they are needed. There are even really affordable table top versions that are colossal for camping trips and picnics. What Makes Patio Heaters Different?

I adore hummingbirds and eagerly await their 2-month visit to our backyard every year. I am unlit to notice them leave in the Drop. My husband gave me this video for my birthday, and it is so aesthetic! The footage is fantastic – you can actually count the feathers on the bird – and you contemplate a mother hummingbird’s nest, you view her lay the eggs, sit on it, feed the babies, and witness the babies leave the nest. You can actually glimpse the babies squirming around inside their eggs before hatching – absolutely astounding footage.

I watched this with my four year-old daughter who also loves to leer our hummies, and she was fascinated. Who knew that the hummies will hunt for outmoded spider webs to wrap around their nests for strength? We both learned so worthy! The splendor of nature comes alive.

I cannot notice most nature shows because I CANNOT stand to eye animals in injure, being eaten, etc. I was worried a hummie would die in this movie, but they do not – huge relief for me! It is unprejudiced a glowing part of art made by these filmmakers. God must have sent this diminutive hummie to their porch so they could portion this astounding fable. Thank you for it!!!

A leisurely Mother’s Day indicate for my wife turned out to be a explain for my entire family. We all could not enjoy how attached we became to the baby hummingbirds and their mother. A astonishing anecdote and truly extraordinary video. We learn something unique every time we eye it. Learning made lovable.

Being a homeschool mom I am always looking for the most interesting, hold your attention type ways of teaching history. I have watched several tapes on ancient history that were dry & rather dull. “Lost Civilizations” is anything but dull. My 9 yr. old loves it, and even my 6 yr. old will sit for 45 minutes at a time and watch it. It covers Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt & the Aegean on Vol.1. Greece, China & Rome on Vol.2. The Maya’s and The Inca’s on Vol. 3. Africa and Tibet on Vol.4. The scenery is breath-taking! We watch the tapes every year as a review. And if you can believe it, my kids put it in sometimes for fun. I highly recommend this set!

I teach high school ancient history and these DVD’s are pure gold – don’t pass them by! The DVD’s on Tibet, Egypt, Classical Greece, Minoans, Rome, the Inca, the Maya, & China are great. The DVD on Africa is a bunch of P.C.ism – it is the only bad one in the bunch. I only wish they would’ve done a DVD on India &/or the Aztec instead of the Africa DVD.

One of Broadway’s most lustrous songwriters, Cole Porter (1891-1964) worked hard to prove an unflappable image to the world–but in truth he was a tremendously complex man, a homosexual who lived with wife Linda Lee Thomas in a marriage of convenience, subject fits of depression, and suffering horrific injure in the wake of a horseback riding accident which left him crippled at the peak of his career. Add to this the fact that his lyrics were often censored for film, radio, and records and it seems very peculiar that 1940s Hollywood would attempt a biography. What they did, of course, was fictionalize it to the max, reducing the anecdote of his life to a mix of backstage musical and domestic drama–and transforming the diminutive and waspish Porter and his cool bride Linda into comely Cary Grant and splendid Alexis Smith. The result is pure nonsense, of course, but when you tack in a host of Porter classics–fantasy it might be, but it is fascinating enough to perceive.Grant is no singer, but he has grand charm, and Smith is as always extremely glowing. The supporting cast is remarkably strong, featuring the likes of Jane Wyman, Eve Arden, Dorothy Malone, and Alan Hale–and rare camouflage appearances by Monty Woolley and Mary Martin, who assert knockout performances of “Miss Otis Regrets” and “My Heart Belongs To Daddy” respectively. The DVD transfer is reasonable, and although the bonuses are pure fluff they are silly. While it may be short on fact with a anecdote petite more than pure melodrama, the music and performers develop NIGHT AND DAY a reasonably fine diagram to exhaust a rainy afternoon.Buy,Download, Or Stream Night and Day! Click HereGFT, Amazon Reviewer

“Night & Day” is a unbelievable musical, a fine film displaying Cary Grant’s talents, and it has that ‘never-to-be-realized-again’ Technicolor to its sets that offers that imaginary world so many films offered in the 50s, (although this particular film is from ‘46) .
Buy,Download, Or Stream Night and Day! Click Here If the viewer is looking for historical accuracy, it is best to see elsewhere. There is a loose framework of historical accuracy here, but only a skeleton. Porter actually did go to Yale, but only for undergrad. He actually went to Harvard for law school. As far as I know, he was never actually in World War I, although he was in Europe during the war. In addition, the esteem sage is completely and utterly fabricated, although it is “cute” and a nice sub-plot to the film.
The precise driving force of the film is definitely the sets, the music, and Grant himself. This is definitely an provocative fantasy, and I highly recommend it for film buffs, especially those that savor Cary Grant.
The current DVD is nicely achieve together, and it includes a series of Cole Porter trailers, a Dezi Arnez music number, a musical short, and even a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

I’ll freely admit that I, along with a few friends, went to see Pathology because we’d heard that Milo Ventimiglia was nekkid in a few scenes. I’m shallow, but not so shallow that I can’t admit that I’m shallow.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Pathology! Click Here

If not for the aforementioned shallowness, I don’t think this is the kind of movie I would usually see. So imagine my surprise when I actually liked it. Yes, it’s extremely gory and twisted, but there’s something fun in all that. The cast clearly had a blast with their roles, it’s easy to imagine outtakes with the actors playing around with some of the more disgusting props.

If you don’t take the movie too seriously, it’s actually quite enjoyable, and even at times rather thought-provoking. As we left the theater, a discussion was struck up about who we would kill if we could get away with it. All in jest, obviously. (A popular answer “Whatever genius was in charge of marketing this movie.” It’s only playing on about 45 screens in the entire country.)

Buy,Download, Or Stream Pathology! Click Here

Admittedly, this is one of those movies where you’re either going to love it or hate it, no middle ground. It all depends on what you’re into, really.

And on one final shallow note, if you’re a Milo Ventimiglia fan, let’s just say you won’t be disappointed.

Pathology follows the path of Peter Petrelli-I mean Dr. Ted Grey, a recent medical student who becomes involved in a homicidal game among his new peers at the penultimate pathology hospital in the country. Compounding this is his affair with one of his psychotic new coworkers while simultaneously juggling his relationship with his now long distance fiancee, as well as a budding drug addiction.

The acting in this movies is good, and by good I mean very disturbing. Grey starts off as a genuinely good guy, and is seduced by the prospect of proving he can solve the perfect murder. He initially soothes his conscionce by only killing “undesirables,” a term which quickly loosens as the movie proceeds. He is also surrounded by people who, were there such a group in the medical industry, would send many screaming from the hospital. The interactions between the members drives home the creepiness of the film(The memory of two students playing catch with a human brain stands out in particular), though a few are so pushed to the back they might as well not be present.

The movie lacks enough punch to be horror, and far, far too much to be a simple medical drama. It does manage to be very disturbing, though definitely not for its believability. The crimes are commited, and the police are rarely, if ever, involved. The characters have far too much with regards to luck and resources in committing the crimes, and theres not enough explanation of the vagaries of them.

I would give this 3, or possibly two stars, but it manages to be what it appears, a slasher that is both incredibly unsettling, and contains enough good acting to be able to survive to credits. The ending also is one of the best I’ve seen for a horror in a very long time

Based on the stage hit by Kaufman/Hart and adapted for the conceal by Julius and Philip Epstein (who also did some thing called “Casablanca”), “The Man Who Came to Dinner” may be one of the ten funniest pictures ever made. In a thinly disguised caricature of Alexander Woolcott, Monty Woolley is Sheridan Whiteside, an acerbic Recent York critic and lecturer who breaks a leg while in a little town and is forced to live temporarily with an uptight local couple (Grant Mitchell and Billie Burke) who aren’t at all gay about their unusual guest. Whiteside proceeds to capture over the house, recede in his secretary (Bette Davis), endlessly berate his nurse (Mary Wickes), re-direct the lives of the couple’s children, have all manner of visitors, and generally reek havoc.

Some knowledge of the literary and theatrical figures of the 30’s and 40’s helps in appreciating all the in-jokes, but even without that foreknowledge this is composed a hilarious film. Woolley was reprising his role from Broadway, and he so dominates the proceedings that Davis, at the height of her powers and popularity, is almost superfluous. Guest appearances by Ann Sheridan and Jimmy Durante (a veiled interpretation of Harpo Marx) liven up the stagey interpretation, and there’s an humdrum subplot about Davis and the local reporter, but for the most fraction it’s Woolley’s explain. Hart and Kaufman had both worked with the Marx Brothers, and it shows: The script is an endless string of stinging one-liners and retorts. For anyone who enjoys classic comedies, this is not to be missed.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Man Who Came to Dinner! Click HereThe film version of Kaufman and Hart’s hit Broadway comedy “The Man who Came to Dinner” is a first rate Warner Brother’s production of 1941. While Monty Woolley gets third billing to Bette Davis and Ann Sheridan, clearly for box office reasons, the film centres around his ferrocious performance based on Alexander Woollcott.

The tale is simple. An egocentric celebrity arrives in a runt town in Ohio, fractures his hip on the cool steps outside the house of one of the town’s emminent citizens, threatens to sue and moves in to recuperate. In doing so, he takes over the household with his entourage and the film follows the resultant mayhem. The film has an ensemble cast supporting Woolley and everyone has their moment. There are endless references to the “in crowd” of 1941 and the film requires numerous viewings to purchase up all the one liners because the jokes are mercurial and indignant. The direction is featureless and the film is static but it is the dialogue which counts so the slow direction doesn’t really matter.

Davis takes a supporting role as Woolley’s secretary and demonstrates her claim that she did NOT always have to consume centre stage if the script was valid. She is silly and sardonic and in her romantic scenes, nobody could be as relaxed and comfortable as she was on the conceal, almost convincing us that such a sophisticated woman could descend for a hick newspaper man, the elegant Richard Travis. Ann Sheridan is tart, sexy and devastatingly handsome as Lorraine Sheldon, said to be based on Gertrude Lawrence. She was filming “King’s Row” at the same time and always said she did not care about this film because King’s Row was considerable more distinguished. Nevertheless, she certainly enhanced her stardom with this hilarious performance. All the others are terrific – Mary Wickes as the bewildered nurse, Billy Burke as the scatty mother, Jimmy Durante as Harpo Marx and Reginald Gardiner as Noel Coward etc etc. Special mention of Grant Mitchell as the harried father of the household, a wonderful foyle for Woolley’s vitriol and with a memorable final moment in the film.

The print is obliging and the extras include the current trailer, with evidence of a scene slash from the film, a worthwhile short commentary and a terrific short containing Six Hits and a Miss harminising “You gotta know how to dance”, a song from the 1936 musical “Colleen” with the dance by Ruby Keeler and Paul Draper interpolated from that film.

It is extraordinary that this film is finally available on DVD, whether as fraction of the Davis Collection Volume 2 or on its contain.
